    West Branch State Park Campground

Well kept campground with access to beach and dock

Each campsite in on a leveled cement pad and comes with a fire ring a picnic table. There is plenty of room around your site and you don't feel crowded. Most sites offer nice tree coverage for shade. The restrooms and showers are very clean and well taken care of. There is also a laundry facility and sink outside each one for washing dishes and water fountains throughout the park. There is a nice beachfront for swimming and then a dock that be reached from outside the park. A beautiful lake for kayaking or boating. The store has most camping needs in it and once a week they host an ice cream social. Has a very nice playground and a sand volleyball court. There are some hiking trails, but nothing extensive.

    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Wooded Waterside Sites

Make reservations! (6 months in advance).  Waterside sites fill up quickly! Check in is very easy as you pass the camp store on your way in. All campsites have a fire ring and picnic table.  West Branch has private, spacious, shady sites. We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days. The park office loans games and sports equipment to campers. Washers and dryers are also at the shower house. There is an outside sink to wash up dishes. Bring your boat or kayak. There are many inlets to explore or fish. There is a small beach at the campground but a larger one on the other side of the lake. There is a boat launch at the campground.  There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend. There is a newer dog park near the intersection of Rock Spring  and Esworthy roads. There are many scenic hiking trails at West Branch. Bridal trails are located on Esworthy Rd. West Branch is our favorite campground and we make sure to visit every year.

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Kelleys Island State Park Campground

    Vacation island campground

To reach Kelley's Island, you have to take the only ferry. Our round trip roundtrip fare for 3 adults and a vehicle was a around $100. It's around 25 mins across to the island. The island has about 500 full time residents. The road that runs up the center of the island, Division Street, starts a little west of the ferry stop and ends at the State Park. There are some small shops, restaurants, miniature golf, ice cream and fudge shops. There are golf cart rentals and lots of bikers and walkers on the island. You could walk the

The state park was beautiful. Filled with boaters, families and RVers. The bathrooms were clean, the park sold firewood and ice. There was an ice cream shop across from the entrance. Our tent spot was level. Quiet hours started at 11 pm. Unfortunately, people ignored it. I kept hoping the camp host would walk around and say something. Someone's car alarm went off at 5 am and the dogs got up and our day started. I would recommend watching the sunrise from the park benches at the water's edge. It was beautiful.

There were places to put your kayaks in as well as a boat launch by the park. People were fishing off the jetting that protects the swimming area.

It will get chilly at night, the sites on the edge of the water were windier. And bring your bug spray. Beautiful island, fun brewery on the island, sites are crowded. I would easily head back.

    Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™- Akron/Canton

    Cabins could be better

The bunk beds have very thin rv style bunk bed mattresses. And the master bed mattress was a weak memory foam. Needs to invest in better mattresses.

    Kelleys Island State Park Campground

    Best weekend camping

We will definitely be going back! Campground is on the lake and is beautiful! So many things to do! The camp is clean, has a playground, and movie night. Bath house is a typical campground bath house. We had a tent site and it was huge! Sites come with fire pit and picnic table. Beach is within walking distance of campsite.

Guide to Rocky River

Cabin rentals near Rocky River provide year-round outdoor recreation and accommodation options within Ohio state parks and private campgrounds. Most cabin sites are located within a 30-40 mile radius, primarily in Medina, Lorain, and Portage counties. Water recreation opportunities feature prominently at many locations, with fishing, swimming, and boating available at cabin-equipped properties.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At American Wilderness Campground, fishing is available directly from the property. "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well," notes Jessica J. about the activities beyond just angling.

Water activities: Water recreation options include swimming in designated areas and boating. "We loved the beach and the fun we have had this is our favorite place to camp and we love this family local owned business because they love making people happy and it shows," shares Mallory N. about the beach area at American Wilderness.

Hiking trails: Findley State Park Campground offers extensive hiking options through forested terrain. "Findley state park is well maintained large park! We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths!" explains Kimberly C. The trails connect to a lake where canoes and kayaks are available for rent.

What campers like

Bathroom facilities: Clean restrooms and shower facilities rank high among camper priorities. At West Branch State Park Campground, Jacob B. notes that "nice people and very clean! The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days."

Swimming options: Many cabin locations feature swimming areas with various amenities. "The swimming pond has inflatables and boat rentals. There's good fishing, and typically lots of activities," explains James S. about Woodside Lake Park, highlighting the recreational options beyond basic swimming.

Waterfront locations: Lakeside cabin sites provide direct water access for many activities. Teresa B. comments on West Branch State Park, "Very clean bathrooms! Beautiful sites with lake views. Lots of nice sites." Many cabin locations offer waterfront or water-view sites for an additional fee.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Popular cabin locations book quickly, especially during summer months. Jeffrey L. observes about Findley State Park, "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

Cash payments: Some smaller cabin operations have limited payment options. At Timber Ridge Campgrounds, Sarah A. advises, "Hit up the ATM prior to arriving, as this park is cash/check only. It's gorgeous with super large sites. Plenty of space."

Water quality issues: Water quality varies significantly between properties. At Woodside Lake Park, visitors have reported issues with well water quality. "It's sad there are no decent RV parks in the Cleveland area, just old campgrounds that have added hook-ups and market themselves as RV parks and now charge like they are RV Resorts. Reserve a space at your own risk and definitely verify where and what water source you are on," cautions Jerry L.

Tips for camping with families

Recreational amenities: Family-oriented cabin sites typically include additional recreation options. At Kelleys Island State Park Campground, Daniel U. shares, "Been going here my entire life. Amazing small town feel with cute shops, family activities, world's largest glacier groves, shallow beach and fun history."

Cabin spacing: Consider site layout when booking with children. At Timber Ridge, "You're close to your neighbor but doesn't feel like it. Quiet but also great for families," notes Sarah A. about the spacious arrangement of cabin sites.

Transportation considerations: Island locations require additional planning. Rebecca F. explains about Kelleys Island State Park, "Camp was well kept, clean, and helpful staff. Our campsite was easy to find and backed in with no problems. The campground is at the far end of the island so you will have to travel a bit to get around to the different sites and restaurants."

Tips from RVers

Site conditions: For RVers bringing larger units, site grading and access are important considerations. At Penitentiary Glen Reservation Campsite, Jillian E. observes, "Would have given this site 5 stars but the walk to the site was a bit more of a haul than expected. It was just myself, kids, and pup. So it made setting up camp a bit more work."

Seasonal considerations: Many cabin locations near Rocky River have limited seasonal availability. "We stay here a couple of times per year and every time it's a blast," notes James S. about Woodside Lake Park, which operates from April 15 to October 31, typical of many cabin rentals in the region.

Access to supplies: Proximity to stores varies between properties. Duncan G. notes about Woodside Lake Park, "There is convenient access to Cuyahoga NP and shopping in Akron for major resupply needs."
