Best Cabin Camping near Roach, MO

Several campgrounds near Roach, Missouri provide furnished cabin rentals with varying amenities. Bennett Spring State Park Campground offers 65 cabin units ranging from rustic to modern accommodations, some featuring historic Civilian Conservation Corps architecture from the 1930s. Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area includes one to three-bedroom cabins with refrigerators, though maintenance issues have been reported. According to one visitor, "We enjoyed hanging out with our friends on the porch of Cabin #3, eating a great steak and catching up" at Ruby's Landing River Resort. Riverfront Campground and Canoe provides cabin rentals along the Niangua River with access to shower facilities. Most cabins include electricity and basic furniture, while higher-end options may include kitchen facilities, air conditioning, and private bathrooms.

Cabin types vary significantly across the region, from basic one-room structures to multi-bedroom family accommodations. B Berry Farms & Co. features a bunkhouse cabin with air conditioning, refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee maker, and bunk beds that accommodate up to five people. Many locations are pet-friendly, though policies and additional fees vary by campground. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during summer months when fishing and water activities draw larger crowds. One reviewer noted cabin accessibility challenges at Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area: "If you go here DO NOT GET CABIN 6. It's the only one you can't park in front of as it's down the side of a hill. You must traverse several levels of steps down a steep grade." KOA cabin camping is available at Linn Creek, though reviews indicate mixed experiences with amenities and site spacing.

Most cabin rentals provide beds with mattresses but require guests to bring their own linens, pillows, blankets, and towels. Kitchen facilities vary widely, from fully equipped kitchens to simple microwaves or outdoor fire rings with cooking grates. Campers should check specific cabin listings for details on refrigeration, cooking equipment, and utensils before arrival. Basic supplies and groceries can be purchased at camp stores within Bennett Spring State Park, Hidden Valley Outfitters, and other locations with on-site markets. For more extensive shopping, nearby towns offer grocery stores and outdoor supply shops. Firewood is typically available for purchase at entrance gates or camp stores, with prices around $5 per bundle at some locations.

Pittsburg Area Campground — Pomme de Terre State Park

    Nice secluded spots

Two parks in one. The Hermitage and The Pittsburgh. We chose the 400 loop of Pittsburgh for its secluded spots. Spaces are not stacked on top of each other. You’re in the woods so take bug spray. Level paved lots to choose from. Fire rings and covered picnic tables. Lots of shade.

Pittsburg Area Campground — Pomme de Terre State Park

    Our First Popup Adventure

Our first camping adventure in the popup took us to Pomme de Terre State Park on Father’s Day of 2017. Pomme de Terre State Park is one State Park that is two completely separate campgrounds, split in half by Pomme de Terre lake. When booking pay attention to whether you are on the Hermitage side or the Pittsburgh side. Each campground has it’s own camp store, swim beach, boat launch, and sanitary disposal station.

We have camped three separate times at Pomme de Terre with all three campsites being in the 400 loop on the Pittsburgh side. This loop has been chosen due to its proximity to the bathrooms and the playground, these are key when having a 4-year-old. This loop is located in the woods with nice spacing between sites. Each site comes with a fire ring and covered picnic table. I will warn you that some of the sites on the left when you first pull into the loop are on an incline, so bring plenty of leveling pads with you if you have a trailer. If you are wanting to be close to the water this loop is not the one you will want to reserve. I would look more in the 300 loop, though those sites are gravel in case that is an issue for you, or look at the Hermitage side. The bathroom and shower house located at the entrance to loop 400 are some of the nicest that we have experience while staying in a state park. They are clean and well maintained. Located throughout the loops are vault toilets if you choose a site farther away from the main bathroom.

We enjoy the campground and marina on the Pittsburgh side. The marina is stocked with some camp essentials as well as a café for a quick bite. They also have boats, canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards for rent, for a list a prices here is the Marina’s website www.mofunparks.com. This is one of our son’s favorite stops on the trip, they have a nice selection of ice cream. The size of the marina is not large, and if it is busy the inside can be very cramped. We do prefer the swim beach on the Hermitage side it is located along a peninsula with ample room on busy days, as opposed to the Pittsburgh swim beach that is located in a cove without as much space.

When traveling between the two state parks you will travel through Hermitage, Missouri. They have a Dollar General, gas station, and some restaurants. I cannot speak for the restaurants, but we have used the Dollar General for supplies that did not make the trip. Located at the junction of Hwy 64 and Hwy 64B, just outside of the Pittsburgh side of the park, you will find an old building directly across from White’s Marine Center that is selling camp wood. The person that sells the wood will be out there sometimes, but if they are not, there is drop box mounted to one of the poles to leave money in. I was able to purchase a wheelbarrow load for $8.00, which is a much better deal than the small bundle they sell in the park for $5.00.

Pomme de Terre State Park has become a family favorite campground. We will be making a voyage here every year to continue exploring.

