    Faywood Hot Springs

    Best. Place. Ever.

I was worried that this place wasn’t open due to the fact there were only two reviews and it had been a while since a review. I can happily share that they are open and thriving. I was driving from Gila Cliff Dwellings towards White Sands NP and needed a place to camp. I passed some dispersed camping along the way, but most of the cultivated sites were closed, I’m guessing due to COVID as New Mexico has really cracked down on their camping and I ran into lots of sites that were either closed or only open to residents. Anyway, this place was a STEAL. For only $21 (the typical price of most regular vault toilet and picnic table camp sites), you get heaven on earth. You wouldn’t expect it driving in from either direction, but the sites themselves are extremely shaded and surrounded by trees and as private as possible given the close proximity to neighbors. I stayed at site #47 and even though I was right next to the pools and bathhouse, I couldn’t be seen at all from those places. There’s a potable water tap at EACH campsite, free showers, unlimited 24/7 access to hot springs (clothing required & clothing optional pools), a clubhouse to wash dishes or cook or simply hang out inside in a comfortable chair to read or play games at a table), several bathrooms, phone service (and I didn’t have any driving in or out), peacocks and other wildlife to admire, friendly staff, firewood for sale, labyrinth maze, short scenic trails to watch the sunset and rise, inside facilities, amazing cabins (cheapest one is only $60 and comes with an hour long soak in a private pool which is otherwise $28 for one hour), etc. I could go on and on about this place. The best $21 I have ever spent to spend the night anywhere in my entire life and I am always camping and traveling. A literal oasis. I soaked from 7pm-11pm and had the pools to myself several times on a Sunday evening. Everyone was respectful and there was no sense of party / loud groups as so common is seen at hot springs. Alcohol allowed.

    Gila Hot Springs Ranch

    Close to Gila National Monument

We pulled right into our campsite with hot and cold water at our site. I believe they pull it from the natural hot springs that run beneath the mountain. What a treat! Even if you're not glam camping with a fancy RV it's perfect! How many times have you had to wash your dishes in cold water st a campground. I pull a 37ft gooseneck horse trailer that is now used for camping. No amenities but next best thing to camping in a tent. There is a short walk to the natural hot springs down by the river which is really rustic and relaxing. Especially after climbing the step to the cave/cliff dwellings which are approximately 4 mi further up the road. The restrooms are flush toilets, hot water and a heated floor. Super clean! You can pay a small fee to utilize the "hot tub" which is more modern but the best part is that there's no ceiling! That means as you sit in the hot tub you're privy to the unobstructed view of the Milky Way! Bring a pair of binoculars! We saw several shooting stars and we blown away by the majesty of the heavens which were out "ceiling"!
You can get out of the hot tub, go directly into the restroom/shower. There's a code to enter the two shower/hot tub complex. Great because it keeps unexpected/uninvited guests from entering. We parked at site #08 close to the restrooms. There are hookups for more luxurious RVs. We ran out of propane and were easily accommodated with a fire ring and wood for a small fee. Well worth it! Mornings were in the 30's. It warms up quickly so layering worked for us. The camp host were very accommodating and friendly. I loved watching them round up their herd of horses that roam freely through the campground from time to time. At sunset we watched deer in the pasture grazing happily. Then watched them hop right over the fence one by one! How fun is that! Sunrise and sunsets there cast the most beautiful hues on the rock formations surrounding the area. While walking down to the natural hot springs we were delighted to see sheep who had given birth to a couple sets of black & white faced twins! Too cute for words... Bring a lunch as there are picnic tables next to the creek. Great after soaking in the three separate soaking areas. I was told you could arrange pack trips on horses and explore any of the back country areas. This is love to return and take advantage of! As amazing as it is on foot and in the car it Hass to be mine blowing on the back of a horse! I was also told that they do trail rides for those less experienced riders.

    Lordsburg KOA

    Convenient

This KOA is a convenient pit stop when crossing Southern New Mexico on Rt. 10. The gravél covered acre has been nicely landscaped around the perimeter. Road noise from the highway is heavy. The very clean shower dressing area was barely big enough to turn around in. All amenities are available including propane, which was served up by a grumpy technician.

It’ll be nice when New Mexico opens its’ State Parks to camping again so touring the State becomes possible.

    Rose Valley RV Ranch

    Very spacious and great WiFi

What a great find. This RV Park is still taking reservations during the coronavirus pandemic. We called and got a site for three nights. Sites are long and spacious, level, gravel, wide with shrubbery and some fencing between, adding lots of privacy. Both easy back in and pull through sites. Several large clean showers/bathrooms, laundry and library but no amenities like a pool or hot tub. Did i mention the Excellent cell, and even better fast WiFi, which was very good with multiple access points to connect to through out the park. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Great prices ($34) and we used AARP to get additional discount($16), they also accept Good Sam. Cabins available. We were very happy and recommend it.

    Hidden Valley Ranch RV Resort

Very nice and not expensive, no tent sites

2-night minimum, at the end of a maintained gravel road. I have a camper van, no hookups, and paid $48 for two nights. Large rec room with full kitchen, satellite tv, pool table, and pop/candy/ice cream for sale. Laundry and hot showers. Very friendly and a majority of sites are long time full timers. Cash or check only, no credit cards. Good wi-fi. Propane available. About 10 miles to town and 30 miles to City of Rocks state park.

    Faywood Hot Springs

Clean & Quiet Hot Springs in the Middle of New Mexico Desert

Though about 15 miles off the interstate, this park is WORTH the detour.

RV sites are full hookup and some are easy pull-throughs. Some sites also have nice firepits and shade pavilions. Grounds are well maintained, relaxing, and peaceful. The desert landscape here shines as there is nothing around for miles (very quiet).

