Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Taylors, SC

Paris Mountain State Park Campground and Table Rock State Park Campground welcome pets throughout their established camping areas. Both parks maintain pet-friendly policies across tent sites, RV spots, and cabin accommodations. Travelers Rest-North Greenville KOA offers additional pet amenities including a spacious dog park where dogs can exercise off-leash. Most campgrounds in the Taylors area require pets to be leashed when outside designated exercise areas, with leash requirements typically ranging from 6-10 feet. Campground bathhouses are consistently clean and well-maintained, though pets are not permitted inside these facilities. The bubbling creek next to sites at Travelers Rest KOA provides a pleasant natural feature that many dogs enjoy exploring during their stay.

The Swamp Rabbit Trail provides excellent dog walking opportunities near several Taylors-area campgrounds. Four Paws Kingdom Campground, located within driving distance, offers multiple large dog parks, a pond for swimming, and sites with private fenced yards specifically designed for camping with dogs. Campers report the gravel at some sites can be uncomfortable for dogs' paws, making designated dog areas particularly valuable. Most campgrounds provide fire pits and picnic tables at each site, allowing pet owners to enjoy outdoor meals with their dogs nearby. During summer months, early morning walks are recommended as afternoon temperatures can become uncomfortable for pets. Wildlife encounters are possible in the more remote campgrounds, so keeping dogs leashed on trails helps protect both pets and local fauna.

Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

    Awesome for dogs and people!

We camped here back in August and had a blast! We brought our two dogs and they also had a great time. This site is very dog friendly (obviously), with many sites having their own fenced in yards. We opted for a site without a fence, which we regretted once we got there. The gravel at our site was painful for our dog’s feet and they had a hard time walking on it. The dog parks made up for this! There are multiple large dog parks located at the campground. The restrooms were awesome, but are single person use only. We felt like we were the only ones using them (that’s how well maintained they were). Campsites are close together but we didn’t mind. The staff was great, they helped us find our site and even helped us back our camper in. There was power and water hookup at each site. There is tons of stuff to do around the area too. Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are right around the corner and SO FUN.

    Bent River Equestrian

Great camping near mountain biking and hiking

Great place to spend a couple of nights. Went over Labor Day weekend with 5 or 6 other groups and still felt like we had full privacy. Fire pits, an outdoor shower, and a porta-potty. Cute horses and barn cats to pet and watch

    Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground

Not quite great for a senior

Great and clean unless you have a very active dog and you're sorta out of shape. Their dog park extremely small and hilly and has holes you need to watch. The yellow jackets were terrible and I got stung while just sitting at our site. Also a hike to take garbage to their dumpster. Some sort of pickup or maybe bear proof cans half way point, also more flat area for dog walks. If they would take in some of the area around the horse shoe area that would help too .

    Travelers Rest-North Greenville KOA

    Ranger Review: Travelers Rest KOA

Very pretty campground in the fall. Operators live onsite and were friendly. Full connections and no issues leveling. Easy in/out and close to Greenville, Paris Mountain, Travelers Rest, Swamp Rabbit Trail etc. Bathhouses were very clean, but the lights are on motion detectors which weren’t sensitive enough to pick you up in the shower. We both had a couple moments of total darkness to contend with. A camp cat hung around our site at times and loved the heat coming out of our furnace. We don’t have pets so didn’t mind. Cell coverage was great (att & Verizon), so we had no issues working our 9-5s. Love the bubbling creek next to our site, which was so pretty from our back window. We’d definitely stay again.

Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

Amazing Campground for Pups and Adults

We visited this park a few weeks ago and wished we could have stayed longer! It's a well-kept, clean park within approximately half an hour from Lake Lure (where Dirty Dancing was filmed). It is an adult only campground that is dog-centric... For us the best of both worlds! Includes several dog parks for large and small breads, and a pond in which the pups can swim and splash around. We've never been to a park like this one and highly recommend it if you can get in. We'll be back for sure!

Four Paws Kingdom Campground & Dog Retreat

    Glamping with your pups

This place was a 13 hour drive and so worth it. All of the cabins and trailers available to rent are so reasonably priced and have AC and fully fucntioning appliances. Every cabin or RV rental has its own private gated yard with your own firepit. Several dog parks and a private pond for the pups means days of fun for an active, social dog. Everyone is so kind, the women who run this place are so sweet and they were incredibly accomodating. The camp store has tons of treats and necessities for dogs and people, and a dog washing station and laundry are available communally. We spent our days hiking the nearby Chimney Rock and hanging around Lake Lure (FYI Dirty Dancing was filmed here whoa). We also checked out the Equestrian center which was an awesome recommendation of the staff and also dog friendly. Definitely recommended for people who like day hikes and adventures and coming back to a cozy camp cabin.

