Best RV Parks & Resorts near Salem, NM

Several RV parks are located within 30 miles of Salem, New Mexico, providing full hookup options for travelers. Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort offers year-round access with 50-amp electrical service, water and sewer hookups, and accommodates large recreational vehicles. Las Cruces KOA features pull-through RV sites with 50-amp connections, concrete pads, and picnic tables on level grounds. Hacienda RV Resort provides 113 sites with full hookups, catering specifically to RVs with no tent camping allowed. Sites throughout the region are primarily gravel pads with varying dimensions, though spacing between units can be tight at some locations. "The sites are level, but very close to. Lots of dust. 30/50 amp, water & sewer. Free WiFi and Cable TV."

Most RV parks in the area maintain dump stations, though availability varies by location. Cell service strength differs significantly between parks, with Verizon and AT&T showing consistent coverage near larger towns but spotty reception in remote locations. Pet owners will find designated dog areas at several facilities, including Dream Catcher RV Park which offers an enclosed dog run that receives positive mentions in reviews. Propane service is available at select locations, though not universally provided. During peak travel seasons, particularly winter months when snowbirds migrate south, advance reservations become essential as many parks fill quickly. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, travelers with larger rigs should confirm site dimensions before arrival, as one visitor noted: "Sites here are also very close together. Water and electric sits pretty much centered on the gravel pad, with the sewer more towards the back. With our 5th wheel parked all the way back in the site, we needed 15' of sewer hose."

    Hacienda RV Resort

    Beautiful and relaxing

This is an RV resort, not to be confused either an RV park. Lots of large pull through sites, a few back in. Water, sewer, electric- 30/50 amp. WiFi, cable TV, patio with fireplace and hot tub. There used to be an exercise room, meeting rooms, copy & fax service, & laundry. The bathroom and showers are clean and nice. Plus, they have a dog wash area and one of the best dog run areas I’ve found at an RV park or resort! There is actually room for the dogs to run.

Lions Beach Campground — Elephant Butte Lake State Park

    Pretty view, far from water

We stayed on the B loop in spot 86, with a 40 foot motorhome. It was easy to get in and out. We have a water hook up and a thirty amp.Hookup but no sewer. According to their website, the B loop is waterfront, but that just means it has the best water view, we are about three quarters of a mile from the actual lake.

The actual campground is very quiet. There's more fifth wheels in class c.Motorhomes down on the actual beach dispersed camping. It looks like a ton of fun but a little risky driving on the sand. I talked to a guy that had to get towed out of the sand yesterday. People are loading their boats and jet skis right on the beach.

The RV site has a nice concrete pad with a cover over it and a picnic table. There are a few little trees as well.

Great cell service for AT&T and Verizon

    Dream Catcher RV Park

    Excellent in the basics.

This campground is very well maintained. The restrooms and laundry room are obviously well used but very clean. Their is a dog park, dump station, and air compressor, and dumpsters on site. When it reopens the Quality Inn next door allows guest to use the pool and fitness center. Their is also a bar and grill inside. The park has 117 sites with about half being pull through. All of them appear to be full hookup with the rear row given over to long term guest. There is additional space for dry camping if you prefer. If you are arriving late, call ahead so they have your documents waiting outside. If you don't have a reservation, documents are available to self-register, but it is cash only. The lot is full gravel, so bring your camp shoes, and the wind will keep your awning rolled up. The temperature was near 100F on the day that I arrived but by the time the sun started to go down the breeze made for a nice evening. The only negative thing I have to say is that the light pollution makes it very hard to see any stars.

    Wagon Wheel RV Park

    No thanks

Shabby, looks like for long term residents. Tight spaces. Run down appearance. Off of main road so there is loud car as well as train noise. 55+ age restrictions. Checked it out but would not stay here. No tent sites available.  Has wifi, cable, and laundry. 30 & 50 amp as well as pull through sites.

There are other RV parks in this area that are much nicer and more welcoming and at around the same price.

    Percha Dam State Park Campground

    Peaceful and Quiet

Tucked in next to the Rio Grande, Perch Dam Campground is quiet, clean, and enjoyable. The bathrooms were spotless and well maintained, as were the pit toilets in the dispersed area.  Most sites easily can fit a 35 - 40 foot rig.  There is water and electric (15, 30, 50 amp) at all reserved sites.  The only drawback, no RV dump station on site; you'll need to go to Caballo SP to dump.  Had great Verizon cell service while there.  We will return!

