    Treetopia Campground

    Amazing camping/Glamping!

Treetopia is a unique and truly amazing camping/Glamping experience in the Catskills, New York! We were able to meet Betty, Treetopia’s manager, who toured us around the campground and took us into each type of rental they provide for that special camping trip. They have RV sites, yurts, custom furnished treehouses with electricity, beautiful tiny homes with outdoor living spaces, completely remodeled vintage airstreams, and gorgeous private cabins! Every unit was more beautiful and comfortable than the next. The backdrop for the campground is the wonderful Catskill Mountains and all of the nature that includes. A wonderfully inspiring place! 😊👍🏻

If you have an RV, they have 30/50 amp with electric and water. There is no sewer, but they have a dump-station and on-site Honeywagon truck that you can schedule. They staff was wonderful and went out of their way to make our stay perfect! 💗

    Caroga Lake Campground

Good facility, lacks much to do

We were there 4th of July weekend, and the park was fully booked. Very friendly rangers, electricity in bathrooms, hot showers, and a nice dishwashing and recycling center.

The campsite connects to the beach area and there is boat rental, but no pets allowed in the beach area.

For us, a drawback was a lack of any hikes connecting to the campsite.

    Caroga Lake Campground

    Overall, nice.

We spent a relatively quiet long weekend here on loop F 97, which is a bit removed from the main campground. It was a bit noisy on Saturday night but nothing disturbing.  This site also is bordered by a small stream so expect mosquitoes and the occasional visit from wildlife (we had raccoons at our site each night, so kept food in the car). Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table.

There is a store just outside the entrance that sells ice, wood, groceries.  There are quite a few roadside firewood sellers that are reasonably priced.  The fire pit does not have a narrow grilling grate so bringing something to ensure your food won't fall through the widely spaced bars is helpful.

As I said, our site was out of the main population, but it was a bit of a hike to the restroom which is something to keep in mind if you've really got to get to a bathroom first thing in the morning.

There is a Walmart about 10 miles away in Gloverville, so keep this in mind if you are planning on picking up essentials when you arrive.

There are no sites with electric.

    Lake Taghkanic State Park Campground

    Great Spot!

Big and spacious state park with many camping options. Has options for trailers, tent sites, platforms for tents and even some cabins. Small store in park that sells firewood and ice and a few other things you may need. Big lake with swimming and boating as well as many hiking trails. Bathrooms on site as well as showers. Some sites are close together, but there are a few a little more secluded and set back. Fire pits are great. Can’t wait to camp here again!

    Woodford State Park Campground

    Beautiful for fall foliage

This campground was great. Quiet, great fire pits, clean bathrooms, firewood and starter for sale plus access to day use area. The lake next to the campground is beautiful and has plenty of picnic tables and grills for use. Close to hiking trails and the city of Bennington.

    Moreau Lake State Park Campground

    Beautiful State Park

The road to our campsite was paved and in good shape but there were a few tight spots because of the trees that make it tricky for a big rig (Loop A seems to be the best for big-rigs). Great thing about this park is the hiking trails and lake so you don’t even have to leave to the park to enjoy great outdoor recreation. We found it enjoyable just to hang out in the park rather than trying to find things to do in the area. After hiking and paddling, we loved relaxing out at our campsite with a campfire.

Our campsite was spacious but required some maneuvering to avoid scraping trees with our RV. Campsites are spacious, shady, and had good separation between the neighboring sites which we enjoyed. Generators are allowed but not too many people were using them. The few other campers around that used them were mindful of quiet hours. Since it was still a little cool and our windows were closed and we never heard anyone’s generator. The park was not very crowded when we were there, but we can imagine it could get very busy and noisy in the busy summer season. The beach area seems to be a draw for people so the summer camping season is probably packed. The snack bar and gift/supplies shop at the sandy beach area were not open as we were there late in the season. There is also a nice playground for kids to enjoy.

This is dry camping so there are no hook-ups but there are restrooms and shower. Both were clean but the shower fluctuated between lukewarm, hot, and warm during my shower. Oh well, the shower felt good after our active days. There are two pavilions you can rent which are nice if big groups want to gather. Take note that only two pets are allowed per campsite, so plan accordingly if you are a pet owner.

