Looking for a little history lesson along with your camping adventure? Look no further than Missouri’s intricate cave scene. Meramec Caverns located in the Ozarks is a 4.5-mile cave system that has existed for the past 400 million years. Meramec Caverns is just one hour from the heart of St. Louis, and offers lodging, camping, and canoeing in addition to guided tours of the cave. 


The quaint and historic Graham Cave State Park is just over an hour west of St. Louis, and offers a walk through ancient history along with year-round camping availability, five hiking trails, and over 386 scenic acres to explore. Take a trip down literature lane and visit the famous Mark Twain Cave near Hannibal, MO. Mark Twain, a Hannibal native himself, incorporates the maze-like cave in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Cave-lovers can also descend into the Onondaga Cave State Park to view towering stalagmites, stalactites, and active flowstones.

Welcome Katy Trail Bike Packers! You can use the basement shower to get the sweat and dirt off after biking along the Katy trail. Sleep on the grassy backyard, beside the river and enjoy the sounds of birds, wind, and water.

Our farm is located along the Katy trail, just north of Saint Charles. It’s a 40 minute bike ride back into Saint Charles so I recommend eating in town before coming out to enjoy the peaceful nature.

Guests will have the basement shower to themselves. Safe place to store bikes while sleeping outside in the hammocks.

Basement shower is rustic (literally some of the plumbing is rusty) but the water is hot. :)



Roads End West

This 7.73-acre unique outdoor recreational area features 13 large (54' concrete pad) and five small (34' concrete pad) camp sites with electric hookups, a dump station for RV sanitary lines, a free boat ramp for access to the Mississippi River, and an open play area with a scenic overlook plaza and parking for 59 boat trailers. 

Electric camp sites are $25 per night, per site with a two-night minimum. Each site has a 6-person capacity. Camp sites currently do not have picnic tables or fire rings. 

Riverside Landing is an access point on the newly opened Dardenne Creek Blueway, the first of a 5 Phase Plan for St. Charles County. Adventure out on the 3.5-mile trip! Start at Riverside Landing in St. Charles and end up at 370 Lakeside Park in St. Peters. Please Note: All water at this park is non-potable and cannot be use for consumption. Campers must bring their own drinking water.

Pere Marquette State Park is a nature lover's paradise. In addition to enjoying the spectacular views of the Illinois River and its backwaters from several points atop the bluffs, visitors can take advantage of a variety of year-round recreational opportunities, including horseback riding, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and boating.

Pere Marquette's Visitor Center has a 3-D map of the park and wealth of other displays and exhibits concerning the Illinois River, wildlife habitat, local history and geology.

Fall color drives are popular along the wooded ravines and riverside roadways at and near Pere Marquette. In January and February, the park is a hot-spot for bald eagle watching. For many years, the park has hosted tours of the river bluffs and woods for visitors to get an up-close look at wintering bald eagles in the hundreds along the Mississippi River and lower Illinois River near the park.

Campers will find plenty to like at Pere Marquette, from camp sites and cabins to the popular Youth Tent Camp and three group camps. Campground reservations can be made at ExploreMoreIL.

The beautiful Pere Marquette Lodge and Conference Center is an ideal place to stay for a weekend or weekday getaway. Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the lodge has been expanded and updated in recent years. The mammoth stone fireplace in the lobby soars to a roof height of 50 feet, and is said to weigh 700 tons. There are 50 spacious guest rooms and 22 stone guest cabin rooms. 

While groups of 25 or more are welcome and encouraged to use the park's facilities, they are required to register in advance with the site office to avoid crowding or scheduling conflicts.
At least one responsible adult must accompany each group of 15 minors. Pets must be kept on leashes at all times.
Actions by nature can result in closed roads and other facilities. Please call ahead to the park office before you make your trip.

You can pitch your tent in the fields or at the edge of the woods, pick your own spot. The sites are all in the fields with the animals! Our property is very secluded, kind of on the corner of a very forested area. We have picnic tables and portable firepits at our four drive up sites. If you'd like to be more adventurous or you prefer more seclusion you can choose your own spot, you just need to hike in and tote your gear.

Hummingbird Hollow Farm Sanctuary, Corp. was founded in January of 2020. Yes, right before Covid changed the world. I've lived on this farm since 2006, when my husband and I bought it as our dream home after the kids were out of high school. He wanted woods so he could walk out the door and go hunting, and I wanted pasture to fulfill my girlhood dream of owning horses (and all other animals I could collect) and pursue my passion of gardening. It was perfect, but tragically he died of ALS two years after moving here. He did get to fulfill his dream. I am continuing to work on mine and want to share it with you. The property and animals are here for you to enjoy.
