    Itch-Kep-Pe Park

Nice City Park along the Yellowstone River

We spent 9 days here (8/25-9/2) to work in nearby Billings (40 miles east) before heading to Washington State. The park was quiet and clean and we had no issues with neighbors at all. This is a city park that runs on donations. A nice guy from the local government stopped by once to give us a sheet with the rules and city ordinances.

Completely dry camping, although we were able to fill our tank at the spigot on the side of the restroom building. Grass or gravel sites with fire rings and picnic tables, with a mix of back in and pull-through spaces. A lot of space for big rigs and tenters alike. Firewood was available near the dumpsters in the middle of the park.

The nearest grocery store is a few miles away in town and the laundromat was small but clean. A farmer’s market was set up in the park by the railroad tracks on Thursdays (4:00-6:30) that had everything from fresh veggies and homemade goodies, as well as blankets and jewelry and a couple food trucks.

There is no dump station in the park, but there is one at the nearby Cenex station for a $5 charge during business hours. Otherwise the folks at Mountain View RV Park on the other side of the interstate will let you dump and fill water for $5.

Full Verizon signal allowed me to work from our rig for a couple days when I didn’t need to be in Billings.

    Good spot near yellowstone

This is an independent campground about an hour from the north entrance of Yellowstone. The spots are reasonably level and about half and half pull-through vs back in. They use a larger size gravel on the roads so there is very little dust. The staff is very attentive and there seems to be good security at the campground. The hookups are well placed and everything worked well. Bathrooms and showers are reasonably clean and seem to be cleaned frequently. Nice fenced in dog area. All the spots have nice new plastic picnic tables. No fire rings. Grounds are very well cared for, grass is in great shape. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby.

A few things to be aware of:

    • The road in is a bit bumpy and trees on both sides, so be careful coming in if you have a big rig
    • No wood camp fires
    • There is no tent camping allowed here

Spring Creek Campground & Trout Ranch

    Nice park

Nice park. Sites are okay. Ours was one of the better ones. Spacious and level gravel pad with large grassy area on patio side. Our site was 50 amp full hookups. Many weren’t. Couple of small fishing ponds. Campground is situated on Boulder River. Office staff was friendly. Laundry facility was clean but dated. (Harvest gold dryers from the 70’s dated). Great proximity to downtown big timber, MT. One grocery store (IGA). 30 min from Livingston.

    Chief Joseph City Park

Great park to get some rest!!

Great small town RV park. $20.00 per night with electric. No sewer or dump station. Water on site but not to RV pads. Level, asphalt pads are all pull-through and long enough for my truck and 32 foot 5th wheel. 50/30 amp hook ups. Park is attached to a rodeo grounds so you might check availability on the weekends. We were only going to stay one night but the park is so nice that we stayed another two nights.

    Itch-Kep-Pe Park

    Hidden gem in Columbus Wyoming

Clean quiet at night. Family and pet friendly. Large campsites each with a picnic table and fire pit. Public toilets non-threaded water spigot near the entrance. Water quality is great. 64 outlets on four different light posts near communal bathroom and shelter area. With a long enough extension cord you might be able to get to your campsite but I doubt it. Close to the river. I feel safe here. I got here on August 30th and stay till September 3rd that's why I chose month of September.

Spring Creek Campground & Trout Ranch

Love the Sound of the River

We followed our RV GPS right to the campground (CG), which is a favorite of ours for a two-night stay. Check-in was quick and easy. We proceeded to Deluxe River site 18 with 30 AMP and water. You can angle the rig in as you want to get set up on the wide pad area. The utilities were in the middle of the gravel pad, and we could park where our 9’ patio could come out to enjoy the gorgeous view of the river. They have free WiFi, but it was not very fast, and we used our Starlink. There are mature trees here, but we got a clear shot north for Starlink. We got 3 bars on Verizon. The water pressure was okay. Talking to our next-door neighbors, who have stayed here over the years, this CG is under new management by a couple who also owned a KOA in Billings. There are already changes, such as getting rid of the cabins and putting in some new FHU sites. There may be plans for new cabins in the future. We also noticed that from staying here in September 2019, the ponds are now state-stocked, and you need a Montana fishing license following regular fishing regulations versus no-license pay for the trout you catch. They also have a military and senior discount, but this wasn't mentioned/given when we made our reservations online. We mentioned it to the lady who checked us in, but she didn't offer to refund us the discount like other CG's have done in the past. There is no dog park, but there’s plenty of area to walk your dog. Someday we are going to plan a longer than two-day stay so we can further explore the area and fly fish the river.