Access is fairly easy, just off I-87, and there are plenty of signs directing you which way to go. Saratoga Springs and Lake George are nearby if you want to explore. We recommend visiting the National Horse Racing Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, if you have time. We would definitely stay here again.

    Alpine Lake RV Resort

Large park, things to do, places to go

Booked an "Elite 50amp" site but had no realistic map to go by. Many if these types of sites are parallel to the water, but the map makes them look like back in sites. If your site neighbors are in their spots already when you arrive it will probably be hard to navigate unless you have a 20' rig. We don't, ours is over 33'and we were lucky that our site neighbors were both home to move their trucks so we could get in. Once in our site had a steep drop off to the lake, not all are like this, but be cautious about this if you have young kids.

They have many activities you can do on site (swimming in pools or lakes, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, floating, bike riding, playgrounds or weekly planned events). They advertise having a trolly shuttle but never saw it while we were there.

Had some issues with the lack of lighting on the roads while walking our dogs and this only made it worse when the seasonals fly around in golf carts paying no mind to the large trucks trying to get by. The dumpsters were FAR away from everything so that was also an annoyance. They also have hundreds of sites and only one area with dumpsters, seems like poor planning. At the end of the weekend people had piled many garbage bags near the small garbage cans around the grounds.

The roads are narrow and many should be one way, but are not. It would have been impossible many places in the grounds to pass a rig on the road due to the amount of other's vehicles, golf carts, decorations etc... so patience is important when arriving and departing. The gas powered golf carts were also a bit of a negative only because our site was next to a speed bump, so the noise was a little but worse for us.

Had an issue with water pressure on Saturday around 10am and called the office to make sure there was not a known water issue. Front desk knew nothing and said they would send maintenance but we never saw anyone. The situation improved so we think it was just a high demand time of day.

We would return here due to the proximity to Lake George and Saratoga, but we would choose a totally different type of site.

We were on site 219 to give you perspective when viewing photos.

Copake Falls Area — Taconic State Park

    Great Place for First Timers

I went here with two of my coworkers for a relaxing weekend getaway. I'm use to the rough and tough it of backpacking the AT Trail so this place had quite a few amenities I am not use to! Haha. We stayed at a platform tent site and were able to park two vehicles on site but the grounds had plenty of parking not too far from the sites. Each of the sites had a large platform (enough room for one very large tent or 2-3 smaller tents), a fire pit, and picnic table. You are very close to your neighbor in this area but when we were there everyone was very respectful. There was potable water a short walking distance away as well as flushing toilets. There was a very large open grassy field for play/sports, a playground and life guarded portion of the lake for swimming. This location was very accesible to the Bish Bash Falls trail and even had a few side trails to explore. This place is very good for easing on first timers and there were quite a few children so those who are parents should consider this a great place to get kids involved in the outdoors as well. There were other accommodations such as RV hook ups, events, and rentals but we weren't there long enough to take adavatage of those. Overall a great experience and relatively cheap for what you get. I believe it was around $30 for two nights which was the minimum.

Guide to Voorheesville

Dispersed camping opportunities near Voorheesville, New York include several options within the eastern Catskill Mountains region, where elevations range from 1,400 to 4,000 feet. The area experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F during peak camping months. Most campgrounds in this region operate from May through October, with limited winter camping available at specific locations.

What to do

Hiking at Max V. Shaul State Park: This park offers multiple trails suitable for day hikes within a 30-minute drive from Voorheesville. "There is a children's playground and pavilion. Firewood is available to purchase," notes Darby R. about the park amenities. The trails connect to nearby waterfalls and scenic overlooks.

Fishing opportunities: Frosty Acres Campground maintains two fishing ponds where guests can fish without a license. "Two ponds to fish in, one you can swim in," explains James S. The ponds are stocked seasonally and support various fish species.

Cross-country skiing: Winter visitors staying at Frosty Acres Campground can access designated cross-country ski trails directly from their campsite. "You'll have the entire mountain side all to yourself! Snowshoe, cross country ski. Winter campfires," shares James S. about the winter camping section. Ski equipment rentals are available in nearby towns.

