All Media Marketing: Driving Digital Innovation and Brand Growth Since 2008

    Horrible Customer Service

I would like to start off by saying this was our first time visiting the Medina Wildwood Koa and unfortunately it will have to be our last. Our camp ground it’s self was great. Lots of space, a picnic bench, a fire pit, a grill and even a lake you can fish/rent boats to go on right behind us!

There were many different ways to keep busy and have fun. We were able to float in tubes at the creek, go swimming, rent a peddle boat, play at the playground, rent a golf cart, and jump on a big jumping pillow. And I must say the bathrooms were pristine and air conditioned! Loved that!!

The major problem with this campground is the very rude people. Not only was the customer service absolutely horrible and spoke to not only adults but also children in a very rude harsh way making us ALL feel incompetent/uneducated but the regulars at this campground are just as rude and disrespectful. How can you ever feel welcome or want to come back to a campground with staff saying things like: “You must not know how to read” and clearing there throats very loudly with their arms crossed before telling us other things we may have been doing wrong very sarcastically.

I do admit that we did do some things the wrong way and as soon as we found out or saw on our own we corrected them. It’s just not something I would ever want to endure again especially since my kids feelings were hurt the most and this was ment for them to have fun.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Unexpected Surroundings

In most states, those without falls like Niagara, this state park would be the pride of the land. With three serious drops in as many miles, the Genesse River winds it’s way through what locals call the “Grand Canyon of the East.” Many states try to make such claims, but this might be the closest any come to actually living up to such. It is stunning!

Along the river this park gives the motorist the distinct feel that she is on a parkway, not unlike Shenendoah, or Blue Ridge. Every few miles the winding pavement breaks out onto a few of the ridges and valley below, before ducking back into the forest of Western New York.

The campground, which is about 15 miles from the major falls area, offers what many come to expect from state parks. There are a wide variety of campsites, all reservable online, which can accommodate lots of different types of camping, large RV’s, small tents, and everything in between. Most, if not all, campsites offer electrical and water is available close by.

The bathrooms are practically luxurious by most camping standards, with single-use restroom/ showers available at all hours. The camp store offered a few grocery items, along with cold drinks, firewood and ice in addition to laundry facilities. Within a short walk were many hiking trails, an old-school fitness path, and a stellar playground where anyone under 9 years of age should get a great workout.

But let’s be honest, we’re not coming here for the campground, it’s the rest of the park that makes the drive worth it. So, check it out and get to know this stunning place first hand and be sure to bring a picnic basket.

    Cute cabins and amazing views

We stayed in a cute cabin with running water, a stove, and a heater for cold nights! Outside we had a picnic table and a campfire pit. The park itself has amazing hiking with awesome views. Highly recommend!

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Amazing state park, crappy campground

The state park is breathtaking. The campground is horrendous. The restrooms were disgusting. The site barely fit our one tent (8man Coleman) even though it was advertised as a two tent site. The camp fire ring had no solid base- it just sat on the grass and fires would not stay lit. The quiet hours were not enforced. Yelling and loud music kept us up until ridiculous hours. I would not rate this as family friendly.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Beautiful place

Letchworth is absolutely stunning. The views are beautiful, however the scenic areas are at least a 10 minute drive from the campground. The park is massive.

There is a huge variation in site sizes. We lucked out and got a large site with privacy and an area for the kids to run around, however the site directly across from us was little more than the gravel pad and fire pit. Some of the sites are right on top of each other. Great for group camping, not so much if you want any privacy.

Only two out of the 8 loops (200 and 700 loops) have updated bathrooms (single toilet with handheld showers in half of the bathrooms). The others loops have older facilities with three traditional toilet stalls and two showers.

We loved our site but would’ve preferred to stay in a loop with the updated bath houses as we have younger children and a tent trailer.

All sites have electricity. Some loops are pet friendly, some are pet free. The camp store has a good selection of necessities, albeit expensive for discount brands. The pool is 4-5 miles down the road from the camping area.

    Would absolutely camp here again.

Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill

    Wonderful!

Great secluded tent camping (recomend numbers 7 and 8), cabins are new and ample beds and space. Camper camping is close to everything, but less privacy. Numerous pavilions that are wonderful for parties or weddings. Stunning overlook that is breathtaking (also great for weddings). Hiking, bike trails, fishing pond, playground, open fields for sports, much more!!! Great for photo shoots, weekend stress getaways etc. I live close by and visit a few times a month.

