Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

      KOA in Eureka, MO

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

      St. Francois State Park Campground

      St. Francois

We had a beautiful campsite with soft grassy ground. We did have a mole or something burrowing around so you had to watch for loose dirt clods but that was NBD. The site had a picnic table and fire ring. There were pit toilets, no showers. Spigots throughout the area. Within walking distance of the river and trail access. Beautiful hiking on the bluffs above the river. The hosts were really friendly. There was also a very cute and very friendly kitty running around the area hunting grasshoppers. He hung out for some pets and cuddles then wandered off for some more adventure. I kind of want to be that cat. ^_^

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

LEDLENDSER MH10 and KOA Route 66 review

      Campground review:

Once googling local campsites at the last minute for a weekend getaway with both dogs, we came route 66 campground. They have a dog park, rv hookup sites, electric tent sites and primitive sites. We stayed at a primitive tent site with both dogs. Site t13, which unfortunately was one of the very few camp spots with zero trees so we're unable to use our hammock. (Most of the other sites had great trees for hammock setups). Other amenities on the campground included a heated pool, bike rentals, basketball courts, a country store for firewood, supplies, and gift shop. Needless to say this was not a "roughing" it type campground. For the dogs though, we were right across from the creek to take them down to play. Also, kids were catching crawdads! Great campsite that is pet friendly and very family friendly!

      Product review:

      Ledlenser mh10

This headlamp first of all comes with a 7 year warrantly(must register the product)! On top of that all these features: a rechargeable battery with a USB port. Rapid focus system with 2 tough button on headlamp to adjust lighting. The strap is very easy to adjust and fit to comfort, lightweight despise the battery pack attached to the headlamp. The lighting is phenomenal! You also get a green and red additional glass lense that you can screw into the front of your lense for any activity and not disturb others with a bright white light. Me, howsoever, I was able to on this camping trip, use the headlamp to continue to play a game of cornhole... and winter, might I add.. thanks to my headlamp for optimal vision;). Included are some pictures of how bright and fitting the headlamp is. I was highly impressed! Never once did it slip... which I have struggled with in many headlamps that it seems the lamp is too heavy and slowly makes its way down your forehead. The Ledlenser stays in place and is very comfortable! Also, doesn't leave that weird band line on your head... at least I didn't experience it like I have on others. Very impressed overall!

      Lots to do

There is lots to do at this park. There is a pool, bike rentals, dog park, movie night, basketball court, and more. You can bring your RV, travel trailer, tent camp, or stay in a cabin. Most of the sites are in the shade and are fairly level. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. They have Ele/water and Ele/water/sewer sites. It is close to train tracks, but I only heard the train once at night. It’s close to Six Flags, shopping, and restaurants. They even have a cute caboose cabin you can stay in.

    Guide to Richmond Heights

Camping options near Richmond Heights, Missouri offer convenient access points to both urban attractions and natural recreation areas within a 30-minute drive radius. Most camping facilities in this area sit at elevations between 400-600 feet above sea level, with summer temperatures averaging 85-95°F from June through August. Winter camping is available at several year-round facilities, though travelers should prepare for overnight temperatures that can drop below freezing from December through February.

    What to do

Kayaking at 370 Lakeside Park: The 140-acre lake at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park provides calm waters perfect for beginner paddlers, with rentals available on-site. "We love going here and watching the sunsets. This is a great place to kayak and camp if you don't want to drive that fare and live in the city," notes camper Lindsey C.

Explore historic Grafton: Located 45 minutes north of Richmond Heights, Pere Marquette State Park Campground serves as an ideal base for exploring river towns. "It is located in the Great River Road, and within 10 minutes to restaurants and bars. There is a Lodge located next door which also serves a wonderful breakfast," shares Jennifer B.

Catch a race: If you're camping at St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA between April and October, check out the nearby racetrack. "Pretty nice campground, but is near a racetrack. Loud engine noises can be heard past 10pm," mentions Andrew A., which can be either a drawback or an attraction depending on your interests.

    What campers like

Budget-friendly options: Horseshoe Lake State Park offers exceptional value at just $8 per night. "Great spot in a beautiful area close to St. Louis. No power but access to drinking water and waste water dump for just 8$," notes Helge Vandel J., making it one of the most affordable camping options within 20 miles of Richmond Heights.

On-site food options: Many campers appreciate having food options without leaving the campground. "The camp store has a restaurant and getting the 10% discount was great. Their breakfast was yummy and very reasonably priced," mentions a visitor at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Resort, where the on-site dining saves families from packing extra meals.

Security measures: Several campgrounds feature enhanced security systems. At Casino Queen RV Park, "Security rolled through frequently. Your gate code can be used for the pool and gym at the casino in addition to the bathroom and laundry area," reports Robert F., providing added peace of mind for campers with valuable equipment.

    What you should know

Urban camping challenges: Campgrounds closest to Richmond Heights tend to have more concrete than grass. "Asphalt level pads with FHU, both 30 & 50 amp service. We have had a fun time here even doing laundry," notes Dennis P. about Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park, where the trade-off for urban convenience is a less natural setting.

Noise considerations: Train noise affects multiple campgrounds in the area. At Sundermeier RV Park, expect "the train and airplane noise," according to laura M., while at St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA, "a train honked early in the morning," reports Stephanie S.

Weather risks: Certain campgrounds near rivers face seasonal flooding risks. At Covered Bridge RV Park, one camper noted: "While we were there they had a record rainfall amount and the park apparently already has flooding issues so it was flooding pretty bad but also our RV was right next to a creek that had risen really high."

    Tips for camping with families

Activity-focused stays: Jellystone Park caters specifically to families with children. "Great kids activities! Good breakfast and nice store. Really enjoyed our trip bundled with a Six Flags trip," shares Erin P. The campground runs scheduled activities throughout the day during peak season.

Playground access: Several campgrounds feature play areas for children. At 370 Lakeside Park, "Kids had a blast riding bikes. Even finding a few little frogs jumping around and fireflies at night," according to Joseph F., providing natural entertainment beyond the structured activities.

Space requirements: Family groups need more room to spread out. At Cahokia RV Parque, "The sites are roomy enough, given that you're situated less than 15 miles from downtown St. Louis. The picnic tables and fire rings are nice additions and the lots appear to be level (ours was)," notes Lee T., making it easier for families to set up outdoor seating areas.

    Tips from RVers

Water pressure variances: At Sundermeier RV Park, expect "30 pound water pressure," according to Jack G., which may require adjustments for RV water systems accustomed to higher pressure systems.

Hookup placement: Some campgrounds have unusually positioned utility connections. At Casino Queen RV Park, "Utilities are set up weird on all sites - Water and electric are at the very rear of the site by the sewer, so you will need a decent sized hose to reach if your water intake is in the front of your camper," advises Josh F.

Dog-friendly campgrounds near Richmond Heights: While most campgrounds accept pets, specific accommodations vary. At St. Louis NE-Granite City KOA, one camper noted they "Doesn't allow pets for tent sites," a policy that differs from their RV sites. RVers with dogs should confirm pet policies when booking, particularly at tent-only sections of mixed-use campgrounds.
