Brookings RV campgrounds sit along the southwestern Oregon coast where the Chetco River meets the Pacific Ocean. Most campgrounds in the area range from sea level to 500 feet elevation, with mild year-round temperatures averaging 40°F to 70°F. Morning fog frequently rolls in from May through September, often clearing by afternoon while creating humid conditions around coastal rv sites.
What to do
**Beach exploration: Walk directly from several beachfront sites to explore miles of shoreline. At Beachfront RV Park, campers appreciate the proximity: "Location location. Get a beach front site. You fall asleep to the sound of the waves. It's magical. Beach is great," notes Jennifer H.
**Fishing access: Set up near prime fishing spots along the Chetco River or harbor. Turtle Rock RV Resort offers convenient water access: "Beach access is right out of the back of the park. Hunter Creek looks like a great sheltered place to kayak," writes David M.
**Redwood hiking: Use Brookings as a base for exploring nearby ancient forests. Patrick J. shares about his experience: "The location allows beach access from the park. Just head towards the bridge and a trail will lead you there. Good place, there 3 nights."
What campers like
**Oceanfront camping: Fall asleep to wave sounds with direct beach access. "On the ocean. Whether it is being in the beach, watching the sunset, seeing boats come in, or building forts out of driftwood, this campground is just great," Julie mentions about Beachfront RV Park.
**River access: Several campgrounds offer easy paths to the Chetco River. Corrie L. from Turtle Rock RV Resort recalls: "I loved this place. So serene. We had a spot backed up to the river and enjoyed every sunset. The facilities were clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly."
**Beach tent sites: Find dedicated tent spots on the sand at Oceanside RV Park: "This is mostly an RV Park and cabin rentals but there are 4 tent spots right on the beach that are phenomenal. You feel like you have your own place on the beach," explains Alicia F.
What you should know
**Off-season availability: Winter camping options exist but with limited services. "We stayed here over the winter. The staff is great. They have a monthly rate in the winter months," notes Ashley K. about Turtle Rock Resort.
**Limited tent options: Most parks cater primarily to RVs with fewer tent sites. At Driftwood RV Park, Matt S. observed: "Basic campground, but right across from the beach. It was awesome listening to the waves crash at night."
**Variable shower facilities: Pay-per-use showers common at several parks. Laura M. details: "$0.50 to start showers, for 3 minutes. Then 90 seconds for each quarter after that."
**Foggy conditions: Expect frequent coastal fog, especially mornings. "Very foggy - however, when it does clear up; you get the most beautiful view of the ocean," shares Kenna G.
Tips for camping with families
**Beach activities: Pack kites and sand toys for children. "Kids enjoyed flying kites on the beach," mentions Matt S. from Driftwood RV Park.
**Protected swimming areas: Use calm river inlets rather than ocean beaches for safer swimming. At Indian Creek RV Park, Michael S. found: "A nice cafe and store as well as showers and spacious tent sites. Wifi and computer access as well as a printer for guest use."
**Recreation options: Look for campgrounds with game areas. "They have an awesome game area with volleyball nets, Bocce Ball and corn hole," notes Tosha N. about AtRivers Edge RV Resort.
**Wildlife watching: Keep an eye out for local animals around camp. "Love the 5 wild turkeys that greeted me as I opened the door in the morning," writes Jenni C. at Indian Creek.
Tips from RVers
**Site selection strategy: Reserve perimeter sites for more privacy. At Ramblin' Redwoods Campground, Gregory M. advises: "Bathrooms and showers are super clean and taken care of daily. They have a laundry room that's open 24 hours a day."
**Utility placements: Bring extra sewer hose for awkwardly placed connections. "The sewer connections are in some strange places, mostly in front of the RV by quite aways," notes Patrick J.
**Wind protection: Secure awnings and outdoor items, especially in oceanfront sites. "The only reason this got four stars instead of five is the incredible wind that comes off the ocean almost every day. Not unusual to have it 20 miles per hour gusting to 35 or 40," warns Robert R.
**Dump station locations: Plan ahead for waste disposal as not all rv campgrounds in Brookings provide dump stations. "Dump station just outside of town at the rest area," mentions new M.