    Golden Hill State Park Campground

    Quiet Campground Over Lake Ontario

We camped at Golden Hill over the weekend of July 24-26, 2020. Due to COVID, advance reservations are required to book a spot at any NY state campground. We had site 47 in loop C, which was across the road from the lake view sites. I recommend sites 40-45 for lake-front views. Loops A and B were more crowded and more suitable to RV trailers and rigs (we were camping in a pop-up camper). Site 47 was large and had a few trees. The campfire ring was right against the pad, which made it difficult to position our pop-up so that it was away from the fire ring.

Things to consider: There are 2 bathrooms in the campground, one near the A-B loops and one near the entrance. It was quite a hike in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom from our site. Some sites in the A-B loops are right next to each other, and we preferred the space for the sites in the C loop.

Wonderful things: The views are spectacular, particularly at sunset. The campground was quiet at night. The Niagara Wine trail is close to this campground, and Niagara Falls is about a 50 minute drive away. We hiked Devil's Hole and Whirlpool State Parks on this camping trip. The showers in the bathrooms were phenomenal - very clean with hot water and a private dressing area next to the shower. Showers were ADA compliant and had shower seats.

    Canandaigua-Rochester KOA

    Camping near Canandaigua, New York

Campers exploring the Canandaigua area discover a delightful mix of lakeside retreats, wooded state parks, and family-friendly RV resorts. Just minutes from downtown, Canandaigua City Park Campground offers easy access to local shops and the lakefront beach, making it a convenient base for those who want town amenities within walking distance. A short drive farther out leads to Keuka Lake State Park Campground and the privately owned Canandaigua-Rochester KOA, both of which feature spacious sites, clean facilities, and excellent opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and fishing on the Finger Lakes. For those seeking a quieter experience, numerous backcountry and dispersed sites are tucked into the surrounding National Forest, where campers can truly unplug—though it’s essential to bring all necessary supplies and practice Leave No Trace principles. Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill and the Stay Bristol Woodlands campground blend rustic charm with modern comforts: well-maintained restrooms, picnic shelters, and on-site hiking trails that wind through hardwood forests and offer scenic overlooks, especially stunning during fall foliage season. Travel logistics are a breeze when visitors prearrange an airport shuttle from Rochester or Syracuse airports, ensuring a smooth transition from plane to campsite. And for adventurers mapping out multiple stops across the Finger Lakes or beyond, reliable multi-city transfers provide comfortable, door-to-door rides—no rental car necessary. With its blend of waterfront sites, wooded hideaways, and nearby attractions—wineries, waterfalls, and historic villages—the Canandaigua region truly has something for every type of camper. Whether pitching a tent under the stars or rolling in with an RV, visitors will find endless opportunities for adventure and relaxation.

    Letchworth State Park Campground

    Hidden gem

My husband and I just got our first camping setup (tent). Letchworth was a wonderful first experience together. The campground can be almost 15 miles from the entrance of the park at points, but we just asked someone at the visitors center and found it easily after that. The restrooms are all well kept regardless of being updated or not and the campground as a whole is very quiet. There are very active raccoons and skunks that have been pretty domesticated, so putting away food is very very important. The skunks also are not easily startled. The only downside was a large group of young guys that were being really loud and obnoxious well into quiet hours our last night, but it was nothing my pair of earplugs couldn’t fix. Also probably wouldn’t have even heard them if we were in a camper rather than a tent. Overall, it was exactly what we wanted and needed. We will absolutely be back!

Guide to Avon

Glamping and camping options near Avon, New York sit at elevations ranging from 500-1,500 feet with seasonal temperatures that can drop below freezing even in late spring. The region features hardwood forests punctuated by glacially-formed lakes and gorges where water levels fluctuate significantly throughout the year. Most campgrounds in this region operate from early May through mid-October with peak visitation occurring during July and August.

What to do

Hike gorge trails with water access: Stony Brook State Park Campground offers hiking experiences through multiple waterfall areas with a natural swimming area. "The hike through the gorge to see all the waterfalls is stunning and can't be passed up," notes one camper. Trails range from easy 0.5-mile paths to more challenging 3-mile routes with substantial elevation changes.

