Bowman Lake Campground in Glacier National Park permits pets on leashes in developed areas, including campsites and along roads, though dogs are prohibited on trails and in backcountry areas. Several campgrounds near Polebridge accommodate pets, including North Fork Flathead River dispersed camping and Kintla Lake Campground, both offering primitive camping experiences with basic amenities like vault toilets. West Glacier KOA Resort provides more extensive pet amenities with two separate dog parks, one spacious enough for active dogs to run freely. Big Creek Campground in Flathead National Forest allows pets at tent, RV, and glamping sites with picnic tables and fire rings. The bumpy gravel road to Bowman Lake is worth navigating for the serenity and crystal-clear waters where pets can enjoy shoreline access.

Glacier National Park's pet regulations require dogs to remain on leashes no longer than six feet at all times in developed areas. Visitors camping with pets should be aware of wildlife concerns, particularly bears, which are common throughout the region. Pet owners must properly store food and pet supplies in bear-proof containers provided at established campgrounds like Kintla Lake. The Polebridge Mercantile, located about 6 miles from Bowman Lake, offers supplies and necessities for campers and their pets. Temperatures can fluctuate dramatically in this mountainous region, requiring pet owners to prepare for both hot days and cold nights. Most dispersed camping areas along North Fork Flathead River allow pets but lack designated pet amenities, making it essential to pack waste bags and portable water bowls. Campers report that the dog park at West Glacier KOA provides welcome exercise opportunities after long drives.

      Tuchuck

      Quiet

Rough road going west from Polebridge not suitable for RvS. Much better road eastbound from Eureka side. Nice camp for a tent camp or camper. Creek close. Beautiful mountains getting there from Eureka

      Tuchuck

      Quiet spot by creek

This is a great campsite.  The pit toilet is clean and it is set up as a horse camp.  Ramps for loading horses and trough for feeding.  Plenty of space for tents and small campers but as noted before, the road from Polebridge is a little tough for RVs.

      Tuchuck

      4x4 Recommended

Tuchuck campground is a perfect location for an overnight camp when traveling from Polebridge MT to Eureka MT. The road is well marked but does pass thru several locations that have been covered with rock slides due to recent forest fires. Road is single track in spots but does pass thru several remote locations. Camp ground has a creek running to the south side with a good amount camping locations. Fire rings and benches are available in most spots.

Bowman Lake Campground — Glacier National Park

      Worth the Bumpy Ride

Bowman lake is beautiful, and the bumpy ride on the gravel road is a small price to pay for the serenity of reaching the finger lakes in the northwest of Glacier NP. The campground is noted as 'primitive' on the NP map -- this label along with the tale of the bumpy road to get there keeps the less serious campers, trailers and RV's away. And although it is "primitive" by name, it simply means that there may not be a campground host, and there is not potable water access.

All of the campsites are easy access to the crystal clear lake with the mountain backdrop. Lots of trees for hammocking. Plenty of people carry in their own kayaks and SUPs.

Another amazing nugget on the journey to Bowman lake is the outpost of Polebridge. This tiny outpost has a mercantile with the most amazing baked goods, and sells all kinds of craft beers, veggies, and whatever necessities you may need for your camping adventure. There is also a small saloon. It's about 6 miles on gravel road from Polebridge to Bowman, but you'll fall in love with the little place, and you'll be glad you don't have to go all the way to Kalispel if you run out of beer.

      Upper Whitefish Campground

      Bestill My Heart

When I need to disconnect from the world, be surrounded by the beauty of forests and crystal clear water, this is my sanctuary. It has become busier over the years but locals and new visitors alike will find newly expanded and leveled sites just off the lake and 13 coveted on water sites. There are vault facilities but I take those with a grain of salt, it’s camping, in the mountains, it’s the give and take. I drive a 24’ vintage RV so I know that I can literally pack in, pack out.

There are two main access roads if you are coming from the backside of Whitefish Lake or from Highway 93 at Olney, Red Meadow Road can also be accessed from Polebridge, Eureka or from across the Canadian Boarder. So many amazing trails and back roads to explore. The lookouts are always worth the effort! The road from Whitefish Lake is rough and only graded as needed. When coming from Olney the lower part of the road is washboarded but not horrible. Once you reach mile marker 9 at the Lower Whitefish Lake Road cut-across they are running active logging so the road is graded and oiled. Before the Lake is not oiled and areas can be spotty but for the most part is one of the nicer back country roads I have taken.

The Lake itself is enchanting. The water so clear you can see the bottom as the fish swim by. You will often encounter deer, moose and of course the occasional bear. My favorite thing to do is float in my kayak and watch the clouds pass along the mountainside. I’ve been coming here since I was a child and I enjoy sharing the beauty of this area with my family and friends.

The RV Resort at Indian Springs Montana

Best kept secret in Northern Montana

I have stayed at this new RV Resort twice and love it.  The spaces are large, the bathrooms and laundry room are clean, they have a super large dog park and the views are unmatched.  It is also next door to a beautiful golf course. They also feature a playground, volleyball, community fire pit and trails close by.  If you are traveling to northwestern Montana you won't be disappointed.

North American RV Park & Yurt Village

Great location, convenient, clean and friendly!