Gallatin National Forest Snowbank Group Campground

Dry Camping in a Wilderness Setting

Snowbank is an excellent off-the-grid semi-developed and hosted FS campground.  Spacious and private sites better for small RVs, trailers, and all tents.  Clean vault toilets, bear-proof storage boxes, and plenty of community water spigots.  Decent picnic tables and fire rings at each site.  No hookups to my knowledge.  The campground is on recreation.gov and sites are reservable.  Access to a great trail and FS road from campground, other hiking nearby.  Also, a 20 minute drive to Chico Hot Springs Resort and Day Spa (food, bar, soaking).  Expect to see wildlife, and this is grizzly country so proper food storage and best practices are required by law.  No cell service.  Excellent spot before or after visiting Yellowstone.

Guide to Greycliff

RV camping near Greycliff, Montana offers access to outdoor activities along the Yellowstone River corridor at elevations between 3,800-4,200 feet. Summer temperatures typically range from 45°F at night to 85°F during day, with afternoon thunderstorms common in July and August. Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally from April through October, with limited winter facilities available.

What to do

Riverside relaxation: The Yellowstone River provides opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing at Yellowstone Edge RV Park, where sites are located just feet from the water. "We were the site closest to the Yellowstone River with views of the mountains and river. There was about 15 feet from our back door, absolutely beautiful," notes a recent camper.

Prairie dog watching: Within walking distance of Big Timber-Greycliff area, Prairie Dog Town State Park offers a unique wildlife viewing experience. "Be sure to stop by at Prairie Dog Town State Park (walkable distance from campground). It's simple but a cute place to watch prairie dogs and check out the local flora," writes one visitor.

Scenic drives: Use Perry's RV and Campgrounds in Red Lodge as a base for exploring nearby mountain passes. "Our recommendations for the area are to spend one day driving Beartooth Scenic Byway and then crossover Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. Stop at the lookouts!" suggests a family who stayed at the campground.

What campers like

Private bathroom facilities: Osen's RV Park near Livingston features individual bathroom and shower spaces. "Great spot with level gravel parking, private bath and shower, full hookups. Good WiFi, T-Mobile 5g 2bars," reports one satisfied guest.

Grassy sites: Many campers appreciate the well-maintained green spaces at RV parks near Greycliff. "All sites are gravel, the grass areas are really green and well taken care of. Great dog play area, large," notes a visitor at Osen's RV Park.

Creek-side camping: For a more natural setting, tent sites at Perry's RV and Campgrounds offer a creek-side experience. "The facility is awesome and the sites at the bottom of the hill by the creek are amazing. Makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere," says one reviewer.

What you should know

Seasonal availability: Most campgrounds in the Greycliff area have limited operating seasons. Osen's RV Park operates from "Apr 15 - Oct 10," while Perry's RV and Campgrounds runs from "May 15-Oct 1." Plan accordingly if traveling in shoulder seasons.

Highway noise considerations: Several campgrounds in the region experience road noise. One camper at Livingston RV Park & Campground mentioned, "We pulled in just after dark after other plans fell through and were assigned to an overflow spot next to a trailer that appeared to be a permanent resident of the park. It wasn't a good sleep, as there was traffic noise from the highway."

Weather preparedness: Montana weather can change rapidly, especially in mountain-adjacent areas. "The mosquitoes in the area can carry you away so prepare your campsite for that," warns a visitor at Perry's RV and Campgrounds.

Connectivity quality: Working RVers appreciate reliable internet access. "We had 4 bars each on both Verizon and T-Mobile, and the CG Wi-Fi clocked in at 26.5 Mbps down and 11.9 Mbps up, pretty solid for a small CG," reports an Old West RV Park visitor.

Local discounts: Some campgrounds offer special arrangements with nearby businesses. At Old West RV Park, a camper mentioned walking distance to "the Waterhole Saloon with good drinks & food—you get a 10% discount on food and drinks when you mention you're staying at the campground."