Weekend events: Many campgrounds host organized weekend activities throughout the season. "Themed weekends and an annual car show," mentions Rachel B. about the events at Frosty Acres. These events typically run Friday through Sunday during peak season months.

What campers like

Private wooded sites: Max V. Shaul State Park Campground offers secluded camping with substantial natural barriers between sites. "Lots of space between sites. There is a well traveled road near the park so you get traffic noise," reports Tom S. Most tent sites include cleared areas approximately 20×20 feet.

Modern bathhouses: Several campgrounds have recently upgraded their facilities. "The bath house is clean and modern. $27.50/night for non-resident," notes Tom S. about Max V. Shaul State Park. Most renovated bathhouses include hot showers, flush toilets, and accessible facilities.

Seasonal camping options: Long-term seasonal spots are available at reasonable rates. "Seasonal rates are excellent. We stayed from April until October then decided to stay over winter," writes James S. about Frosty Acres Campground. Most seasonal sites offer full hookups and dedicated parking.

Family-friendly atmospheres: Country Roads Campground provides separate camping areas for different user groups. "Mainly an RV ground, but they have about 10-15 great tent sites back beyond the RV area. There are water spigots near all the tent sites and they are nice and spread out," explains William R.

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds in the region only operate from May through mid-October. "May 15 to Columbus Day," is the listed season for Country Roads Campground. Reservations should be made at least 2-4 weeks in advance for summer weekends.

Winter camping limits: Only select campgrounds offer winter accommodation options. "They have a small winter section," notes James S. about Frosty Acres. Winter camping typically requires special reservation arrangements and may have limited facilities.

Campground renovations: Several properties have undergone recent improvements. "This campground has come so far in a short time! The new owners complete upgrades every season," explains Rachel B. about Frosty Acres Campground. Updated facilities often include new shower buildings, electric service upgrades, and enhanced common areas.

Variable water quality: Water systems at some campgrounds may have limitations. "The water! ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING! I'm guessing the new owners didn't do as much as the previous owners as far as water treatments," warns Peter S. about Nickerson Park Campground. Bringing additional drinking water is recommended.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature dedicated play areas for children. "There is a children's playground and pavilion," mentions Darby R. about Max V. Shaul State Park. These playgrounds typically include swings, climbing structures, and open field space for games.

Swimming options: Dedicated swimming areas with safety measures are available at select locations. "Kid friendly small pool," notes James S. about the swimming facilities at Frosty Acres. Most swimming areas operate from 10am-6pm during summer months.

Yurt camping Voorheesville, New York: For families seeking a balance between comfort and outdoor experience, Treetopia Campground offers yurt accommodations with electricity. "They have RV sites, yurts, custom furnished treehouses with electricity, beautiful tiny homes with outdoor living spaces, completely remodeled vintage airstreams, and gorgeous private cabins," explains Jeff & Steff's Excellent Adventure. Yurt rentals typically require 2-night minimum stays.

Family events: Organized activities for children occur regularly at many campgrounds. "They do fireside jams. I wish they'd bring back open mic!" shares Margaret L. about the family programming at Max V. Shaul State Park. Most events are included with camping fees.

Tips from RVers

Site selection for big rigs: Spacious Skies Woodland Hills accommodates larger RVs but requires careful site selection. "Flat ground area for camper was very narrow. Tricky footing for older folks like my wife and I," warns Ray P. RVs over 30 feet should request specific sites when making reservations.

Deck sites for smaller RVs: Some campgrounds offer specialized sites for compact RVs. "We went in late September and stayed on one of their deck sites with our Class B (Winnebago). I LOVED sitting out on the deck every morning for my coffee while taking in the fall air," shares Janly P. about the unique setup at Treetopia Campground. These sites typically fit RVs under 25 feet.

Dump station availability: Not all campgrounds offer full hookups, but most provide dump stations. "There is no sewer, but they have a dump-station and on-site Honeywagon truck that you can schedule," notes Jeff & Steff's Excellent Adventure about the services at Treetopia. Some locations charge additional fees for pump-out services.

Site escort services: Many RV-friendly campgrounds provide arrival assistance. "We were escorted to our site upon arrival and I certainly appreciated that as we were very tired after a long day of travel," explains Philip M. about the check-in process at Country Roads Campground.
