    Letchworth State Park Campground

A little gem with a lot to do

Cabin campers here at letchworth for the past two years. We stumbled on cabin camping at letchworth due to weekends being booked for almost the entire summer for tent spots. the cabins are spacious, with bunk beds, a stove, fridge, and a fire place. i thought they might be close together, yet they were all pretty private, with a fire ring and picnic table. There was a beautiful updated playground, and clean bathrooms. Last summer they had just opened the new nature center with guided hikes, and activities all summer long.

Great for the falls, swimming, hiking, white water rafting, kayaking and so much more!

    Sampson State Park Campground

    Back for a 2nd time

    HIGHLIGHTS :

    Most sites are pretty spacious

    Pets allowed in some loops

Marina convenience store with pontoon boat rentals

    Fishing

    Swimming

    Ice cream and concessions stand

    Arcade room

    Outdoor movie screen

    Nice playgrounds

    Military museum

Paved loops - good for bikes and scooters

    NEAR BY ATTRACTIONS: Wineries

    CONS:

Electric service boxes are shared in-between sites. This could pose an issue if your power cord is not long enough.

There is only source for water fill up. This could end up being a very very long wait if you arrive at the same time as other campers.

    Only 2 dump stations

They don’t allow pull-in camping. Campers MUST be backed in

    Conesus Lake Campground

Camping with amenities, close to fun

This is your typical Mom and Pop family campground, there are rules to follow but they do not hinder on your experience. They have a well stocked camp store, boat rentals, golf cart rentals, an indoor heated pool, jump pad, playgrounds, a hiking trail and frisbee golf. The bottom portion of the campground has mostly seasonal campers and cabins. You do have to go up a pretty steep hill to get to the 'transient' camping section, but there are many pull through, level, full hook up sites to choose from. ( We had site 250 and really liked it) The bathrooms were toilet/shower combos and were very clean. Attractions close by is a drive-in with 4 different screens, many places to eat, parks ( Vitale Park was really nice), a fun center with mini golf, go carts, batting cages, laser tag and arcade. We also experienced the local flea market in Avon, NY. It's HUGE!

    Flint Creek Campgrounds

Great activities, friendly hosts, full hook ups!

Close to wine country you will find this gem of a family campground. Dog and kid friendly with activities such as wagon rides, arts and crafts, movie night and various themed weekend events. The hosts were super friendly and welcoming during our entire stay. An easy back in site with full hookups (B10) backed against a row of trees and a field that provided much entertainment of squirrels and birds. There is a camp store with very reasonable prices and accepts credit cards. Wood ($4) and ice ($2) are also for sale. There are two small cabins to rent along with a couple of family tent sites. The bathrooms/showers were clean near the camp store. Amenities include a pool, mini golf ($1/person), two playgrounds, horseshoes, a recreation center with games and movies, basketball and shuffle board. There are many seasonal campers at this campground, but all seemed friendly and welcoming as well. It truly seemed like one big happy family there.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

    Darien Lakes State Park Campground

    Clean/Quiet Campground

9/25-9/29/22- The park was nearly empty, perhaps 6 or 8 other campers widely spread out. It was immaculate and the sites well spaced apart. All site have a picnic table and fire pit. Ours had both 30A and 50A power, was pretty level left/right but about 6” high in front before we leveled our 34’ fifth wheel. The park has drinking water faucets at a variety of places throughout, but site#15 has a faucet directly next to it, so we had water available too. Both AT&T 4G and Verizon 5G had 3 bars reception. The dump station was clean and convenient. It looked like a great place for kids that included at least one (probably more) playground.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Good Camping inside the Park

The campgrounds are conveniently located inside the Park so easy to get to the amazing falls towards the south as well as the dam in the north. We were in loop 300 which does not allow pets. Decent bathhouses right opposite our site. Our site was a gravel drive with a grassy area containing the picnic table and fire ring. Unfortunately due to rain the day before the grass was extremely muddy which make it hard to get to the fire ring. There was also white a lot of noise from adjacent sites, we could hear everyone's conversations and screaming kids. There was a laundry facility but no dishwashing.

