Surprise

Looks like a trailhead parking lot, but there is a dirt road back into the forest that leads to an unpublicized campground. Probably because it is no longer maintained by USFS and doesn’t have a vault toilet. But there are numbered sites with fire pits and picnic tables. All you need is a recreation pass. No other fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Polallie Trailhead located and how do I access it?

Polallie Trailhead is located along a forest road and serves as both a trailhead and access point to the hidden Polallie Campground. The trailhead has a parking lot that's visible from the main access road. To reach it, follow the marked forest service roads to the designated parking area. The trailhead is situated in a forested area and provides access to hiking trails in the surrounding wilderness. For specific directions, check with the local Forest Service office, as forest road conditions can vary seasonally.

What hiking trails connect to Polallie Trailhead?

Polallie Trailhead connects to wilderness hiking trails that extend into the surrounding forest. While specific trail names aren't detailed, the trailhead serves as an access point to the natural area's trail system. These paths likely offer opportunities to explore the forest ecosystem and possibly connect to larger regional trail networks. For detailed trail maps and current conditions, check with the local Forest Service office before your visit.

Is camping allowed at Polallie Trailhead?

Yes, camping is allowed at Polallie Trailhead, but in a specific area not immediately obvious from the parking lot. A dirt road leads back into the forest from the trailhead to an unpublicized campground that is no longer actively maintained by the US Forest Service. This hidden camping area features numbered sites with fire pits and picnic tables. While there are no vault toilets available, the sites are suitable for primitive camping. A recreation pass is required to stay overnight here.
