    Creekside Retreat at Triangle Lake

BEST RETREAT AT CREEKSIDE RETREAT AT TRIANGLE LAKE

It’s hard to capture just how breathtaking Creekside Retreat truly is. The creek itself runs clear and clean, winding through wooded banks lined with smooth stones and bathed in dappled sunlight that dances and sparkles on the water’s surface. We stayed in a glamping tent that far exceeded our expectations. It had everything we needed, with no detail overlooked. Falling asleep on a queen-sized memory foam bed to the soothing sound of running water and the scent of fresh pine was absolute heaven. Tom and Brooke have curated the campground with so much thought and care. You’ll find hammocks, lawn games, ice, firewood, vending machines, fishing and hunting licenses, and more. I also have to give a special shout-out to the compost toilets—seriously, they’re better than most indoor bathrooms. They don’t smell at all! On top of all that, there’s a beautiful pavilion with a gas grill and a large fireplace that everyone can use, rain or shine. It’s the perfect spot for family gatherings or relaxing with friends. We’ve camped many times, but in terms of natural beauty, thoughtful hospitality, and overall experience, this is hands-down the best campground we’ve ever stayed at.

    Whitcomb Creek County Park

Quiet even on a busy holiday weekend

Stayed in Yurt #2 in the Yurt village on Fathers Day weekend. There was also a fishing tournament this weekend, so the park was completely full. The Yurt Village stayed very quite. Most noise was the Trucks/Boat coming and leaving the boat ramp which is about 400yds away.

Yurt #2 & 3 are deluxe yurts. All this means is you get a larger deck and propane firepit. To use the firepit you need to bring your own propane, large 20lb style. The Yurts have solar lights inside and out, not sure how long they run, but they lasted us a weekend with conservative use. There is 2 pit style bathrooms in the yurt village. Bathrooms are located at the parking lot.

The yurt village is a ways from the RV/Tent sites. Not a quick or easy walk.

Parking at the yurt village is a little walk from #2 and #3. Best to bring a wagon or such to help transport. Its about 100yd walk each way.

There are 3 beds, one full side bottom with a twin bunk on top and one full size futon. There is a dining table and 4 chairs. There is no running water, bring your own water. I saw a fountain near the parking lot, but did not test it.

While it says no pets, one other yurt had two well behaved dogs. The park knew and didnt stop them, so make your own decision with your pets but dont ruin it for others please.

Weather was pretty good for us. No mosquitoes, though lots of nats but able to sit outside all day without being bothered too much.

    Rujada Campground

    Excellent Vintage Camp

I had a great experience here The campground was clean, the leave no trace policy is followed here. Quiet hours are 10pm - 6am, it was quiet even during the non-quit hours. Very private. There are running water spigots strategically placed throughout the camp, each water station has a waste water dump, and trash can. There are flush toilets with running, a sink and trash can. The garbage was picked up daily. Each site was a tent pad, fire pit and large table. Each site was very private, I couldn't see the other campers unless they were passing by our site. There is no internet, no electricity, and no showers, bring your own. The only negative was the mosquitos - easily resolved with a netted day tent or pop-up with mesh. Laying Creek sounds heavenly all throughout the camp, the trails are great to walk, and you will eventually wander to a swimming hole. Beautiful campground, with a great history going back to 1933. Highly recommend!

Mallard Creek Golf and RV Resort

    Camping for the golf lovers

Mallard Creek Golf and RV Resort is located about 3 miles from Waterloo (or 8 miles from Lebanon, Oregon and 11 miles from Sweet Home, Oregon). It is off the beat and design for those serious golfers. The RV resort is design for trailers of any size with 30 to 50 amps electric, also includes, water, sewage hook ups, cable, and a cement table. The Club House has showers, bathrooms, and laundry facility. The club house has a wonderful party space with TV, gas fireplace (no fires at sites), tables for games and social gatherings. Free WIFI, your cel phone and data plans work wonderful in this area. Dogs are allowed, but no pet area to run loose. Kids are welcome but not gear up for things to do unless they love to golf too.

Mallard Creek is gear up for the serious golfers so the summer has special packages for the RV site with golfing from Memorial day weekend to the end of September. For non-golfers the RV resort is available between October 1 to the Thursday before Memorial day.

    COE Dorena Reservoir Schwarz Campground

Quiet campground, but watch for Algae

One option when looking for a campground last minute during the summer close to Eugene, Oregon. This one is not usually very busy during peak season in my opinion.

