Cahokia RV Parque and Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park both accommodate pets at their full-hookup sites, providing practical options for campers traveling with dogs near University City, Missouri. Cahokia offers concrete pads with fire pits and picnic tables where pets can remain with their owners, though leashed walks are required around the property. The park maintains a clean environment with trash bins throughout for convenient pet waste disposal. Casino Queen RV Park provides a fenced perimeter with a dedicated pet relief area along the fence line, though the area consists primarily of paved spaces with minimal grass. Both locations offer cabin options for travelers without RVs, and neither charges excessive pet fees compared to similar facilities in the region. Sites at both parks accommodate larger rigs, providing sufficient space for pets and gear despite the relatively close spacing between campsites. The grounds at Cahokia remain well-maintained despite frequent dog traffic.

Most pet-friendly campgrounds in the area restrict dogs to designated areas, with the perimeter at Casino Queen serving as the primary dog walking zone. Daily security patrols at Casino Queen provide added safety when walking pets after dark. Nearby St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park features additional outdoor recreation opportunities with pets, including water access. Campers should note the urban setting of both main parks – Casino Queen experiences frequent train noise throughout the night that may disturb sensitive pets, while Cahokia's roadside location means traffic noise is common. Both parks maintain paved walking areas that stay relatively clean for pet walks, though neither offers substantial natural terrain for dogs to explore. The BBQ restaurant at Cahokia permits leashed dogs in outdoor seating areas when weather permits. Most visitors report feeling secure with pets despite the urban locations, with gated entry at Casino Queen providing additional security.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA

Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

      KOA in Eureka, MO

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

LEDLENDSER MH10 and KOA Route 66 review

      Campground review:

Once googling local campsites at the last minute for a weekend getaway with both dogs, we came route 66 campground. They have a dog park, rv hookup sites, electric tent sites and primitive sites. We stayed at a primitive tent site with both dogs. Site t13, which unfortunately was one of the very few camp spots with zero trees so we're unable to use our hammock. (Most of the other sites had great trees for hammock setups). Other amenities on the campground included a heated pool, bike rentals, basketball courts, a country store for firewood, supplies, and gift shop. Needless to say this was not a "roughing" it type campground. For the dogs though, we were right across from the creek to take them down to play. Also, kids were catching crawdads! Great campsite that is pet friendly and very family friendly!

      Product review:

      Ledlenser mh10

This headlamp first of all comes with a 7 year warrantly(must register the product)! On top of that all these features: a rechargeable battery with a USB port. Rapid focus system with 2 tough button on headlamp to adjust lighting. The strap is very easy to adjust and fit to comfort, lightweight despise the battery pack attached to the headlamp. The lighting is phenomenal! You also get a green and red additional glass lense that you can screw into the front of your lense for any activity and not disturb others with a bright white light. Me, howsoever, I was able to on this camping trip, use the headlamp to continue to play a game of cornhole... and winter, might I add.. thanks to my headlamp for optimal vision;). Included are some pictures of how bright and fitting the headlamp is. I was highly impressed! Never once did it slip... which I have struggled with in many headlamps that it seems the lamp is too heavy and slowly makes its way down your forehead. The Ledlenser stays in place and is very comfortable! Also, doesn't leave that weird band line on your head... at least I didn't experience it like I have on others. Very impressed overall!

      Lots to do

There is lots to do at this park. There is a pool, bike rentals, dog park, movie night, basketball court, and more. You can bring your RV, travel trailer, tent camp, or stay in a cabin. Most of the sites are in the shade and are fairly level. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. They have Ele/water and Ele/water/sewer sites. It is close to train tracks, but I only heard the train once at night. It’s close to Six Flags, shopping, and restaurants. They even have a cute caboose cabin you can stay in.

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Really nice overnight stay

We spent one night here (May 11, 2022). This is a very nice easy access CG with wide, spacious, and level pull through and back-in gravel sites (25 paved). There are a lot of activities available: archery, boating, fishing, dog park, biking (wish I brought my mtn bike), walking, playground, horseshoes and volleyball. We did not have time to visit the clubhouse and did not make use of the bathrooms or showers. It is a great base camp to visit the area. The WiFi was great as was cell phone reception. We would definitely stay here again.

