Best Campgrounds near Lohman, MO

Camping near Lohman, Missouri encompasses a mix of established campgrounds, conservation areas, and riverside sites within central Missouri. The area sits between Jefferson City and Columbia, with several notable options including Binder Park Campground, Pine Ridge Recreation Area in Mark Twain National Forest, and Cooper's Landing along the Missouri River. Campers can choose between full-service RV sites with hookups, primitive tent camping areas, and free dispersed camping options. Lake of the Ozarks State Park, though slightly farther at about 45 minutes southwest, provides additional camping with lakeside sites. The Katy Trail, a converted rail-trail that runs through the region, offers unique access points for cyclists and hikers looking to camp along its route.

Most campgrounds in the Lohman area are accessible year-round, though seasonal considerations apply. Summer brings hot, humid conditions with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F, while winters can drop below freezing with occasional snow. Spring and fall offer milder temperatures but increased chances of thunderstorms and rain. Bug spray is essential during warmer months, particularly for ticks which are prevalent from April through October. Water levels at Lake of the Ozarks and along the Missouri River fluctuate seasonally, with lower levels common in winter and early spring. Most established campgrounds require reservations during peak summer months, while conservation areas typically operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

The camping experiences vary significantly across the region. Scrivner Road Conservation Area offers basic, free camping with access to rivers, lakes, and hiking trails. According to reviews, "this area has an abundance of wildlife, equestrian trails, and hiking." Cooper's Landing provides a more social atmosphere with riverside camping, live music Thursday through Sunday (ending by 10 PM), and amenities including a general store and food options. Binder Park features 17 full-service sites with excellent fishing opportunities, while Three Creeks Conservation Area provides secluded, free camping about 15 minutes from Interstate 70. Most conservation areas have vault toilets but limited or no drinking water, so campers should plan accordingly.

    Graham Cave State Park Campground

    A Nice little campground

A little rough on the way in, but the campground itself had nice spaces in the trees, picnic tables had covers, and we had electrical hookups. Some spaces might require some leveling. Camp host was very friendly.

    Roberts Bluff Access

    Nice Little Overnight Spot

Super convenient overnight spot, about 5 min from I70. Pulled in at about 6:00 in the evening and 2 spots were already taken. We just pulled in for a quick stop for the night. The spot was big enough for our truck and pop-up camper. Quiet area and clean.

    Lakeview Park - Mexico

    Nice campground

It's $20 if you're a non-resident (of Mexico MO) unless you're here for an event, then you get a discount. Nice flat cement pads. Everything worked well and not too busy. No tent camping sign posted on the way in.

Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground — Arrow Rock State Historic Site

    Quiet and clean

We stayed 2 weekend nights in late summer/early Fall. Every site was occupied but still it was pretty quiet. The bathrooms/showers are clean, but maybe could use a few more given the number of sites.

Nice ~2 mile walking trail through the woods was shady and cool despite the heat.

We were in site 019, which was at the end of a loop and had only one neighbor. It backs up to the little lake, so we did hear some noise from the people fishing.

We occasionally got 1 bar on T-mobile.

    Cross Creek RV Park

    DONT STAY HERE

The road to get in and out of this place is absolutely ridiculous. You can try to go 1mph to avoid potholes or washed out area just to hit the next pothole and washed out area. Dont make the mistake we made! Read all the Google reviews (including the 5 star ones which also complain about the road)  i stopped counting after 25.. that explains alot about how much the owners care. The road was so bad we took a loss on the money and stayed elsewhere. Id rather loose out on a few hundred then damage my vehicle getting in and out of this place multiple times during my stay.

    Ben Branch Lake Conservation Area

    Its Nice

Ben Branch is a Nice Place. It is nothing special. The camping Spots DO fill up quickly as there are only like 5-7 spots. On a weekend, Its gonna be loud! Lots of ATVs up and down the Gravel Road. The bathrooms just say if you know You Know. 🫩

    Cooper’s Landing Campgrounds and Marina

    Mostly Scenery.

I do Not like that the fire pits nearest to the river are 30 inches from a 30ft drop off!  Only 2 people can enjoy the campfire because of that.

Secondly, they do Not provide tables for the campers.  Kinda expensive to Not have tables.

Not a good fishing place because it's a treacherous walk down.

    The evening band was awesome!

Will Not be back because of the above.

Playground access: Osage Campground Retreat has recently upgraded their facilities. A camper noted, "They have a new(less than a couple years old) playground for the kids along with kayak rentals so everyone can find someone fun to do!"

Swimming limitations: Missouri River access points often have strong currents. One Cooper's Landing camper warned, "The river is wide and deep here. Current and undertows make it definitely not suitable for swimming. You can see the water swirling and churning."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Many campgrounds have uneven sites requiring additional equipment. A Lake of the Ozarks visitor mentioned, "Our site was kinda tricky to get into, especially if you have a longer trailer. Seemed like quite a few were that way, so do your research."

Electrical options: Cooper's Landing provides hookups but limited sewer facilities. A camper advised, "Spots are tight and the party is next door, but looking to trying again when the music starts up. We were in a small trailer, fit the spot perfectly, but had to park in the glamping spot due to no other room on our spot."

Site selection strategy: At Osage Campground Retreat, a reviewer suggested, "Ask for a site around the perimeter for privacy."

Covered amenities: Binder Park offers some weather protection at sites. A visitor noted, "Although too cold to use, the picnic tables have a pavilion style roof over them at each site!"
