Monroe County's Webster Park encompasses 38 acres of wooded camping terrain located 15 miles northeast of Pittsford, New York. The campground sits just 1.5 miles from Lake Ontario shoreline, providing cooler summer temperatures than inland areas. Sites remain open from April 1 through October 31 with a strict 5 MPH speed limit throughout the property.
What to do
Lakefront recreation: Webster Park provides camping within walking distance of Lake Ontario. A visitor noted, "We stayed for 1 night on a Thursday. At&t reception is almost non existent. The park is flanked by a nature trail on the south side and a trail on the north side. The trail on the north side is refered to as the devil's nose. Beautiful sunsets can be seen from that vantage point" at Hamlin Beach State Park.
Historic site visits: Stay at Webster Park for convenient access to regional landmarks. "It is within an hour drive of many different areas for recreation and is close to Lake Ontario and the Genesee River," according to a camper at Letchworth State Park Campground, which offers its own historical points of interest.
Fishing opportunities: Multiple ponds and waterways near Pittsford provide fishing options for campers. One visitor mentioned, "There is a pond easily accessed for most to fish for trout, bass, and other fresh water species. During the fall there is a huge salmon run where fish up to 30 lbs are caught regularly."
What campers like
Well-maintained sites: Campers appreciate the upkeep at parks near Pittsford. A reviewer stated, "The campground is clean and well maintained. The sites are level, in great shape, and has a wonderful large wooded area" at Canandaigua-Rochester KOA.
Privacy between sites: The spacing between camping areas draws positive comments. "This was our first trip here. It was nothing short of perfect. Camp sites are wooded and private. Very quiet and peaceful. Clean and well maintained," noted a camper at Monroe County Webster Park.
Accessibility to supplies: Proximity to town amenities ranks high among campers. One visitor mentioned, "This is a nice little park. I've stayed four times in 2021, for as much as 2 weeks at a time. Cell phone coverage is poor by Verizon and T-Mobile, and there is no WiFi, and no camp store (but the town of Webster is nearby)."
What you should know
Water hookup challenges: RV campers should prepare for potential utility connection issues. A visitor warned, "You need a long hose for fresh water in the RV. No sewer sites," while another mentioned, "We had an okay bathroom (a bit run down) and clean, separate hot showers nearby our site, but our site was muddy and numerous sites around us were muddy, too."
Seasonal considerations: Weather patterns affect camping conditions significantly. A camper at Stay Bristol Woodlands advised, "Site was level and well equipped (waste water disposal attach site!). Bathrooms clean and fully functional."
Size restrictions: Not all campgrounds accommodate large rigs. At one location, a visitor noted, "The sites for large rigs are very close together but that is not surprising. Our site was clean and reasonably level but there was no shade at all. We were comfortable, though, after putting out the awning and setting up our portable gazebo."
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Families with children should consider sites near play areas. One parent shared, "We go to webster park family campground several times a year for the past few years. Nice central playground and bathroom/shower house. We stay close to the playground these days in our pop up usually at site 5 so our 5 and 9 year old can walk or ride to campground."
Kid-friendly activities: Many campgrounds offer structured entertainment for children. A visitor at Southwoods RV Resort reported, "Family friendly park, lots of activities, park hosts/owners are hands on and awesome. The campground has lots of amenities like two swimming pools, nice camp store, a large playground, miniature golf, sand volleyball and basketball courts."
Safety considerations: Speed limits protect children in camping areas. "Barb and Red are fantastic hosts. The speed limit is 5 MPH and they mean it.... Kids on bikes and having a good time in the enormous play area and the pool far enough from the campsites but close to the store and watchful eye of the staff," observed a camper.
Tips from RVers
Leveling information: RVers note site conditions vary at pet-friendly camping near Pittsford. "The staff are really nice and the place is clean. Almost all of the sites are not even close to level. Not a big issue with a fifth wheel but a real hassle with a motorcoach," warned one RVer.
Hookup locations: RVers should check utility placements before arrival. A camper explained, "All the utilities were placed appropriately so we didn't need any extensions. The water pressure and electric were good. Most of the roads in the park are paved with the exception of the pull-thru section in the front of the park which is gravel."
Size-specific sites: Larger vehicles require particular areas. "The difference is 30a power and no water or sewer, 50a power and water, and 50a power and water/sewer. There is a dump station. The motor home sites are all along the entrance road. The small and large trailer sites are distributed around the loop," noted a regular visitor.
