    Dinosaur Valley RV Park

    Loved it!

Every site is pull through with full hookups and has a fire ring & picnic table! Staff was very friendly and store had all the essentials. Clean restroom and shower (1 stall), pet friendly and beautiful pool/ hot tub. Right across the street from Dinosaur World (which our 2 year old loved) and outside the gates of Dinosaur Valley State Park. Will definitely be back.

    Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

    Dinosaur Valley RV Park

    Convenience

My husband and I stayed at Dinosaur Valley RV Park (DVRVP) on two separate occasions in last four weeks. We stayed 1 night during our first time at DVRVP and 2 nights during our second stay.

Here are our pros: 1.) DVRVP shares a property line with DVSP. Guests are able to purchase a day pass online through the DVSP website and access DVSP without ever having to drive through the front entrance. It was a simple 1 minute walk to access the park through DVRVP.

2.) You do not have to enter DVSP to enjoy the Paluxy River. Guests of DVRVP can access the river by following a small trail at one corner of the park by the entrance of DVSP. Our family spent a whole day in the river a minute walk from our camper.

3.) Dinosaur World is across the street.

4.) DVRVP is a family owned and operated business. The service was friendly! We wanted to add a. Additional day. We called and left a message. Moments later we received a return phone call. We were placed on a wait list. A few hours later we received another phone call let us know they were able to add an additional day to our visit.

5.) The sites are pull in and leveled for the most part. Both sites we stayed at were clean, free of trash and pet waste. The fire pits had been cleaned out. Connections are conveniently placed on driver side and we’re cleaned.

6.) DVRVP staff hosts several family friendly activities for guests throughout the day, everyday.

7.) DVRVP has a playground, swimming pool, hot tub, fire pit and plenty of green space for kids to roam and explore.

    8.) Pet Friendly!

9.) No RV age restrictions! We saw old to new class A’s to C’s and towable’s.

    Here are our cons:

1.) 2 pet limit per site. We would love to bring all three of our dogs. One is tiny and is an incident dog.

    Meridian State Park Campground

    Meridian State Park

Wish they would change the name to Meridian State Park instead of just Meridian on here.  Very nice, small, peaceful park.  There are 8 pull thru sites with full hookups, including 50 amp.  We were in on site 6.  Fairly level, but not much room to put a rug out.  They had 5 big rocks out to keep people from parking to close to the site.  Very close to the bathroom and shower room.  Very clean.  Right next to Park Office.  Lake was only 5 minute walk or minute drive.  Excellent swimming area  with picnic tables and grills.  Did not get a chance to fish there but heard it is very good.  Very quiet park.

Tres Rios RV River Resort and Campground

Quiet spot with access to three rivers

Good place for full time campers or people with kids. Has decent playground for the kids and a pool. They are family friendly. Staff is friendly. Easy access to rivers. Nice walking area. Camping itself is right next to other campers, no trees and only some spots back up to the river.

    Midway Pines RV Park

    Last Minute Stop

We needed a last minute place to stay, and the lady who answered the phone was super nice. She gave us a fantastic pull-through spot with full hookups (30 and 50 amp) for a price that was the best we have ever seen. The trees 🌲 really do make this environment feel mountainous. It was a nice surprise for Texas. The campgrounds are really pleasant and the park has fantastic access to the highway.

Guide to Bluff Dale

RV sites near Bluff Dale, Texas offer camping options in the heart of Erath County at an elevation of approximately 1,400 feet. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 95°F and mild winters, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons. Flash flooding can affect low-lying campgrounds during heavy rain events, particularly near the Paluxy River which runs through parts of the region.

What to do

River activities: The Paluxy River offers accessible water recreation at several campgrounds. At Gypsy Moon Hideaway RV Park, "River access is very convenient. Can tube or boat right in," notes LaRee S. The park provides dispersed camping spots that are "accessible by 2WD, but take it slow."

