Bowlin's Butterfield Station RV Park

RV travelers heading to or from Arizona often use Bowlin's Butterfield Station RV Park as an overnight stop along Interstate 10. This no-frills facility sits on a washboard dirt road behind a gas station, where campers register for $12 per night. The park consists of 18 sites arranged in a loop, with some pull-through spots accommodating large rigs.

Sites include 30-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, though no 50-amp service is available. A cement gazebo with tables and chairs occupies the center of the loop. The freeway runs along one side of the property while desert and mountain views extend from the other. Laura M. notes the location offers "freeway is on one side and nice mountain/desert view on the other."

The area presents challenges including goat's head sandburs that can harm pets, and road noise from the adjacent interstate. Some long-term residents occupy sites year-round. Despite the basic conditions, repeat visitors appreciate the full hookups at budget rates. For additional overnight options, travelers can explore campsites around Deming.

The facility works best for RV travelers seeking an inexpensive overnight stop with full hookups rather than a destination campground experience.

Campers commonly noted the excellent $12 value for basic full hookups, though the desert location offers minimal amenities beyond utilities. Some road noise from nearby freeway, but most found it acceptable for overnight stays.

Big parking lot and nice store with gas station

I would not say this is a campground. It’s just a big parking lot. There are roads leading into the desert, which I suspect is BLM land which I’m going to investigate more. Anyway, this is a good spot to spend the night.

Not worth $24

Might be worth $12. We did find electric site that worked and a water spigot. The whole area is overrun by goat's head sandburs so keep dogs in. Noisy of course but tolerable. We won't stop again to stay.

Basic, but for only 12 bucks

Just kind of in the middle of the desert there’s several spaces most of them have full hook ups. There’s a few that don’t have a sewer. The area code has now changed from 5:05 to 575 it’s $12.

Third year staying here.

This is the third time I've stayed here on my way to Quartzsite, AZ. This year I managed to get a spot in the first loop. It isn't much but it's full hookups for $12/night. I'll stay again next winter on my annual pilgrimage to rock heaven.

RV park with a campground feel

The Dyrt app shows that the park is at the gas station, but there is a rundown sign on the edge of the lot indicating that the RV park is further down the dirt road (not straight past the gas station but to the right). You register in the gas station for $12/night. Not at all bad for what you get. 30 amp, water and sewer hook ups.  No other amenities. No 50 amp.

Follow the washboard dirt road down and you’ll find 18 sites with some pull thru for large rigs. There is a cement gazebo with a couple of chairs and tables in the middle of the loop. Freeway is on one side and nice mountain/desert view on the other.

For $12 a night with hook ups it is hard to beat. Good place to pull off for the night. Appeared that there were a few residents there but did not feel sketchy or unsafe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What amenities are available at Bowlin's Butterfield Station?

Bowlin's Butterfield Station RV Park offers full hookups (water, electric, and sewer) at most sites, though a few spots don't have sewer connections. The campground is located near a gas station where you register for your stay. The nightly rate is $12, which is quite affordable for the amenities provided. The park has multiple loops with the first loop being preferred by some visitors. Be aware that the area is reportedly overrun with goat's head sandburs, so pet owners should exercise caution when walking dogs.

Are there photos available of Bowlin's Butterfield Station?

Photos of Bowlin's Butterfield Station RV Park can likely be found on The Dyrt's website or mobile app. The campground features basic desert camping with several RV spots in a remote location. Visual elements would show the multiple camping loops, hookup stations, and the surrounding desert landscape. For the most current images, contact the gas station directly where registration occurs. Keep in mind this is a no-frills desert camping experience rather than a resort-style destination, so photos would reflect its utilitarian nature.

What is the history of Bowlin's Butterfield Station?

Bowlin's Butterfield Station takes its name from the historic Butterfield Overland Mail route, an early American stage and mail service that connected the eastern United States with the western territories. The station serves travelers today much as stage stops did in the past - providing essential services in a remote desert location. While not luxurious, it has become a reliable stopping point for RVers making seasonal migrations, particularly those traveling to Arizona destinations like Quartzsite. The area code has changed from 505 to 575, reflecting its continued operation through regional changes.