    GSP RV PARK

    Nice park, nice people

This is a well-maintained park with very friendly staff and guests. Spacious dog park, fresh gravel in the spots, fire pit area with string lights. We had a change of plans the morning of checkout, and they let us check out a little late since the park wasn’t fully booked, which was so helpful and kind of them. The park is centrally located near downtown Greer (very cute with lots of shops and restaurants) and a short drive from Greenville and Travelers Rest. We will definitely be back while passing through this area next time!

Guide to Taylors

Campgrounds near Taylors, South Carolina offer diverse terrain from mountainous settings to lakeside retreats within a 30-minute drive. Most sites in this region sit at elevations between 800-1200 feet, creating moderate temperature variations between day and night even during summer months. The proximity to both the Blue Ridge Mountains and urban centers provides a mix of secluded natural camping and convenient access to services.

What to do

Hiking trail access: Jones Gap State Park Campground offers primitive tent sites with hiking trails leading directly from campsites. "Jones Gap gives you the feeling of really being deep in the Appalachians. The rushing river and dense foliage with tons of mountain laurel makes the air seem so fresh," notes John R., who recommends "hiking upstream and playing in the river."

Mountain biking excursions: Davidson River Campground provides direct access to mountain biking trails. Travis S. states, "Located right inside Pisgah National forest this campground is perfectly set for all adventures. If you're looking to ride the mtb trails you're in luck. They start literally across the davidson river from the campground."

Water recreation opportunities: Both fishing and swimming are available at multiple locations. According to Tye G. at Paris Mountain State Park, "Great hiking trails and easy access campsites. Mountain lake was a little small for kayaking, but we had fun." Most waterfront sites require advance reservations, especially during summer months.

What campers like

Forest immersion: Campers appreciate Jones Gap State Park for its natural seclusion. Emily S. shares, "Each spot is about a quart mile from the next, so you feel like you have the mountain to yourself. Awesome place!" Sites require a short hike in but provide more privacy than standard campgrounds.

Family-friendly amenities: Multiple campgrounds offer dedicated recreation areas. At Orchard Lake Campground, "They have swimming, a little zip line. My then 7 year old played on it all day they even have a game room," according to Renee R. The campground also features a swimming lake with slides and boat rentals.

Clean facilities: Travelers Rest-North Greenville KOA receives consistent praise for maintenance. Tim P. notes the campground offers "Level gravel sites with concrete patios. Some with yard swings. Very clean. Clean bathhouses. Cute camp store. Free library. Pool and other rec. Propane refills and wood$ delivery to site."

What you should know

Site levelness challenges: Multiple campgrounds in the area have uneven terrain. Cindy R. explains about Paris Mountain State Park Campground: "Nice large sites but very unlevel due to mountain side. Would not stay again because we were so unlevel our refrigerator wouldn't work."

Road access limitations: Some campgrounds have restricted access roads. Bounding Around notes at Paris Mountain, "The road through the park back to the campground is pretty narrow at some points - we don't know how we would have managed if we had met another RV!"

Weather preparedness: Summer temperatures in the region regularly exceed 85°F during peak daytime hours, cooling significantly overnight. For fall visits, CJ C. recommends Table Rock State Park: "I stayed here over New Year's and did a ranger-led First Day Hike."

Tips for camping with families

Cabin alternatives: For families wanting pet-friendly alternatives to tent camping, Pine Ridge Campground offers climate-controlled options. Jyll G. reports, "After car camping for a few days, my son and I came here to a surprisingly comfortable cozy and AIR CONDITIONED (!) cabin for 3 nights."

Activity planning: Schedule morning activities during summer months when temperatures are cooler. Myron C. notes at Travelers Rest KOA, "What is really unique about this KOA is that there is a nature trail through the woods. That is something I don't recall seeing at any other KOA."

Safety considerations: Campgrounds with water features require extra supervision. At Orchard Lake, Michelle S. shares, "This campground is wonderful! We found it out of an emergency stop and stayed for 5 nights. It is beautiful and has so much for the kids to do."

Tips from RVers

Road navigation: Access to several pet-friendly camping areas near Taylors requires careful driving. According to Matt R. at Paris Mountain, "This is a beautiful park, with lots to do, and in close proximity to the endless supply of activities that can be found in the Greenville area."

Site selection strategy: Croft State Park Campground offers two separate camping areas with different advantages. Creighton C. explains, "We camped here for a few days and loved this park. Plenty of hiking and fishing. We did not have to leave the park for anything. They have two different campgrounds and this park is geared towards horse back riding."

Connection availability: For RVers needing to work remotely, C O. notes about Travelers Rest KOA, "Cell coverage was great (att & Verizon), so we had no issues working our 9-5s. Love the bubbling creek next to our site, which was so pretty from our back window."