RANGER REVIEW: I had the opportunity to review the GCI Slim Fold Cook Station. Wow what a great addition! Totally loved it. Spacious room on top. Found it to be pretty stable. Sever hooks for hanging items for quick access. Made from sturdy material. Set up and take down super easy. We used iron grill with it and found it to be a match. Also used as a buffet for feeding larger number. Very versatile . Definite 10

Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area

Nice military campground on the Lake of the Ozarks

The Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area (LORA) is a great destination for camping, boating, swimming, water skiing, fishing and other outdoor activities. The lake is one of the Nation's largest man-made lakes, providing you with over 1150 miles of shoreline to enjoy. LORA welcomes Active Duty Military, Retired Military, members of the National Guard and Reserves, DoD employees with ID cards, family members and Fort Leonard Wood contract employees.  Plenty to do and see here.  Boat rentals, hiking, and others mentioned above.  The LORA Country Store carries ice, beverages, firewood and a small selection of food including snacks, milk, eggs and bread. The store also carries the basic necessities needed for camping and fishing, including fishing licenses.  Can rent a tent site, camper site with full or partial hook ups, cabins 1-3 bedroom, etc.  The marina has boat and jet-ski rentals (pontoons, wave runners, jet ski's, ski boats, fishing boats, pontoons, etc.) that are much more reasonable then other rental places in the area. Area is staffed by on-duty MP's out of Fort Leonard Wood.

    B Berry Farms & Co.

    Quiet and Cozy Campground

My girlfriend and I stayed here during our road-trip through MO. The owners Brandon and Theresa were very accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. They gave us a tour of the farm when we arrived and let us pick out which camp site we wanted. The camp site had everything we needed including a fire pit, grill, picnic table, water spout and bath room nearby. We enjoyed picking black berries right next to our campsite to have with breakfast in the morning. I highly recommend staying here with your family or significant other!

Guide to Roach

Cabin camping near Roach, Missouri provides access to the Niangua River watershed with surrounding oak-hickory forests at elevations between 900-1,100 feet. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F and mild winters, making spring and fall the most comfortable seasons for outdoor activities. Winter cabin rentals offer off-season solitude with reduced rates at most facilities.

What to do

Trout fishing access: Bennett Spring State Park Campground sits adjacent to one of Missouri's premier trout fishing destinations. "After one visit, this became one of my favorite state parks. This is one of Missouri's 'trout parks' with a hatchery and release sites so fishing (which actually becomes catching) is a big draw," notes a visitor at Bennett Spring State Park Campground.

Kayak rentals: Multiple outfitters provide river access and equipment for float trips. "We spent our first weekend at HVO. The gravel bar was nice and close to our site. However the gravel bar isn't huge so make sure to show up early to get a prime spot," reports one camper at Hidden Valley Outfitters.

Hiking trails: The region offers various trail systems through forested terrain. "The park has over twenty miles of hiking trails meandering through its 3,216 acres. Trails range from a leisurely walk along the stream to that of rigorous mountain trails that reward hikers with great picturesque views of the Ozark Mountains."

What campers like

Concrete pads: Many sites feature level, stable surfaces for setup. "Level concrete pads on most sites. The sites are fairly large so you're not on top of your neighbor. It has a playground and a large area in the middle of the loop for playing," says a camper about Riverfront Campground and Canoe.

Off-season quiet: Winter and early spring visitors report peaceful experiences. "This is the third time staying here. This time wife and I took our small camper just to get away for the weekend. We stayed in campground one because it is the only one open during the off season...because we went in the winter there was only four other campsites taken."

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathhouses are consistently mentioned. "Shower house is ok - not air conditioned but relatively clean. Sites are nice with a parking pad, picnic table, campfire ring with grill, and lantern post."

What you should know

Reservation timing: Most cabin facilities fill quickly during peak seasons. "Reserve early as it fills up fast!" advises a visitor about Bennett Spring State Park.

Cabin variance: Accommodations range from basic to fully equipped. "The campsite had fine amenities that I would expect from a KOA: decent bathrooms, playground, basic pool. What I didn't like was the gravel roads around the campsite were very washed out from rain, unlevel, and I was nervous we'd bust up the camper pulling it," reports a camper at Linn Creek KOA.

Military access: Some facilities have eligibility requirements. "LORA welcomes Active Duty Military, Retired Military, members of the National Guard and Reserves, DoD employees with ID cards, family members and Fort Leonard Wood contract employees."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. "It has a playground and a large area in the middle of the loop for playing. The river has a couple nice gravel bars for swimming."

Swimming spots: River access points with shallow water provide safe recreation. "There is a great little 'beach' spot along the river so you can play in the water, with umbrellas already put in on the banks for shade," shares a visitor at Mountain Creek Campground.

Organized activities: Some facilities offer seasonal events. "This is a Military Campground (not quite a FAMCAMP - more a Recreation Area)! They have an awesome Halloween Spooktacular!!!!"

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Consider terrain when choosing locations. "Lynn Creek KOA is a mediocre resort. The pool and the bathroom facilities are pros, and the sites have trees for added shade. But the cons outweigh those pros, as the sites are all gravel with very little grass, deferred maintenance is an issue for electric & water outlets."

Wi-Fi availability: Internet access varies by location. "We were surprised when we found that there was Wi-Fi available for free at the campground."

Dump station logistics: Not all sites offer full hookups. "All the RV sites are electric/water so you have to use the on site dump station."
