    Dream Catcher RV Park

    Excellent in the basics.

This campground is very well maintained. The restrooms and laundry room are obviously well used but very clean. Their is a dog park, dump station, and air compressor, and dumpsters on site. When it reopens the Quality Inn next door allows guest to use the pool and fitness center. Their is also a bar and grill inside. The park has 117 sites with about half being pull through. All of them appear to be full hookup with the rear row given over to long term guest. There is additional space for dry camping if you prefer. If you are arriving late, call ahead so they have your documents waiting outside. If you don't have a reservation, documents are available to self-register, but it is cash only. The lot is full gravel, so bring your camp shoes, and the wind will keep your awning rolled up. The temperature was near 100F on the day that I arrived but by the time the sun started to go down the breeze made for a nice evening. The only negative thing I have to say is that the light pollution makes it very hard to see any stars.

    Wagon Wheel RV Park

    No thanks

Shabby, looks like for long term residents. Tight spaces. Run down appearance. Off of main road so there is loud car as well as train noise. 55+ age restrictions. Checked it out but would not stay here. No tent sites available.  Has wifi, cable, and laundry. 30 & 50 amp as well as pull through sites.

There are other RV parks in this area that are much nicer and more welcoming and at around the same price.

    Percha Dam State Park Campground

    Peaceful and Quiet

Tucked in next to the Rio Grande, Perch Dam Campground is quiet, clean, and enjoyable. The bathrooms were spotless and well maintained, as were the pit toilets in the dispersed area.  Most sites easily can fit a 35 - 40 foot rig.  There is water and electric (15, 30, 50 amp) at all reserved sites.  The only drawback, no RV dump station on site; you'll need to go to Caballo SP to dump.  Had great Verizon cell service while there.  We will return!

    Manzanos RV Park

    Great option in Silver City

Man, free pulled pork BBQ every Sat. evening garnered this place the 5th star!  :)

Stayed 4/23- 4/30. Nice RV park just outside of Silver City with large spaces and junipers between the spaces. We were in #16 which was huge. Full hookups, laundry. Only one bath with a shower. Naturalized pet relief area with some desert vegetation. Dirt road to the place from Kirkland. No playground so saw no kids staying there. Seemed like mature, respectful RVers. Some folks were extended stay, seemed like any long term residents were in a different area; overall nice, neat, quiet, and tidy. John keeps things in good order.

BTW, in Silver City for Tour of the Gila, cool to see the stage races.

Food aside: Heated up some frozen Bertolli pasta dinner and then: nothing on Sat. night because, free BBQ!!  Donations appreciated.

    Sunrise RV Park

    Barren but Nice

This park is off of a 4 lane main road so road noise is an issue. Trains and highway noise can also be heard throughout the night. The facilities are clean and well kept. Full hook ups 30/50 amp sites, no tents. Sites are a bit close to your neighbor. Large flat gravel lot typical of RV parks.

Have yearly rates so some spaces are occupied by residents.

This is a 55+ park. Pet friendly, WiFi/cable and laundry available.

    Iron Creek Campground

One of my favorites in the Gila Forest

About 10 sites, most of them shaded with picnic tables and fire rings. Has garbage collection, and a vault toilet. Usually peaceful and quiet. Nice hiking trails throughout. No cell signal. Most spots are fairly flat with slight adjustment.

City of Rocks State Park Campground

Non Electric - Each Site Unique

City of Rocks, NMSP: NON- ELECTRIC Sites: Sites Nestled into Uniqueness. One of the best campgrounds , in regards to campsite layout, we have stayed in during 4 1/2 years of full timing - (Electric sites are not so. They do have views, but are crowded together.) (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

(71 yr olds in 17’ trailer.)

Overall Rating: 5 for the non-electric sites. The are nestled into semi private/private locations. I did not see a non-electric site that I would not enjoy. Even the worst of these sites would be among the best at many campgrounds. Sites in the back loop where we stayed were among the best. Price 2024 : $10 for non-electric sites Security: I think the gates are locked at night. Not sure.
Usage during visit: Electric sites were full . Primitive sites had some availability. Site Privacy: Good to great Site Spacing: Many sites are very well spaced.
Site surface: Gravel Reservations: Yes Campground Noise: Quiet Outside Road Noise: Too isolated for this to be an issue.
Through Traffic in campground: None Electric Hookup: Availability Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: No Potable Water Available: Yes Generators: Allowed Bathroom: Pit toilets are throughout the campground. Showers: No Pull Throughs: Yes, there are some.
Cell Service (AT&T): 0 - 2 bars depending on location Setting: Primitive sites are set among the rocks. Electric hook up sites are close together, but have a view of the rocks and desert. They are not as nicely laid out.

