Little Pee Dee State Park Campground

A quiet and clean state park

Little Pee Dee State Park is a quiet and clean campground on the banks of Lake Norton. Locals often come here for fishing and non-motorized boating.  We were fortunate to witness a mass crayfish event--the recent flooding had brought them out of the swamp and up the spillway, much to the delight of seafood lovers.

The campground had two different campground hosts, and they kept the restrooms and campsites immaculately clean.

Campsites have a fire ring/grate and a picnic table, but no trash cans, and you'll need to bring your trash to a large bin located at the edge of the campsites.

There are some nice sites right at the edge of Lake Norton, but the abundant water plants don't allow you to fish from the side of the lake, and it's not really a swimming lake. These sites accommodate RVs and have water & electric.  If you're on a budget, there are tent-only sites off the water.

The campground recently built a sleeping cabin, which is a cute structure with air conditioning/heat, bunk beds, and a free-standing bed (the cabin sleeps four, total). Guests can use a fire ring and Adirondack chairs, hammock, and grill.

The park also has a nice shelter for use.

There is no WiFi here, and cellular internet is spotty. There isn't a camp store, but the Ranger Station does have ice, firewood, and a small number of souvenirs for sale.

    Carolina Beach State Park Campground

    Love Carolina Beach State Park!

Our family has tent camped here twice and recently reserved a camp cabin for a week this summer. This is a quiet and spacious campground mere miles from Carolina Beach at a price that's hard to beat. We tent camp here around $30 a night for a tent site. Each site is very large and spacious. It could could comfortably fit 2 tents and a car.

This Campground offers bathhouses, picnic tables, and fire rings. Dogs allowed, but not in the cabins. Plenty of walking trails.

Campground is flat and shaded, although there are some primative group sites away from the main campground but they don't have as much shade. Grocery store is maybe 6 miles away.

    Pirateland Family Camping Resort

    Perfect ocean front spot

Very nice park! We had ocean front spot site 695. Spot was sandy and looked a little sketchy to back into, looks as if someone got stuck. We ended up backing up just fine with no problems and pulled out just fine as well. Bathrooms were close and very clean, great water pressure. They pick your trash right at your spot every morning. Had a minor electrical problem, called and they were right there vey quick and fixed the issue. Lots of things to do, Pool, lazy river, splash pad, and kayak/peddle boats. Putt putt cost money but it’s available. Gulf cart rentals as well. The ocean beach is so beautiful and it was not busy. Just a perfect spot. I recommend going to Broadway on the beach for things to do in the area.

We did how ever have family fly in and rented a cabin. Sharon from the office was not so friendly she only deals with cabin rentals so if your here to camp in campground it’s a great place!

    Myrtle Beach KOA

    Rustic Cabin Check in delay

We just visited the Myrtle Beach KOA and stayed in one of their rustic camping cabins. First the good — The staff we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. The campground was generally clean and there was a reasonable amount of space between the sites. Now the bad — we arrived at 4:30pm to check in and found that the camp store closed at 4:00pm - everyday. For those who forgot something or needed to pick up some ice or other necessity, you would have to leave the campground to get it. Second; upon arrival (4:30) we were told that none of the rustic cabins were ready and to come back in an hour. Not a great way to be welcomed. Next, the shower/bath house appeared clean but there was a distinct smell that made it feel like it might not have been that clean. Finally, the KOA is right downtown, so there is a good deal of noise from outside the campground. Lots of sirens, fireworks, and engine noise from US 17(Business). Final analysis: We really don’t like Myrtle Beach (too much of a tourist trap) and we probably wouldn’t come back. We were only there because I had some work to do in the area and needed a less expensive place to stay.

CarrollWoods RV Park at Grapefull Sisters Vineyard

    Actually 4.8 Stars

Spent the week before Memorial Day and Memorial Weekend at Carrollwoods. This is really a nice campground. The sites are well-spaced with a picnic table, fire pit and grill at each site. There’s a pool that was unfortunately out of service during most of our visit there during the 90-degree heat. It was finally open when the weather cooled. There were not many other campers until the weekend and then there were only a few sites left. The grounds are very spacious. Lots of room to walk with a few short paths that go into the woods. It has one of the best dog parks that I have ever been to. It is very spacious, fully shaded by lots of trees and even has a few man-made hills for the pooches to climb. The only downside was it appeared as if the waste bin hadn’t been empty in several days. I visited the winery and the two women who own it are helpful and lively. If you visit, you must get one of their wine floats. My only negatives were they advertise free WiFi and cable. I wish businesses would not promote poor quality products as “free”. I probably could access their WiFi no more than for 3 times in all the time I was there and would last no more than 10 minutes. The cable had several odd channels and there was so much buffering, it was often unwatchable. My only other issue is that they need to do some cleanup in their gardens. There were several planters with dead plants in them from the year before. Either refill them or get rid of them. The beds are well designed, but needed a good weeding. Even with its flaws, this is definitely a campground I would return to.

    Huntington Beach State Park Campground

Nice large sites close to the beach

Don’t confuse this campground with Hunting Island (many people do). Although expensive, the sites here are very generous in size. Sites on the outside of the loop have more privacy (sites 1-33 have trees behind them for even more privacy).

The restrooms and showers are clean.

