Fishing enthusiasts and water recreation lovers will find Angel Lake Campground positioned at 8,400 feet elevation in the East Humboldt Range, about 20 minutes uphill from Interstate 80. The drive requires navigating a steep, winding mountain road that Mark M. notes "can be quite steep so just a few campers/trailers, no mega RVs." This access limitation keeps larger RVs away while accommodating units up to 35 feet.
The campground sits adjacent to a stocked alpine lake where campers report catching fish regularly. Multiple reviewers mention successful fishing, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding opportunities directly accessible from camp. Sites are relatively close together with limited shade from shrubby aspens, though natural terrain and vegetation provide some separation. Several campers highlight sites 19 and 22 as first-come, first-served options, with site 22 positioned right along the creek.
The high elevation location brings cool temperatures even in summer, with wildflowers blooming through July and occasional snow visible on surrounding peaks. Vault toilets are maintained regularly, though drinking water availability varies by season. Campers exploring the broader region can find camping near Wells for additional options. The alpine setting attracts weekend crowds, so weekday visits tend to be quieter for those seeking a mountain escape from Nevada's desert heat.
