    Iron Horse RV Resort

    Professionally kept RV Resort

The  Iron Horse RV Resort in Elko, NV is a real gem in the Nevada desert. It's on the main highway parallel to I-80 on the north end of town. You have to keep your eyes open on the right side to catch the entrance signage. The Resort is tucked down a private road. The office folks were very professional.

This RV Resort was extremely well kept and fairly quiet in the evening. Like many RV Resort these days, there are permanent or transient work related residents that are mostly out the perimeter sites.

All sites have concrete patios, flat and level packed gravel pads, picnic tables and full hookups. There are even a series of mini bungalows.

As you can see, Yoshi agrees!

    Welcome Station RV Park

Beautiful gardens, friendly people, very tight spots designed in the 60’s or so

We were able to to get a pill thru site for our 42 foot toy hauler. First night was great, and we had good views from our windows. The following nights we had neighbors, and slide outs were nearly touching, and require you to (for privacy) keep your shades drawn. The gardens, stream, pond, and very knowledgeable and friendly hosts make up for it.

    Elko RV Park at Ryndon

    Friendly, quite, next to freeway

Spent a week here. Trees are in a lot of the spaces, which is nice to see and have in this part of Nevada. A lot of locals here because of the work in Elko. The staff was very friendly and made you feel very welcome. Restrooms, laundry, 30 and 50 amp services, propane, sewer, and water. We have a 37' Class A, fit in nicely. Not a lot to do, Sinclare gas station with a small grill is not far away. Everything else is in Elko. All in all a nice stay.

    Iron Horse RV Resort

    Nice but noisy

We spent a night in hot August here in our Westfalia camping van. There are no tent sites but cabins and RV spots. Nice bathrooms, showers, a playroom with a ping pong table. The cabins looked attractive. It looked like a lot of people were there long-term. It really is more for RVers and those that want to stay in a cabin. I would recommend, except there is a train that goes by at least two times and blows its horn (this on a Saturday night). The coyotes in the middle of the night were wonderful but the trains weren’t. Also I had trouble getting on the internet with my iPhone 6–couldn’t connect to their WiFi.

    Moose Crossings RV Park

    The views are very nice

Nice, clean and very welcoming hosts. Laundry room consists of one washer and dryer. Bathrooms are a single room (one for men one for woman) one flush toilet and one shower. There is a decent size "dog park" to let your dog go roam off leash. The convenience store has beer, cider, single use laundry fixings, some chips and some basic needs items. As of this writing, our pull through with water and electricity was under $50 for the night. This spot is a great jumping off spot for side by side enthusiasts to go and explore. I believe the host would be happy to point you in the right direction. About an hour easy drive to Craters of the Moon Nat Mon.

Jet Ski Beach — South Fork State Recreation Area

Bird watchers paradise, with amazing views to boot!

Just like the next door campground of Coyote Cove, these shoreline campsites lack a lot of charm. But with your eyes constantly drawn to the Ruby Mountain's striking beauty, who needs anything more than the usual picnic table, sunshade, wind block screen, and fire ring. The pit toilets were clean and tidy, but there was no drinking water available at this campground.

The Jet Ski Beach is a great beach for swimming, launching canoes, kayaks, small fishing boats, or personal watercraft. The boat launch and boat trailer parking lot is in the nearby Coyote Cove campground. The area offers opportunities for water sports of all kinds, hiking & mountain biking along many trails, or just sitting by the shore with a line in the water. Bird life is abundant in this area, with many species stopping along their migration route. We saw Loons, Dowitchers, White Pelicans, Coots and even the shy Hermit Thrush.

The closest town with services is Spring Creek a short 12 miles away, a dozen more miles northwest is the city of Elko which has all the usual suburban amenities and big box stores and interstate 80 running through the middle of town. We had good mobile service and data throughout the campground. Showers, water and a dump station are available at the developed campground across the lake, though it is only open from Spring until Fall, depending upon weather conditions.

    Welcome Station RV Park

    Beautiful little place!