We stayed here for 4 nights. Only 5 minutes away from West Glacier Park entrance. Close by is a zip line attraction with a blow up slide in water for the little ones and bounce house obstacle with a slide. Also an adventure park that has go karts, bumper cars, lazy river etc. Great location with so much to do outside the park. We had a corner spot which I really liked for some privacy. Each site has its own fire pit which was nice. Wi-Fi in my opinion worked great. Has a dog park and a little playground for kids. Laundry room and bath houses were very clean. Also has an arcade and loved how they use honesty policy during closed hours where you can pick up firewood or ice and pay the next morning:) I definitely recommend and will come back for another Montana adventure.

West Glacier RV & Cabin Resort

Love that they have 2 dog parks! WiFi is great, campsites are spacious, amenities are easily accessible and you’re a close walk to the village and entrance of the park.

    Guide to Polebridge

Camping options near Polebridge, Montana sit at elevations between 3,500-4,000 feet with summer temperatures typically ranging from 40-85°F. This remote northern section of Glacier National Park features some of the least crowded campgrounds in the region, accessible via unpaved roads. Nighttime temperatures can drop dramatically even in summer, requiring campers to prepare for conditions that feel more like fall camping.

    What to do

Hike Bowman Lake trails: A 26.2-mile round trip trail offers views of Bowman Lake and surrounding mountains. "Bowman Lake has a wonderful hiking trail (26.2 mile round trip) located here. The road leading up the campground is narrow and trailers are restricted from use," notes Brian N. from Bowman Lake Campground.

Watch wildlife at dawn: Early risers spot more animals around Polebridge. "I couldn't sleep any more so I got up at 4:30, made coffee, and walked down to the lake about 5 am. It was like a painting," shares Max K., who also spotted "multiple deer, various birds, a grizzly on way in" during his Bowman Lake stay.

Kayak on calm waters: Several lakes in the area offer excellent paddling opportunities. "We also really enjoyed the lake. It was gorgeous. One of my friends has a kayak, so we took turns taking it out on the water," writes Kayla K. about her experience at Bowman Lake, adding that "the lake was so calm and relaxing."

    What campers like

Stargazing opportunities: The remote location creates ideal night sky viewing. "At night, it clears out and that's when the magic happens. The stars are so bright and the Milky Way seems so close you could touch it," shares Denyel B. about North Fork Flathead River dispersed camping.

Crystal-clear river access: The Flathead River system provides swimming and cooling opportunities. "The River was perfect for cooling off after being in the sun," reports Nancy from North Fork Flathead River, while Jeff K. notes, "We loved the river and the night sky. It is quiet enough so we loved that."

Spacious, private sites: Many campgrounds offer room between sites. "Spacious and private spots. Easy access to Glacier from the rare, unused Flathead river entrance," writes Dirty E. about Big Creek Campground, which features well-separated sites under tree cover.

    What you should know

Roads require preparation: Access roads challenge many vehicles. "The road to get to this spot is 4ish miles of unpaved rocky road. I'm assuming the people who frequent this road are used to it, but they are flying down the road," cautions brendan at North Fork Flathead River. Consider timing: "Best time to visit this camping location is duding the months of September and October" for Bowman Lake, advises Brian N.

Weather fluctuations: Temperature swings demand preparation. "You'll be a high elevation so be ready for cooler nights. I used my 0-degree sleeping bag, and that worked great," recommends GoWhereYouAreDraw N. from Bowman Lake.

Limited services: Most campgrounds have minimal facilities. "Campground has a host for the summer and is well maintained. You need to arrive early to find a site as there are a limited number of sites," explains Stephanie S. about Kintla Lake Campground.

    Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly options are plentiful: Several dog friendly campgrounds near Polebridge welcome pets with limitations. "This is a good spot for dog families who want to get out on area hikes," says Janet R. about Glacier Campground, adding that while "dogs aren't allowed on hiking trails within Glacier National Park itself," there are "National Forest trails in the area that dogs ARE welcome to hike on."

Consider dedicated pet facilities: West Glacier offers specialized pet amenities. Glacier Campground "is pet friendly, they even allowed our dog to stay in a camper cabin with us, which many don't," explains Janet R., making it suitable for families with dogs who want the cabin experience near Polebridge.

Bring proper storage: Wildlife precautions are essential with children and pets. Annie C. notes at Bowman Lake: "I was surprised there was only one bear box for the whole campground to share instead of one at each site. Especially after seeing a leather deposit of bear scat on the Bowman Lake trail."

    Tips from RVers

Know RV restrictions: Many campgrounds limit RV access. "No trailers or campers allowed" at Kintla Lake due to road conditions, warns Donna B., while Carmen H. confirms: "This is not for trailers or RV's due to the road in, but tent campers and truck campers are fine."

Check site dimensions: Spaces vary significantly between campgrounds. At Middle Fork Flathead River Dispersed, "There's only 3 spots for camping in a big rig, but there is parking for people in tents," observes brendan, while the road has "huge puddles" and is a "very tight fit for truck and trailer for sure in a lot of the spots," according to Terrie L.

Consider alternative access: Some RVers report success with high-clearance vehicles. "There were 3 spots with fire pits, and a lot for tent campers to park their car," notes clara M. about North Fork Flathead, while "large 30+' motorhomes" were observed by Joey L., who added "I'm in a camper van and had no issues accessing the site. Dirt road, but very passable leading here."