Guide to Hanover

The Hanover, New Mexico area sits at approximately 6,500 feet elevation, where temperatures can fluctuate dramatically between seasons. Summer days reach into the 90s while winter nights frequently drop below freezing. RV sites near Hanover provide access to the Gila National Forest with its distinctive southwestern desert landscape and mountain terrain.

What to do

Hot springs access: Faywood Hot Springs offers both clothing required and clothing optional soaking areas about 40 miles from Hanover. "Tubs are the perfect temperature. Overnight guests have access to a 24 hour pool," notes Kelsey G. Rates start at $21 for camping with hot springs access included.

Hiking to natural hot springs: From Gila Hot Springs Campground, trails lead to additional thermal features. "Stayed here for one night beginning of Feb 2021 after the long hike out to Jordan hot springs. Great camp sites along the Gila River. Use of the 3 hot spring pools anytime!" reports Shainna M.

Explore historic areas: Several campgrounds provide access to Silver City's historic downtown district. "This camp ground is conveniently located to Old Town Silver City. The staff is friendly, the site was clean and level. The bathrooms and showers were clean as well," writes Greg R.

What campers like

Natural privacy barriers: At Rose Valley RV Ranch, spacing between campsites creates peaceful camping. "Nice widely spaced sites separated by nice juniper evergreens. Place is very tidy and well cared for," notes Rocky K. The natural landscaping creates wind breaks and visual barriers between sites.

Quiet atmosphere: Many campgrounds maintain peaceful environments despite proximity to attractions. "Quiet with many amenities like laundry and super nice room built to hang out with others," writes Mike M. about Continental Divide Park & Camp.

Walking access to amenities: Some camping locations offer convenient access to supplies. "I stayed here during CDT Days. It's close to downtown. There's a grocery store within walking distance as well as a Dairy Queen and a Lottaburger. Very quiet. Hot showers. Full hookups," says Heather K.

What you should know

Cell service variations: Connectivity can be limited in remote camping areas. "No phone or wifi, who need it when you have your own hot springs to bask in? The three pools are cute, clean and have a natural look to them," says Kristen R.

Seasonal conditions: Summer brings heat while winter nights can be very cold. "We went in July which was still a bit warm for the area. The camp ground was clean with good facilities and friendly people," reports Nick A. about Manzanos RV Park.

Long-term residents: Some RV parks have permanent residents. "I think the campground is very nice and convenient to downtown. Full hookups, clean bathrooms and for the summer, nice shade. A lot of local tenants but it was quiet and well cared for with just a few spots coming and going," says Teresa T.

Tips for camping with families

Bathroom availability: Not all campgrounds have extensive facilities. "Bathrooms are okay. $7 per person per night," notes Liz P. When traveling with children, prioritize campgrounds with clean, accessible restrooms.

Weather preparation: Pack for temperature swings, especially when tent camping. "Love the hot springs, great hosts, calm, and not too many people. Can get cold at night if you are in a tent, bring warm clothing," advises Elisa P.

Recreational options: Some locations provide additional activities beyond camping. "The La Quinta next door allows campers to use their pool and work out room so that was a nice bonus; there was an entrance in the side of the fence so you don't have to walk on the busy road," explains Laura M. about Dream Catcher RV Park.

Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Some parks require careful maneuvering for larger vehicles. "Very small and tight park. It was basically cheap and cheerful. Used the laundry which wasn't exciting but it did the job. You can walk to the old town from here," shares Rosie G.

Campsite selection: Review site maps before booking when possible. "Our site was a pull through but was too tight with other sites to actually pull our 33 ft trailer and truck through. We had to back out. Park navigation a bit tight for big rigs," warns Mary F.

Laundry facilities: Many travelers need laundry access. "In the clubhouse was a table with unwanted traveler items that you could pick up for 'donation'. Other useful info: Nice library for books & DVDs (borrow or trade), Clean free showers, Laundry room $1.25 ea. washer/dryer (included iron and ironing board)," notes Laura M.