DEFINITELY recommend booking a private hot spring tub after dark. The stars are INCREDIBLE. Tubs are the perfect temperature. Overnight guests have access to a 24 hour pool.

Staff are incredibly friendly and a small provisions store onsight sells anything you might've forgotten, plus firewood.

    Lordsburg KOA

    Good RV Park

We stayed the night. Arrived around 11:00. The office is split hours with morning and afternoon. We arrived during the break. Check in was like after hours. Our site was listed and a map was provided. We stopped by the office at 2:00 when the afternoon shift was there. Got the customary sheet/map with door codes and WiFi password. The pool was closed, but hey..... it’s very early spring. Our site had 30 amp service (was listed as 50 amp I believe). Not a problem in March. The WiFi was excellent, the cable has 40 some channels, the provided paper only listed 20 stations. But our Firestick and their WiFi.... we survived. :-) Full hookups, all in good condition. Gravel parking sites. We tried to find something interesting but it’s Lordsburg. We did eat lunch at a very nice diner in town Kranberrys Chattwrbox,

    Silver City RV Park

Cute, Smaller Campground - Fairly priced

This camp ground is conveniently located to Old Town Silver City.

The staff is friendly, the site was clean and level. The bathrooms and showers were clean as well. They were very fairly priced. I booked for one night but may well stay for two.

They have a nice laundry facility. It was a quiet enjoyable stay! I would come back again.

Guide to Hanover

Cabin accommodations near Hanover, New Mexico are situated in the high desert terrain of southwestern New Mexico, at elevations ranging from 4,500 to 6,000 feet. The region experiences warm summers with temperatures averaging 90°F and cool winters with overnight lows frequently dropping below freezing. Winter snow is possible at higher elevations, particularly near the Gila National Forest where many cabin options are located.

What to do

Explore natural hot springs: At Faywood Hot Springs, visitors can access both clothing-required and clothing-optional soaking pools. "The desert landscape here shines as there is nothing around for miles (very quiet). DEFINITELY recommend booking a private hot spring tub after dark. The stars are INCREDIBLE," notes one visitor.

Hike nearby trails: Burro Mountain Homestead offers direct access to forest trails. "Most of the residents there stay for months at a time, it's very quiet and green right now. Deer also roam the area and they came close up multiple times," reports a camper.

Visit historic sites: Short drives from cabin accommodations lead to significant cultural attractions. "Perfect location to leave our trailer and go out exploring! Cliff Dwellings, hot springs, cat walk, farmers market, super cute old fashion bar and opera house Pinos Altos," a guest at Continental Divide Park & Camp shared.

What campers like

Private, spacious sites: Rose Valley RV Ranch provides larger-than-average cabin areas. A camper noted, "Nice widely spaced sites separated by nice juniper evergreens. Place is very tidy and well cared for."

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathrooms and showers. "The bathrooms are large, clean and also private feeling. There is only one dumpster and it was very far from our site," observed one visitor to Rose Valley RV Ranch.

Convenience to town: Silver City RV Park provides easy access to urban amenities while offering cabin comforts. A reviewer appreciated that it's "conveniently located to Old Town Silver City. The staff is friendly, the site was clean and level. The bathrooms and showers were clean as well."

What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Winter visitors should prepare for below-freezing overnight temperatures, while summer visitors should expect intense sun exposure at cabin sites without shade structures.

Reservation requirements: Most cabins require advance booking, especially during spring and fall peak seasons when temperatures are milder. During summer, availability opens up due to high daytime temperatures.

Limited cooking facilities: Most cabins provide basic amenities only. "Sites are long and spacious, level, gravel, wide with shrubbery and some fencing between, adding lots of privacy. Both easy back in and pull through sites. Several large clean showers/bathrooms, laundry and library but no amenities like a pool or hot tub," reports a visitor to Rose Valley RV Ranch.

Access challenges: Some cabins require navigating unpaved roads. "To get here you have to go down 7 miles of dirt road, make sure to follow the signs not your GPS," warns a visitor regarding Burro Mountain Homestead.

Tips for camping with families

Pack entertainment: Due to remote locations, family-friendly cabin options require bringing your own entertainment. "My husband, our 4 year old, and myself stayed 2 nights as there wasn't a lot to do. We got to use his RZR to explore trails but I think we would have been bored without the RZR," noted a family staying at Burro Mountain Homestead.

Consider proximity to attractions: Continental Divide Park & Camp provides a central location for family exploration. "Perfect spot if one wants to park and then drive into the Gila forest or cliff dwellings. Just a few miles north of silver city. Nice drive to get supplies in town," mentions a reviewer.

Check pet policies: Many camping cabins near Hanover allow pets, but specific rules vary. Some cabins restrict certain breeds or charge additional pet fees.

Tips from RVers

Utility access: Hidden Valley Ranch RV Resort provides full hookups for RVs with cabin options nearby. "2-night minimum, at the end of a maintained gravel road. Large rec room with full kitchen, satellite tv, pool table, and pop/candy/ice cream for sale. Laundry and hot showers," notes a visitor.

Internet connectivity: Coverage varies significantly between cabin locations. "Excellent cell, and even better fast WiFi, which was very good with multiple access points to connect to through out the park," reports one camper about Rose Valley RV Ranch.

Dump station availability: Many cabin sites with RV options offer dump stations, but not all. "This is a nice place overlooking Caballo Lake there are only four transient spaces. Most of them are long-term people. The cost is $26.31 if you pay cash and a dollar extra for credit card they have showers bathrooms Wi-Fi full hook up," notes a reviewer at Lakeview RV Park.