    Rockhound State Park Campground

    Nice Place

Another really nice place in New Mexico. Near enough to the freeway, but far enough to not notice it. Near enough to town for a quick bite out or supplies, but far enough to not be bothered by it. Quiet and peaceful with good trails for walking the dogs.

Facilities: Hot water, free showers, flush toilets, soap, dump station, not much more you need

Cell Service: Good enough Verizon and T-mobile to work remotely

Starlink: While we didn't need to use it, all sites are open to the sky if you needed to

Solar: All sites are open to the sky for good solar

What to do

Mountain views and photography spots: Las Cruces KOA provides excellent vantage points for landscape photography. "The place is beautiful and well maintained. Lots of views that everyone can enjoy. A stunning mountain range view that make sunrises and sets a treat," notes Brittany F. in her review of Las Cruces KOA.

Local exploration opportunities: Several RV parks serve as convenient bases for exploring nearby attractions. One visitor at Las Cruces KOA mentioned, "Took a short drive to La Mesilla and the farmers market in Las Cruces—definitely recommend both. White Sands is also not too far if you're up for a day trip."

Water recreation access: Elephant Butte Lake State Park offers water activities despite fluctuating water levels. "The lake front was crowded with campers and people. Water was clear and cool with lots of carp," reports Jonathan M. Visitors can launch boats or enjoy swimming during warmer months.

What campers like

Affordable hookup options: State park camping provides budget-friendly alternatives to private RV parks. Joseph W. shared about Lower Ridge Road Camping Area: "I used my NM state park pass on this stay and for only $4 a night includes 30Amp and water. I have about 20 channels available, wifi works well and no problems with my Verizon service."

Amenities for extended stays: Many parks offer comfort-focused facilities. At Little Vineyard RV Park, a camper noted, "This place has a heated pool spa and a game room with pool table. In the evening there were two lit fire pits that you can sit around. It's a dark sky area you can see a lot of stars."

Off-leash pet areas: Dog parks rank high in camper satisfaction. Joel R. commented about Hacienda RV Resort: "Plus, they have a dog wash area and one of the best dog run areas I've found at an RV park or resort! There is actually room for the dogs to run."

What you should know

Noise considerations: Many RV parks in the area experience transportation noise. A reviewer at Dream Catcher RV Park shared: "This RV park is right off of highway 10 so there is quite a bit of road noise and train noise."

Seasonal considerations: Winter months bring an influx of long-term visitors. Laura M. noted about Sunny Acres RV Park: "This 55+ park is in town so close to shopping. Good view of Organ Mountains. Park is clean and well maintained. Residents and staff were friendly."

Water pressure variations: High water pressure exists at several parks. "Water pressure was a bit high but with a regulator it was fine," reported a camper at Siesta RV Park. Another visitor at Hacienda advised: "Staff is friendly and let us know water pressure is high so use a reducer."

Tips for camping with families

Shared amenities access: Some parks have arrangements with nearby hotels. A Dream Catcher RV Park reviewer mentioned: "The La Quinta next door allows campers to use their pool and work out room so that was a nice bonus; there was an entrance in the side of the fence so you don't have to walk on the busy road."

Activity options for kids: Look for parks with recreation facilities. Candy P. shared about Las Cruces KOA: "The kids enjoyed cornhole, basketball, tetherball, and the playground. The store was well stocked."

Weather considerations: Summer heat can limit outdoor activities. One camper at Hacienda noted: "Might be a bit nicer in cooler weather—just way too hot to do much around grounds (BBQ, cornhole, spa)."

Tips from RVers

Site selection priorities: Corner or end sites often provide more space. Jeffrey T. shared about his stay at Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort: "We travel with 3 dogs, so they moved me from site 23 to site 27. It was a site with plenty of room for our dog fence. It was in a nice corner of the park with immediate road access."

Security considerations: Some areas have experienced theft issues. A reviewer at Hacienda RV Resort noted: "Staff cautioned us that there have been some bike thefts in area and let us know that if we wanted, we could keep bikes inside their office at no charge."

Overnight protocols: For late arrivals, check if self-registration is available. Sebastian S. mentioned about Hacienda RV Resort: "I arrive late. It was awesome. They had a reservation box. You just go in the box. Look for your name pull out the paper gives you all the information you need."