What a beautiful little place! Green grass all over, and big shady trees. Called in just before closing and they had a site available for the night. When we arrived, they came out to meet us and escorted us to our site: pull through, full hookups. Very friendly. Sites are long and narrow, room for the slide but you’re in your neighbor’s picnic table area. Can hear the freeway noise but it’s fairly constant so it was easy to tune out. Would definitely stay here again.

Guide to Lamoille

Dispersed camping options around Lamoille, Nevada offer alternatives to established RV parks. Located near the Ruby Mountains at approximately 5,900 feet elevation, this region experiences hot, dry summers and cold winters with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. Most dispersed camping locations near Lamoille require high-clearance vehicles and proper waste management equipment.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: South Fork State Recreation Area provides access to trophy-sized bass and trout fishing with a daily limit of one fish. East Campground offers convenient trail access to the reservoir. "Make sure to bring your fishing poles because chances are you will catch a good-sized trout," notes one visitor about the fishing conditions.

Mountain exploration: The Ruby Mountains provide hiking trails within a short drive from camping areas. "Angel Lake is a beautiful little reason to stop over and include a quick hike," mentions a visitor staying at Angel Lake RV Park, referring to the mountain lake about 20 minutes from Wells.

Local cuisine: Try authentic Basque food in Elko, about 20 minutes from Lamoille. "See Elko Star Hotel for a real live basque meal (a once in a lifetime meal) if you are lucky," recommends a camper who stayed at Welcome Station RV Park. The region's Basque heritage offers unique dining experiences not found in many other areas.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Iron Horse RV Resort maintains high standards for their amenities. "The main office has a nice game room, laundry facilities and ultra clean bathrooms and showers," writes one reviewer about their stay in Elko.

Budget-friendly options: Some parks offer excellent value with full hookups at reasonable rates. "Fourteen dollars was well worth the price. The spots have 30/50amp hookups, potable water, and sewer. The showers were hot with amazing pressure," notes a visitor at Valley View RV Park.

Landscaping: Several parks offer green spaces uncommon in the high desert environment. "This place is just fantastic! It literally seems to be an oasis in the desert. Super green with big shade trees. There are two creeks running through the property," mentions a visitor describing Welcome Station RV Park in Wells.

What you should know

Train noise: Railroad tracks near many RV parks cause noise disturbances. "It's right off the highway and train tracks, where conductors apparently believe the only way to announce their presence is with a constant, valley-echoing blare of the horn," reports a visitor at Elko KOA Journey.

Weather considerations: Temperature fluctuations can be extreme, especially in shoulder seasons. "Temps dropped to the mid-teens so be prepared if tent camping," warns a reviewer about their spring experience at East Campground.

Cell service: Connectivity varies significantly between providers and locations. "Good Verizon LTE. Poor T-Mobile," notes a camper at Valley View RV Park, which matches the general pattern throughout the region.

Tips for camping with families

Reservoir recreation: South Fork State Recreation Area provides family-friendly water activities. "Plenty of space for the kids to run around and bike around the campsite. Bathrooms were very clean and had hot showers," shares a family that stopped at the reservoir.

Space considerations: Look for campgrounds with adequate room between sites. "Sites are very well spaced apart and quite large," notes a visitor about the East Campground, making it suitable for families needing extra space.

Amenities access: Some parks offer access to additional facilities. "They offer a 20% off coupon to use at the Hilton Garden Inn restaurant. Their Gym and business office is also available for use if you stay at the camp ground," mentions a visitor at Iron Horse RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Late arrivals: RV camping near Lamoille, Nevada often requires planning ahead. "We came through at 10pm on a Saturday and they had zero vacancy. Looks like after hours registration is possible if they aren't booked up," cautions an RVer about Iron Horse RV Resort.

Site spacing: Mountain Shadows RV Park in Wells provides adequate room for larger rigs. "This is an older campground. Service was friendly. The price was the best on our trip! Gravel sites," reports an RV camper.

Hookup reliability: Water pressure can vary between parks. "Low water pressure. Good Verizon LTE," notes a long-term RVer at Valley View RV Park, highlighting the importance of monitoring utility quality when selecting a site.
