What to do
Fishing activities: East Harbor State Park Campground provides excellent access to Lake Erie fishing opportunities. "The camp store has all the necessities you may have forgotten. I enjoy walking to the pond at night and flashlight frogs. It is a great place for birding, fishing, boating and close to marblehead lighthouse and the ferries," notes Jaclyn B.
Island exploration: South Bass Island State Park Campground offers a base for exploring Put-in-Bay. According to camper Theresa P., "Overall good campsite on South Bass Island. It's close to Put in Bay - famous for its bar scene. If you're good at trekking, everything on the island is walking distance, but if you can bring it a bike would make for much quicker trips."
Water activities: Visitors at Kelleys Island State Park Campground enjoy multiple water recreation options. One camper notes, "The campground is at the far end of the island so you will have to travel a bit to get around to the different sites and restaurants. They have dumping stations that are easy to use and also running water at the station. The island is beautiful."
What campers like
Lake views: Many cabin campers appreciate waterfront locations. At Crystal Rock Campground, visitors enjoy "good restrooms, pretty location. somewhat remote, but there are a lot of trucks that go by through. definitely bring bugspray!"
Access to attractions: Proximity to Cedar Point amusement park ranks high for families. "We drove down from MI for a quick weekend getaway. Nice and friendly staff with plenty of things to do in the area. Bathrooms and showers were clean which is always a plus. Wifi reception was also good. Definitely a place to stay if you're fishing Lake Erie or visiting Cedar point," writes Derrick J. about Crystal Rock.
Cabin amenities: Milan Travel Park receives praise for its updated facilities. "This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking! We love camping here every chance we get! What you should know
Seasonal considerations: Most cabin facilities operate within specific date ranges. "The island has space to launch kayaks a boat dock. Plenty of hiking bring your bike to see the whole thing via peddle power. There is a brewery and winery," says Lauri J. about Kelleys Island State Park, which operates from April to October.
Noise levels: Several campgrounds experience noise from nearby roads or attractions. One camper at Milan Travel Park noted: "This campground is right off of interstate 80, and couldn't be easier to get to! As close as it is, there isn't much road noise (depending on the location of your site)."

Tips for camping with families
Playground access: When choosing a cabin location with children, consider on-site activities. At Cedarlane RV Resort, "My daughter had fun doing the gem mining and playing in the pool and splash pad. They have a small convenience store on site that's reasonably priced. They have an adults only pool as well for those looking for a break from all the kids."
Beach considerations: Beaches vary significantly across locations. At Cedarlane, a visitor reports, "We visited east harbor state park while there and the beach was weird, there's a rock wall bordering the lake so you have to either climb down the low wall or walk to the designated opening in the wall but once in the water it felt like walking on play doh and the water was pretty shallow definitely a great area for kids especially smaller kids."
Activities scheduling: Many campgrounds offer structured activities for children. At Crystal Rock, one family noted, "The owners and employees were so amazingly sweet and helpful. Tom went out of his way to make extra fun activities for the little kiddos. Our daughter really loved the sandbox, and the playground was great! We even did a little gem mining!"
Tips from RVers
Site selection: When booking cabin accommodations, consider proximity to facilities. East Harbor State Park receives this advice: "The key is site selection at East Harbor... we happened to be in section C which was a newer section of the park. Section C was nice, though in hot sunny days there is very little shade to protect you. The other sections of the park have tall shade trees that work out great."
Travel logistics: For island cabin camping, plan transport carefully. Regarding Kelleys Island, a camper advises, "You have to take a ferry to the camp ground. Kelleys Island Ferry in Marblehead. It is a few miles to camp ground so if you are renting and don't bring a vehicle you will want to rent a golf cart."
Utility considerations: While cabins provide shelter, utilities vary by location. One visitor at Milan Travel Park mentions, "Clean small campground lots of room to walk. No dog run but plenty of area to walk your dog."
