Flat spots with hook ups

This is a pretty normal lake campground. Not a lot of shade or privacy but picnic tables and covered outdoor spaces. There are bathrooms close by and they seem fine. Quiet during the off season and nice hiking trails.

Beautiful place

When I called about availability we were told there were a lot of dry spots available. Works for us! When we got there the person at gate had no idea where the campgrounds were and would not let us check out sites without paying for day use. The campground had water shutoff on Memorial Day weekend. No bathrooms or showers.

Management aside, this place is gorgeous. We dry camped by lake right under mountains. Would not pay for campground with no water but for $10 to dry camp by the water, love it.

Great T-Mobile service. Easy to access.

Good Campground

Stayed at the Appaloosa Campground. Was surprised when we should up that we had water. Electric works great. Ground is pretty hard and rocky so wouldn’t be good for tent camping.

Clean campground, friendly camp hosts, and courteous Rangers

After spending 10 days here, it's time to give a review!  We stayed at site 12, in the Appaloosa campground.  The sites are all pull through  with water, electric (20 amp and 30 amp), and shelter; and the dump station. surrounded by a cactus garden, makes the nasty job of dumping a little more palatable ;-).   The Rangers drive through daily, as well as, the camp hosts checking the surroundings.  The bathrooms are spotless!  There are many activities and sight seeing opportunities to visit in the nearby towns of T & C, Hillsboro, and Hatch, to name a few.  We don't believe you'll be disappointed staying here. We will be returning!

Great wide open spacious gravel flat areas

The park is on the lake it's named after. They have a brand new visitor Center opened yesterday December 11, 2021. There are views of the lake and the nearby mountains. The sites are spacious and spread out on flat level gravel. There are a few tall trees but there are shrubs and some small Juniper and Pinyon tree's. It is not far off of I 25. There is another state park within 10 miles on the other side of the dam. You can sometimes hear highway noise from 817. You can see the traffic on I-25.

Beautiful Views

Were there in mid February. At the Appaloosa campground. Nice campground. We only had 30 amp, but that didn't seem to be a problem. Nice, covered picnic table/patio. Beautiful view of the mountains and Lake. Lovely sunsets.(look for the elephant shadow on the mountain at sunset). Serenaded by mourning doves and flocks or overflying geese. Not much around, but did have a nice soak in the Hot Springs in Truth or Consequences. Short, easy walking trails around park. Descent bathrooms and showers. Dark enough with no moon to see the Milky Way- a rare treat these days. Would stay again.

When we left we drove through a kitchy little town called Hatch, might want to check that out next time.

I come out here to mostly kayak, fish & walk my dogs. Kayaking is best when the sunrises because you get a beautiful view of it rising behind the mountains. My dogs enjoy exploring the surrounding area.