Play disc golf and fish: Darien Lakes State Park Campground includes a "fairly new Frisbee golf course" and "nice lakes to fish and swim in" according to one visitor. The park maintains a 12-acre pond stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, and bullhead. Disc golf equipment rentals cost $5 at the park office from May through September.

Winter camping options: Some parks in the region offer winter access despite seasonal campground closures. One visitor reported, "We did some winter camping here. We backpacked into the lean-to along the Conservation Trail. It was in good condition and we had a large clearing for activities." Winter camping reservations must be made 7 days in advance with the park office.

What campers like

Privacy of tent sites: Webster Park receives consistent praise for site separation. "Camp sites are wooded and private. Very quiet and peaceful," reports one camper. Another notes, "There was good separation between the campsites and the bathrooms and showers were clean." Sites numbered 5-12 offer the most woodland privacy.

Clean facilities: Ontario County Park at Gannett Hill maintains well-kept facilities year-round. "The washrooms facility is very close and speaking for the men's side, it had 2 stalls, 2 urinals, 2 showers, multiple sinks, and a sturdy baby changing station," one camper details. The park also offers "cabins are new and ample beds and space" for those seeking glamping close to Avon, New York.

Wildlife viewing: Multiple parks offer animal sighting opportunities, especially during mornings and evenings. "Deer, chipmunks and rabbits will say hi in the early and late hours," notes a visitor. Another camper at Webster Park adds, "This is a nice little park. I've stayed four times in 2021, for as much as 2 weeks at a time." Early morning hours (5-8am) provide optimal wildlife viewing conditions.

What you should know

Weather variables: Summer camping can face unexpected conditions. One camper at Letchworth State Park Campground noted, "Beautiful state park, very lush green from all the rain unfortunately the smoke from the Canadian fires near have made it unhealthy here, especially strenuous outdoor activities." Weather patterns can change quickly in the region's valleys.

Cell coverage limitations: Connectivity varies significantly between campgrounds. "Cell phone coverage is poor by Verizon and T-Mobile, and there is no WiFi, and no camp store (but the town of Webster is nearby)," reports one camper. Signal strength is typically strongest at campground entrances and higher elevation points.

Reservations essential: Popular campgrounds fill quickly, especially for premium glamping accommodations close to Avon. "This is a JEWEL. Book early. Bring your hiking shoes & camera," advises one Letchworth visitor. Reservation windows open 9 months in advance for most state parks in the region.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Southwoods RV Resort offers extensive play areas. "2 well kept pools, playgrounds, laundry facilities, mini golf, soccer, basketball. The employees are so helpful and nice!" notes one visitor. Another adds, "Lots of plays areas for kids. Weekend sites would be pretty tight together if they were fully booked."

Swimming options: Natural swimming areas provide alternatives to typical pool settings. At Stony Brook, "The picnic area is nice. There's a ton of picnic tables and the area is spread out. Even though it was busy, you didn't feel on top of anyone." Swimming areas at most parks have lifeguards on duty from 11am-7pm during peak summer season.

Activity planning: Schedule activities based on weather patterns and crowd levels. "We stayed in a nice spot. The area we were in was a little too open for our liking, but in a park with this kind of scenery it was fine because we didn't spend a lot of time at the camper," notes one visitor, emphasizing the importance of off-site activities during peak times.

Tips from RVers

Water hookup considerations: At Webster Park, RV sites require longer-than-standard equipment. "You need a long hose for fresh water in the RV. No sewer sites," notes one camper. Many sites require 50+ feet of drinking water hose due to shared spigot locations.

Site leveling: Ontario County Park requires preparation. "Make sure to bring plenty of leveling blocks as some sites are far from level," advises one RVer. Sites 10-15 are notably sloped, requiring blocks for both front-to-back and side-to-side leveling.

Weekday stays recommended: Southwoods RV Resort offers a dramatically different experience based on timing. "We stayed on a weekday, told weekends are busy," reports one camper. Another mentions, "We experienced the park going from half full and quiet to packed with lots of music, all-day fires, and big gatherings." Weekday rates may also be 20-30% lower than weekend rates during peak season.