This is a primitive campground so no hook ups for your rv. Bring the generator if your needing a power source during the day.

There are restrooms/ showers on site along with drinking water, a playground, and an rv dump station. Picnic tables and fire pits at each site. Trails are nearby along with a beach/ swimming area at Dorena Lake. Watch for signs of Algae or Swimmers Itch as it has been present the past few years at Dorena Lake.

Overall its a great last minute campground not far from town ( Cottage Grove- Eugene), but doesn't make my list of top 5 if I can make reservations a head of time.

    Silver Falls State Park Campground

So beautiful, clean, and staff is friendly!

This was one of my favorite established campgrounds I stayed at on my roadtrip through Oregon. The big trees are perfect shade and beautiful. The roads are perfect for biking and there’s a bike trail in the campground that leads you straight to the park. Bathrooms and showers are clean and well taken care of. There is an incredible trash and recycling center at the front of the camper ground. Campsites can be decently close to one another, so not secluded but that wasn’t an issue for me. Obviously with family’s there’s going to be noise early in the morning and late at night so just be aware of that. But I didn’t mind, and wish I could have stayed here one more night. Something I was also pleasantly surprised by was how the trees blocked excessive heat. There was a heat wave going on during the time I was there but I didn’t have a problem at all here. It was such a relief.

    Premier RV Resort at Eugene

Great park and perfect for access to Eugene, OR

I've stayed here a number of times and each time it's a pleasure. Nice big sites, super clean park and facilities and nice staff. I personally stay in all sorts of locations, but usually stop here for a couple of nights to take advantage of the great stores in Eugene to stock up before heading off for more primitive camping. This park is pet friendly with 2 reasonable dog yards and there doesn't seem to be a quantity or breed problem (I'm parked next to a rig with 2 pitbulls, a small mixed breed and 2 cats). Everyone I've encountered in here is super respectful. They also have a small inexpensive laundry. While walking around with my 4 dogs, I noticed they have Tepees for rent also. I always feel safe and comfortable when I stay here. The only downside is that it's right off I-5 so lots of freeway noise.

Belknap Hot Springs Lodge and Gardens

Lovely stay in a gorgeous setting

We loved our stay here. We started on site 2 but it has zero shade so they were able to give us site 8. Right on the river with the beautiful sights and sounds of that majestic McKenzie. We moved up to the upper campground to site 14 for the next couple days. Also shady with sight and sound of the river. They sites aren’t very big but have a table and fire pit. The tent sites across the river that you hike to are amazing!! I want to tent camp there!! So wooded and many have direct river access. They also have cabins to rent. The hot mineral pools were wonderful and the staff friendly. They have a small store with a few essentials but no real food available. Lovely place.

    Olallie Campground

Great small campground in the heart of the McKenzie

The campground has river front sites and an upper section by the road which is where we stayed. There’s a bit of road noise but mainly quiet in the evenings. Sites can fit up to 2 medium tents and 2 cars, and have a picnic bench and fire pit. There are 4 vault toilets and a well pump with drinking water, though we only used it for dishes and to douse the fire. Bring a bucket or wide mouthed container if you plan to fill up there as the pump is old school and the water comes out all over the place. There is garbage collection (not recycling). Some websites say there’s firewood at this campground but we didn’t see any and the host was not on site, so make sure to buy some from the markets on the 126 (nearest store is about 15 miles). There’s no cell phone reception at all in that whole area so this is truly a place to disconnect.

Guide to Marcola

Campgrounds near Marcola, Oregon are located in the verdant foothills of the Cascade Mountains, with elevations ranging from 600-1,200 feet. The area experiences moderate rainfall and mild temperatures from May through September, making it ideal for extended camping trips. Most sites in this region feature mixed conifer forests with Douglas fir, hemlock, and cedar providing natural shade.

What to Do

Hiking trails near Silver Falls State Park: The park offers more than 35 miles of hiking trails with varying difficulty levels. Visitors can access the famous waterfall trails directly from the campground. According to one camper, "Silver Falls is a magical place and everyone should experience it. You can just get lost in the beauty of it all."

Disc golf at Waterloo County Park: The 18-hole course weaves through wooded areas and open fields, providing challenges for all skill levels. The course is free to use and open year-round. One visitor noted, "Campground with something for everyone! Right on the river for swimming or fishing. If you drive up the road, you can float down the river to your campground!"