Guide to Avon

Cabin rentals near Avon sit at approximately 600 feet elevation within the Genesee River Valley of western New York. The region features rolling hills, hardwood forests, and watershed areas feeding into the Finger Lakes. Most cabin facilities operate from May through October, with July and August temperatures averaging 80-85°F during daytime hours and cooler 55-65°F evenings.

What to do

Hiking at Letchworth State Park: The park offers over 66 miles of hiking trails ranging from easy 0.5-mile nature walks to more challenging 7-mile gorge rim paths. "The park itself is fantastic. The campgrounds are basic and very nice given the relatively high popularity. The campsites are in two main areas of the park and further broken down into many different loops," notes Harry H. about Letchworth State Park Campground.

Swimming options: Natural swimming areas provide alternatives to standard pools. At Stony Brook State Park Campground, visitors find a unique swimming experience. "This park is beautiful and has a unique swimming area- a 'pool' carved from the mountain! There are lots of paths and picnic areas, as well as beautiful hiking trails and creeks to cool off in," shares Kayti D. about Stony Brook State Park Campground.

Fishing ponds: Several campgrounds maintain stocked fishing areas suitable for all skill levels. The Ridge Campsite offers multiple fishing ponds along with other recreational options. "Sites are very big and clean has plenty to do with multiple fishing ponds, swimming pool and playgrounds. They have a nice little store for necessities and a snack shop," reports Nick O.

What campers like

Secluded cabin sites: Several properties offer more private accommodations set back from main camping areas. "Ontario County lookout is a quick easy walk away from the campground that is never crazy busy. Great prices and cleaned up campgrounds," states Peter about Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill.

Clean bathroom facilities: Many cabin guests appreciate well-maintained shower and restroom buildings. "The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/showers available at all hours," explains Shari G. about Letchworth State Park.

Winter cabin availability: While most sites close seasonally, several properties offer year-round cabin rentals. Webster Park remains open through October with heated cabin options. "This is a nice little park. I've stayed four times in 2021, for as much as 2 weeks at a time," notes Carl C. about Webster Park.

What you should know

Cabin reservation windows: Most properties open bookings 9-12 months in advance, with holiday weekends filling within days of availability. "This is a popular park so make reservations," advises Amber A. about Letchworth State Park.

Varying amenity levels: Cabin facilities range from basic shelters to fully-equipped units. "The camp store offered a few grocery items, along with cold drinks, firewood and ice in addition to laundry facilities," mentions Shari G. describing Letchworth amenities.

Wildlife considerations: Cabin areas regularly see wildlife activity requiring proper food storage. "Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours," reports Dayne B. about Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill.

Tips for camping with families

Playground accessibility: When booking cabins with children, consider proximity to play areas. "Playground in walking distance and private sites! We loved it here. Will definitely return," shares Janelle G. about Webster Park.

Kid-friendly activities: Several properties schedule regular weekend events for younger guests. "We spent father's day weekend at the KOA. Our kids rented cabins and some used tents and others came for the day. The campground has so much to do between swimming, golf, bike and paddle boat rentals," explains Rich L. about Canandaigua-Rochester KOA.

Natural play opportunities: Some cabin areas offer unique outdoor experiences for children. "We picked blueberries off a bush near our campsite to have with our breakfast every morning. I love this place because it is a short drive from our home and we feel we are far away from the city," describes Dorothy P. about Stony Brook State Park.

Tips from RVers

Access considerations: Some cabin areas share access roads with RV sites requiring navigation awareness. "Driveway getting in and out is a little tight for big units, definitely have to swing wide," notes Nick O. about The Ridge Campsite.

Utility hookups: For those bringing additional equipment to cabin sites, water and electric availability varies. "You need a long hose for fresh water in the RV. No sewer sites," explains Janelle G. about Webster Park's utility setup.

Seasonal operations: Most cabin facilities in the region follow similar seasonal patterns. "Sites are level and in great shape," shares Ken B. about Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, which operates from April through October like many local camping cabin options near Avon.
