Nice big space

The campground is clean and green. Virtually every site is a pull thru. Only thing that keeps it from being a 5 star - I can hear all the traffic coming and going on the main road.

Great location, walk to Lake McDonald

What's better than camping in a National Park? Camping with friends/family in a National Park! Apgar Group camp is in a great location and allows people to camp together vs the dreaded task of trying to find multiple sites close together. This is a great rustic campground.

Breath taking

One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited. But be prepared to reserve your spot months in advance.

Large group sites in beautiful area

Group sites: you must have at least 10 people to stay here. Booked for a family reunion, was a nice layout. Site is wooded and shady. Facilities modern but still basic. Tons to do nearby for all ages and interests, including ranger programs short walk away. Really memorable trip. Highly recommended.

The West Entrance to Glacier

Apgar Village is a little tourist town in the West end of Glacier National Park. The campground gets BUSY in the summer when the Going-to-the-Sun is open. There is running water, nearby food and shops at this campground.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make reservations for Apgar Campground in Glacier National Park?

Reservations for Apgar Group Sites are essential and should be made months in advance due to extremely high demand. The campground is very popular, with many visitors booking well ahead of the peak season when Going-to-the-Sun Road is open. The reservation system can be accessed through the National Park Service website or recreation.gov. Be aware that some people reportedly reserve sites just to secure park access without actually camping, which further limits availability. For the best chance of securing a spot, plan your trip early and book as soon as the reservation window opens.

What amenities and facilities are available at Apgar Campground?

Apgar Campground offers modern yet basic facilities to enhance your camping experience. The campground provides running water, clean sites, and pull-through spaces at virtually every site. Facilities are well-maintained though intentionally rustic to preserve the national park atmosphere. The campground is characterized by tall trees that create ample shade and reasonable site spacing for a decent level of privacy. Nearby Apgar Village offers additional amenities including food options and shops, making it convenient to purchase supplies or grab a meal. The only minor drawback is some traffic noise from the main road that can occasionally be heard from certain sites.

What activities are available at the Apgar Amphitheater in Glacier National Park?

The Apgar Amphitheater hosts regular ranger programs that are just a short walk from the group campsites. These educational presentations cover topics like local wildlife, geology, park history, and conservation efforts. The amphitheater serves as a gathering place for campers to learn about Glacier National Park while enjoying evening programs under the stars. Beyond the amphitheater activities, the surrounding area offers abundant recreational opportunities for all ages and interests, making it an ideal location for families and groups seeking both educational and outdoor adventures within one of America's most spectacular national parks.

What group camping options are available at Apgar Campground?

Apgar Group Sites in Glacier National Park offers dedicated camping areas designed specifically for larger parties. A minimum of 10 people is required to book these sites, making them perfect for family reunions, group gatherings, or organized outings. The group sites are situated in a wooded, shady area that provides a pleasant camping environment while maintaining the rustic national park experience. The layout is well-designed to accommodate multiple tents and facilitate group activities, allowing friends and family to camp together rather than struggling to reserve multiple adjacent sites in the main campground.