Fishing at Hult Pond: This man-made pond offers bass fishing opportunities in a serene setting. Bring a kayak or small non-motorized boat for best results. "The area is beautiful lots of privacy and the fishing was pretty decent caught three largemouth bass," reported one angler.

Swimming at Fall Creek: Several designated swimming areas feature clean, accessible shorelines. Water temperatures remain cool even in summer months. As one visitor to Big Pool Campground shared, "Being right on the water truly can't be beat! It's usually not one of the busier ones out this stretch of road, and is close enough to Fall Creek to reasonably run in for supplies."

What Campers Like

Privacy between sites at Premier RV Resort at Eugene: Sites are well-spaced with natural vegetation barriers. The resort maintains clean facilities throughout the property. According to a regular visitor, "Nice big sites, super clean park and facilities and nice staff. I personally stay in all sorts of locations, but usually stop here for a couple of nights to take advantage of the great stores in Eugene."

Recreational amenities at The Willamettans: The resort features tennis courts, pickleball courts, and private trails. A swimming area with clear water makes for refreshing summer dips. One camper mentioned, "They have one of the cleanest swimming areas around! While there are trails in the resort, the really good longer ones are on forest service land."

Year-round accessibility at Foster Lake RV Resort: Unlike seasonal sites, this resort remains open through winter months with full services. The lake provides scenic views regardless of season. "Beautiful. Perfect place for family. Great scenery. Very clean," noted one visitor.

Off-grid experience at Hult Pond: Campers appreciate the disconnected nature of this area for true wilderness immersion. "I would recommend if you're looking for somewhere to come and disconnect from the world. Just not over holidays or weekends," advised one camper.

What You Should Know

Seasonal closures affect availability: Many campgrounds in the Marcola area, including Whitcomb Creek County Park, operate only from May through September. A visitor noted, "The campground is only open in the summer and as of 2018 has some wonderful updates on Loop 'A' and Loop 'C' (new tables, and site pads, and fire rings)."

Cell service limitations: Many campgrounds in this region have limited or no cellular coverage. One camper at Hult Pond reported, "We lost cell service about an hour before we even got there, and didn't have any the whole time there."

Road noise at some locations: Sites near major roads may experience traffic noise throughout the day. At Premier RV Resort, one camper noted, "The only downside is that it's right off I-5 so lots of freeway noise."

Water safety concerns: Swift currents at certain river locations require caution, especially for families with children. A Waterloo County Park visitor warned, "Great little spot for a family get together and overnight stay. On the river good fishing... but be aware... current is swift.. swimmers seem to get in trouble every year here."

Tips for Camping with Families

Playground access at Waterloo County Park: The park features a dedicated children's play area adjacent to camping loops. Families can easily supervise children from nearby sites. "There's a park area with a playground for the kids to play. Spaces are large, and nicely spaced out," noted one parent.

Cabin options for convenience: Several resorts offer cabin rentals with electricity and beds for families seeking a middle ground between tenting and RVing. At Silver Falls State Park Campground, "The cabins are small but comfortable with heat, lights, and beds. Covered porch is nice to sit and listen to the rain."

Dog-friendly facilities: Many campgrounds welcome pets but have specific areas designated for them. Premier RV Resort "is pet friendly with 2 reasonable dog yards and there doesn't seem to be a quantity or breed problem."

Educational opportunities: Several campgrounds offer junior ranger programs or nature-focused activities during summer months. Silver Falls State Park has "amazing hikes, the main one being the one with 10 waterfalls - dogs aren't allowed on this one though and it takes about 3 hours to hike it, so heads up on that."

Tips from RVers

Site selection at Eugene Kamping World: Choose sites away from the center of the park for more privacy. Full hookup sites have better spacing than basic sites. One RVer advised, "We stayed here because we had an appointment in Eugene in the morning and wanted to be somewhere close the night before. Though this isn't the type of park we usually prefer to stay at, it does a good job at being a good, safe, basic RV park."

Dump station availability: Not all campgrounds offer on-site dump stations. Those that do may charge additional fees for non-guests. At Eugene Kamping World, "There's bulk propane on site at $3/gal, and a dump station (free for guests, $10 for non guests)."

Site leveling preparation: Some campgrounds in the region have uneven sites requiring leveling blocks. Premier RV Resort has "roads are paved, majority of sites are pull through, photos on Dyrt are accurate. We had a 30 amp site and all of the utilities were well maintained and arranged well."