Dinosaur attractions: The area is known for its prehistoric sites within short driving distance. "Dinosaur World is literally across the street (easily walkable) and Dinosaur Valley State Park is an easy drive," says Tiffany H. about camping options near Bluff Dale. Fossil Rim Wildlife Center is also nearby, approximately 15 minutes away.

Walking trails: Several campgrounds provide access to maintained trails. At Oakdale RV Resort, campers appreciate the "Nice city walking trail nearby and the Paluxy River," according to John B. The park's location puts campers "across from Big Rocks in the river and near the square" in Glen Rose.

What campers like

Family-friendly amenities: Many RV parks offer recreational facilities for children. Coffee Creek RV Resort & Cabins "Had an awesome playground, little dog park, laundry, showers, pool, etc. Very cute park," reports Katie B. Similarly, Mark C. notes that another campground has "Two swimming pools and hot tub. River and state park access... Weekend activities like movie night, s'mores, hay rides, and petting zoo."

Equestrian facilities: The region caters to travelers with horses. LaRee S. describes Lost Creek RV Park as "Super clean and really well manicured" while another reviewer called it "Beautiful rv park." For those traveling with horses, one reviewer notes a nearby property is an "Equine paradise. Lovely park. Beautiful location and property surrounded by oak trees with an abundance of horses, cattle, a few donkeys and one goat."

Wildlife viewing: Several campgrounds feature on-site animals and natural areas. At Gypsy Moon Hideaway, visitors "loved all the ducks, goats and wildlife," according to Rosita A. Another camper noted, "They advertise 'farm fresh eggs' at the bait shop, and though we didn't partake, we know they were serious because of the chickens that were roaming the grounds."

What you should know

Reservation requirements: While some parks accept last-minute bookings, availability varies seasonally. James S. noted at Coffee Creek RV Resort, "Made a reservation 2 hours before arrival and girl on the phone didn't require a deposit since I was driving." However, for popular campgrounds near state parks, advance planning is recommended.

Seasonal challenges: Spring visits may encounter specific natural conditions. LaRee S. warns about Gypsy Moon Hideaway: "Beware of tons of caterpillars in the springtime." Summer heat can be intense in this region, with daytime temperatures often reaching high 90s°F.

Long-term residents: Some RV parks near Bluff Dale serve as semi-permanent housing. Green Deer RV Park is described as "a down home friendly place within minutes of anything you need in Stephenville, Texas." Another reviewer notes of a different park, "Lots of longterm people working in the area, but still lots of open spots."

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Swimming facilities are available at several campgrounds but may have specific rules. Heather F. notes at Oakdale RV Resort, "Our kids had a great time in the expansive pool and enjoyed the snow cone stand across the street." Some pools have lifeguards while others are unsupervised.

Playground facilities: Multiple campgrounds feature play equipment for children. At Dinosaur Valley RV Park, Cat R. found "playgrounds, a 'real' fort, teepee, basketball court, hiking trails, and a huge family pool." Another camper mentioned the "pet friendly and beautiful pool/hot tub" that complemented the family amenities.

Water recreation: The Paluxy River offers kid-friendly water activities during warmer months. Tiffany H. recommends: "EASY access to the river (path was directly across from 411) and it was great for hanging out in the water. Shallow with shelves to sit on. Suggest water shoes for traction but our kids had a great time. Gentle flow - enough to be clean and refreshing but not too rough."

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Level sites with adequate space are available at multiple parks. Bill B. describes Green Deer RV Park as having "two full bathrooms complete with showers, work out room, washer and dryers and an area for meetings. An outside area under a huge pecan tree with small tables and chairs for hanging out with friends."

Pet accommodations: Many campgrounds welcome pets but have varying facilities. Bill B. notes Green Deer RV Park has "Two huge dog areas with lots of grass." However, Kimberly cautions about another park: "Even though they are ok with you bringing a pet, there is really no place for them to go."

Connectivity: Internet access varies by location. Pamela B. noted at Lost Creek RV Park, "Good WiFi! Highly recommend." Cell service quality differs between carriers throughout the area, with higher elevation sites typically offering better coverage.
