Nice high altitude campground off I-80

Stayed in site 13 which was just enough driveway space and able to level with chocks. Beautiful view to the East. Quiet while we were here. Road in can be quite steep so just a few campers/trailers, no mega RVs.

While shrubby aspens mean no shade, there is quite a bit of privacy. Lake is nice and easily accessible from campground.

Sites 19 and 22 are FCFS and quite nice, 22 sits right on the creek and 19 doesn't have a concrete parking barrier so better access to site for vehicle. Decent views. Site 12 has water spigot right alongside and decent views. Site XX has VERY limited parking, tent only.

Food aside: Dinner was freeze-dried mango sticky rice with pre-cooked and reheated chicken with roasted hatch green chiles. Took 35 min to cook, but yum! Low/medium FQ (fart quotient). Breakfast was omelet with cheese, hash brown, bacon and green chile burritos. Dinner was Sprouts Hatch chile mac and cheese with extra cheese and jerky, including hatch jerky.

Fun

This is such a beautiful spot, the drive up the mountain is a little nerve racking with a large truck & trailer, but camping was nice. If you don’t mind a little hike, the lake is worth walking to. Lots of fishing and kayaking too.

Beautifull sites viewing the lake and falls.

Went up to get out of the heat and was not disappointed! Great hiking, fishing, and kayaking at the lake. Very busy on weekends, somewhat noisy (the sites are pretty close together) not very many sites for larger rvs. No trash receptacle (that we could find)

Amazing setting 20 minutes from I-80

Water is usually available, but not during out stay. Amazing setting with lots of hiking nearby. About halfway between Lake Tahoe and Yellowstone.

Gorgeous lake up in the mountains

Surprisingly beautiful site, right outside of Wells, in Northern Nevada.   The actual camp sites are small and relatively close to one another, but it's beautiful up in the mountains the lake is absolutely gorgeous.  Good place to fish, swim or kayak.

Breathtaking views, great camping

It’s a windy road with a dead drop on the outside lane to a very high canyon with no guard rail... but it was SO worth it! The campsites are open, but separated by bushes and the hill that they’re naturally built on, bathrooms are very clean and the view is just out of this world.

There were a bunch of people fishing in the early hours while we headed to the small hike up to the waterfall above Angel Lake. There were other trailheads that we didn’t get to as well, but hope to explore on future trips!

The lake itself was cool, clear, and refreshing to swim in! Many were kayaking and paddle boarding, and it was a relaxing environment all around with very friendly people. We can’t wait to go back!

An amazing experience

This was a one night stop on a road trip, but we had an incredible experience and plan to return. After driving through the desert for most of the day, we were amazed to climb into the mountains and be in an alpine environment. The elevation is 8400 feet, and the views are incredible. There were so many wildflowers in bloom, in such artfully arranged groups of color and form. The sunset was unreal, with the sinking sun illuminating the clouds from underneath. And the stars - oh my god, I've never seen so many stars. We do a lot of camping, and this is at least in my top 10 of awe-inspiring overnight stays.

There are cattle grazing in the area, and our dog couldn't resist rolling in fresh cow poop. Luckily I was prepared to give him a bath and wash his harness, and the surroundings were so stunning that I couldn't get mad at either the dog or the cows. There was no drinking water available. The vault toilets were clean and maintained. There were mosquitoes, so be prepared.

Beautiful, unexpected gem

about twenty minutes off of hwy 80 uphill all the way. completely shocked to see a beautiful small lake stocked with fish. backdrop to the lake is a beautiful mountain with a little snow left on it on July 1st. caught numerous fish. vault toilets and right now there is no running water so bring your own. campgrounds feel pretty private because of small trees but not a lot of shade. lake also great for SUP and kayak. small campsites but I think this is a gem for a road trip stopover along hwy 80.