    Guide to University City

University City area camping offers convenient access to St. Louis attractions while providing natural getaways within 30-45 minutes of the metropolitan area. Most campsites are situated at elevations between 400-650 feet, creating mild temperature variations between urban and outlying campgrounds. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-95°F with humidity levels often exceeding 70%, making water access particularly valuable for campers with dogs.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park provides multiple options for anglers. "You can see all kinds of wildlife in and around the lake- deer, bald eagles, pelicans, ducks, snakes," notes one visitor. The park also rents "paddleboats, kayaks, and canoes in addition to different kinds of bikes."

Archery practice: Outdoor enthusiasts can practice archery at dedicated facilities within a short drive of most campgrounds. "The park has an archery range" at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park, making it an excellent option for those looking to practice during their camping trip.

Historic exploration: Visit the historic district in St. Charles after camping at Sundermeier RV Park. "You can literally be parked right at the Katy Trail. Through the gate at the rear of the campground, and you can bike for miles. Easy ride in to St. Charles a wonderful historic river town on the Missouri River," reports one camper.

    What campers like

Proximity to attractions: Many campers appreciate the short drive to St. Louis landmarks from Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park. "Close to the arch, that's why we chose this place to stay overnight. Lots of noise from the interstate and there's a train that goes by a couple times in the middle of the night, but the view of the arch and downtown St Louis and access to both is fantastic."

Budget-friendly options: Horseshoe Lake State Park Campground offers exceptional value. One visitor noted it's "Great spot in a beautiful area close to St. Louis. No power but access to drinking water and waste water dump for just 8$." Another camper called it a "5 Star" experience, praising the "Self service pay system makes it simple, easy, and fast."

Quiet settings: Despite proximity to urban areas, several campgrounds maintain peaceful environments. At Pere Marquette State Park Campground, visitors enjoy the natural setting: "The campground is located in an open grove of old trees. There were owls when we were there." One camper adds: "In winter there are a lot of eagles feeding in the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers which meet at the park."

    What you should know

Weather considerations: Camping locations near rivers face seasonal flooding risks. "The park is prone to flooding. It was out of commission for most of the summer of 2019 as the entire area was flooded," reported one camper about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park. Plan accordingly and check conditions before arrival.

Noise factors: Urban camping means dealing with transportation noise. At Cahokia RV Parque, visitors note: "There was road noise, quite a bit." Another Sundermeier RV Park camper mentioned: "It is near a highway, there a railroad bridge right next to it, and it is under the airport flight path. The planes and trains stopped after about 10-11pm I think."

Limited shade: Newer campgrounds haven't developed mature tree canopies. One camper at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park mentioned it will be "really nice when the trees get bigger" and noted that while the "grounds are clean and pleasant," they're currently "a bit sparse with little shade."

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort At Six Flags specializes in family entertainment. "This is a very family friendly campground and would highly recommend if camping with kids!" One visitor described it as having "swimming, games, lots of activities and you can go from rustic rent a tent to a really nice cabin with lots amenities!!"

Playground access: Several campgrounds offer dedicated play areas for children. St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA features "a pool, playground and bounce pad." Another camper mentioned, "My kids loved the jumping pillow at the park."

Safety considerations: Look for campgrounds with additional security measures. One camper at Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park noted, "Security rolled through frequently. Your gate code can be used for the pool and gym at the casino in addition to the bathroom and laundry area."

    Tips from RVers

Site layout challenges: Be prepared for variations in hookup placement. At Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park, one RVer explained: "Utilities are set up weird on all sites - Water and electric are at the very rear of the site by the sewer, so you will need a decent sized hose to reach if your water intake is in the front of your camper."

Practical amenities: RVers appreciate concrete pads and stable utility connections. At Covered Bridge RV Park, a visitor noted: "Back in sites are paved and level with additional space for vehicle parking." One reviewer at Cahokia RV Parque mentioned they appreciated "Level gravel sites with FHU near downtown St. Louis" even though "Sites are close together, with some shade."

Internet reliability: Many campgrounds offer varying levels of connectivity. At Covered Bridge RV Park, an RVer reported: "The wi-fi was surprisingly good enough that my wife and I could both work off of it and even stream shows on the Roku the whole week, except for our last day for some strange reason."