There are multiple access points to a very walkable or runnable beach. No bike rentals on-site but there is a local bike shop that will deliver to your site. Tours of Atalaya available plus other programs (although we didn’t take advantage of these). There is a large store with many souvenirs along with general necessities. If you order three or more bundles of firewood, they will deliver to your site.

It would have been nice to have a utility sink to wash dishes in as there are in other state parks. Also, like all other South Carolina state parks, alcohol is prohibited.

Although I usually take many photos at our campgrounds, for some reason, I didn't here!

    Brunswick Beaches RV Resort

5 miles from Kindred Spirit Mailbox

I came to this campground because of its location about 5 miles from Kindred Spirit Mailbox on Bird Island.

The campground was quiet. All the guests were quiet, but friendly.

Water and electric hook-up, laundry on site, showers and toilets behind the camp store office. Great cement picnic tables/benches!

Not close enough to beach unless you have a car or bikes. Parking lot near beach is $10. Pool clean; ice and firewood on premises for sale.

Dump station near entrance/exit. Road into camp is incredibly narrow. 2 vehicles can’t fit; one has to pull over to the side to let another pass by.

This campground used to be a KOA but now it is a Good Sam camp. The road is still named KOA. Address is 7200 KOA Drive, Sunset Beach, NC 28468 (910)579-7562.

Guide to Little River

Cabin rentals near Little River, South Carolina provide access to both oceanfront and inland accommodations within 15-20 minutes of coastal attractions. Summer temperatures average 85-95°F with high humidity, while winter nights can drop to 30-40°F. Many cabin locations offer seasonal activities that vary from summer water sports to fall festivals between September-November.

What to do

Beach access through private clubs: Sun Outdoors Myrtle Beach offers a complimentary shuttle to their private beach club. "The resort also has a beach house directly on the beach with shuttle service," notes Deb P., who appreciated not needing to find public parking.

Water activities for all ages: Myrtle Beach Travel Park features multiple water recreation options within the resort. "There was plenty to do! Arcade, mini golf, lazy river, pool, splash pad, the beach with walking distance!" reports Jessie N., highlighting the variety of water activities available without leaving the campground.

Fishing opportunities year-round: Willow Tree RV Resort offers catch-and-release fishing in their private lake, providing a relaxing alternative to beach activities. "There is a large lake great for swimming and fishing!" notes Małgorzata R., who visited during spring.

What campers like

Shaded cabin sites: Mature pine trees provide natural cooling for cabins at many locations. "Beautiful campground. Professional staff and spacious campsites," shares Jason E. about Willow Tree RV Resort, where tree coverage helps moderate summer heat.

Concrete pads for cleanliness: Barefoot RV Resort features concrete pads at their cabin sites to minimize tracking sand. "The sites are spacious and concrete pad for trailer, tow vehicle and picnic tables. Fire pits are nice," says Dee A., highlighting the practical benefit for cabin guests.

Individual bathroom facilities: Several resorts offer private bathrooms rather than communal facilities. "Bath house was 8 individual doors to full individual bathrooms of toilet sink and shower which were kept very clean," explains Ramona K., making these accommodations more appealing for families seeking privacy.

What you should know

Off-season differences in services: Facilities and amenities change significantly outside summer months. "Since it was off season the camp store and shuttle service was not open," notes Becky V., who visited Apache Family Campground in October.

Noise considerations: Golf cart traffic creates a distinct atmosphere at some resorts. "They squish the rvs and trailers in like sardines. There is enough room for your camper but your neighbors are right next to you," explains Samantha O., who also noted that "Noise times are 7am-11pm. The good thing about this is at 11pm everything is quiet."

Security features: Many cabin rental properties have controlled access. "It is a gated campground," mentions Dee A., noting the added security that appeals to families and travelers with valuable equipment.

Tips for camping with families

Kids' entertainment options: Pirateland Family Camping Resort offers multiple activities specifically designed for children. "This place is awesome especially if you have kids. Bath houses are nice and clean, splash pool is top notch, putt putt, food, and the beach here is really nice," shares Landon T.

Activity scheduling: Plan for structured entertainment during peak seasons. "The campground did an excellent job adding activities for kids and adults," writes Thomas C., who visited during Memorial Day weekend and booked for the following year before leaving.

Seasonal events for children: Halloween celebrations are particularly popular at cabin resorts. "They had an arts a crafts event we did not attend because the kids wanted to swim. But trick or treating was awesome for the kids, adults, and puppies," explains Tucker M., who also enjoyed "the Halloween bash... and the haunted hay right through the forest."

Tips from RVers

Cabin rental accessibility: CarrollWoods RV Park at Grapefull Sisters Vineyard offers cabin options that provide RV amenities without requiring your own vehicle. "Large spacious and clean well organized sites. Picnic tables and BBQ grills on sites. Pull thoughts. Winery with taste testing hours and wine to purchase," explains Robert M.

Distance to attractions: Consider cabin locations based on preferred activities. "Short drive to the beach. Will be back!!" shares Sean N., who appreciated the balance between access and tranquility at Sun Outdoors Myrtle Beach.

Site selection for privacy: Request specific locations when booking cabin accommodations. "We decided to move to a different site that gave is some more room and not sandwiched in between other campers," reports Becky V., who found staff accommodating when requesting site changes to improve their experience.
