Best RV Parks & Resorts near New Franklin, MO

Several RV parks surround New Franklin, Missouri, offering varied options for motorhome travelers. Katy Roundhouse, located directly in New Franklin, provides full hookup sites with water, sewer, and both 30/50 amp electrical service. The campground features pull-through sites that accommodate larger rigs and includes amenities like showers, toilets, and a sanitary dump station. Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground, situated about 15 miles northwest of New Franklin, maintains big-rig friendly sites with 50 amp hookups and operates year-round. Cottonwoods RV Park & Campground in Columbia (approximately 20 miles east) offers 83 sites with full hookups on level gravel pads. "Great campground for short visit along Katy Trail. All sites are full hookup & pull-through. Most sites shaded with trees," notes one RV camper about Katy Roundhouse.

Reservations are recommended for most RV parks in the region, particularly during weekends and fall months when occupancy rates increase. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area's established campgrounds. Blackwater Bluffs RV Park, with its 22 sites featuring both 30 and 50 amp service, allows pets and provides drinking water hookups. Many parks maintain on-site dump stations, though Cedar Creek Resort & RV Park notably lacks this amenity. Access roads to most campgrounds are well-maintained, though some travelers report navigating gravel roads to reach certain locations. During winter months, Arrow Rock State Historic Site may have limited water availability, though electrical hookups remain operational year-round. RV campers should note that site spacing varies considerably between parks, with Cottonwoods described by visitors as having "very close" sites while others offer more generous spacing.

    Good for a short stay.

Making reservations: We made reservations a few weeks in advance (glad we did). We received an email with the site and instructions, which included calling to make final payment. This one, like many private parks, has limited office hours. So, catching them while they were in the office took a few tries.

The park: That all said, the experience in the park was fine. Beautiful tree canopy covers the whole park, tiny playground for the kids at the back of the park, etc. There was plenty of space between sites for our tow vehicle and 37’ 5th wheel with 3 slide outs. Utilities were close (50/30/20, water, sewer). Pull through sites if nobody is slotted in front/behind (you pull through one site to get to the other). No branches in our way (we are 12’7” tall). This park is a combo of mobile homes, transient RVs and long term RVs.

Surrounding area: There is a gas station right up the road although it was too busy / small for us so we went back toward the main Highway where there are two big ones to choose from with plenty of space to turn. Seems to be the gateway to the Ozarks for gassing up, so plenty of space and stuff.

    Cottonwoods RV Park & Campground

    Very Nice Campground

Check-in was quick and easy and we proceeded to pull through site 83 with FHUs. The gravel pad was very long and we had plenty of room for our 40’ rig and F450. The utilities were in the middle of the pad and water pressure was decent at about 40 psi. As we were on the end of a row, we had a lot of front yard space. The sites here are very close together, but long-term guests kept their sites nice and well organized, and overall this CG was very clean. There are mature trees so satellite placement could be challenging. We were able to place our Starlink in the yard area for a good shot to the north sky. We got 4 bars on Verizon and their WiFi worked well for a campground of this size. At the office, they have a nice store and gift shop with one of the best selections of camping shirts etc. that we have seen.

Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground

    Nice campsite during off season

Stayed two nights in early March in our RV. I knew the bathrooms would be locked and that the water would be off so had full fresh tank and jerry cans. There's a dump station on site so I didn't have to go home full too. Electric at the site was appreciated so we can run the furnace fan and water heater off it. I was not expecting to see no trashcans so I had to pack out. However, there were recycling bins.

I didn't see anyone selling firewood along the way so I scavenged for wood near the site. Not a big deal to find wood but it was wet and challenging to keep from smoking me out.

There were only a couple other campers and they were nice not to camp next to us. Felt like we were the only ones there. The best part of camping off season.

Walked the trail down to the river and appreciated the crushed rock trail. I didn't visit the nearby town, but will next time I visit.

The only negative was not being able to reserve and pay ahead of arrival, which means I have to bring exact cash. Who carries cash anymore?!

Site 37 is a premium site with 50 amp service for an additional cost. I didn't have enough cash to pay the premium site price and had already setup camp before realizing it. My RV has a 30 amp service and it was off season so I didn't feel too bad about paying the standard electric price.

Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground

    Lovely and peaceful campground

We stayed on site 13 for one night in October 2020. It’s about 15-20 minutes from I70. Electric and water hookups, clean showers, very nice campground host. You’re supposed to reserve>24 hours in advance but we pulled up around 8 pm and got a site. Good spacing between sites, pretty level parking spot, picnic table, fire pit, etc. Huge and empty picnic area- beautifully maintained. Lovely spot. Wish we had more time to explore it. We would return here again.

    Blackwater Bluffs RV Park

Perfect hidden gem for a quick overnight

There is almost nothing on the 70 through Missouri that's remotely interesting, so finding this place was a score. Its a newer park run by a father and son who have been steadily making improvements. It is exactly what is listed, so if you're looking for showers and wifi and all the things..this is not the spot for you. They have full hookups, easy pull through gravel pads, a little golf course you can putt around on, and a deck that overlooks the bluffs with a gorgeous view. Its the perfect spot for an easy, comfortable break from the road.

    Knob Noster State Park Campground

    Nice & Shady

Nice & Shady State Park; 30 amp only, no water or sewer at sites. Water readily available throughout the park, dump station near exit. Dumpsters are not near the the dump station. Cost: $21/night for electric site. All gravel, except handicapped sites which are nicely paved and level. Very quiet park, hiking & biking available, kayaking at park lake (very mossy), lots and lots of stupid raccoons at night.

    Lakeview Park - Mexico

    Quiet RV/City Park

We camped in a 32' Class C for 7 days during the Miss Missouri Pageant. It's a quite little park with maybe 15-20 sites with electric only. There is potable water and sewer dump on site. So W of the sites could be considered pull through depending if you have a neighbor or not. Some of the camp sites are arranged like a standard parking lot where you back in or pull in nose to nose or bumper to bumper depending on your type of rig. There is a fair amount of shade. The RV park is also the city park so there is a fair amount of traffic in and out during the day but not too bad. There is a playground area, bicycle /walking path as well as public flush toilets and a pavilion. It worked perfectly for our needs.

Guide to New Franklin

Camping options near New Franklin, Missouri include both established RV parks and dispersed sites along the Missouri River. The area sits at approximately 600 feet elevation with a humid continental climate featuring hot summers and mild winters. Annual rainfall averages 43 inches, with spring and early summer being the wettest seasons, creating lush vegetation along the Katy Trail that connects many camping destinations.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Cedar Creek Resort & RV Park, campers can access multiple fishing ponds throughout the 160-acre property. "Peaceful campsites. They have added the sites in 300's and 500's this year. The 100's and 200's have been established for 3 years or so," notes a visitor from Cedar Creek.

Biking the Katy Trail: Katy Roundhouse provides direct access to the Katy Trail, making it ideal for cyclists. "Camping right alongside the Katy Trail is hard to find. This campground is one of two I know of. Full hookups at most sites and nearly all are tree covered," reports one reviewer.

Historic site exploration: Visit Arrow Rock State Historic Site Campground to explore buildings with historical significance. "There is a nice biking/jogging trail along the river as well. Spaces are tight to get in and out, but otherwise no complaints," mentions a visitor who appreciated the historic town's accessibility.

What campers like

Riverside camping: Cooper's Landing Campgrounds offers sites directly on the Missouri River with exceptional sunset views. "Pulled into this cozy campground (probably no more than 50 sites) and had a great set up right on the river. We called around 8PM to inquire and then arrived around midnight and paid online," shares one camper.

Evening entertainment: Many campers appreciate the live music at Cooper's Landing on weekends. "Leaving this magical place today. For anyone wanting to stay be aware they have live music Thursday through Sunday. They wrap everything up by 10pm and it's very quiet late night," explains a visitor.

Convenient overnight stops: Robert's Bluff provides free dispersed camping close to I-70. "Good free camping to overnight if you are travelling on your RV, close to the highway but without noise. No toillets. Verizon signal works good," reports one traveler who appreciated the accessibility.

What you should know

Site spacing considerations: Site proximity varies widely between campgrounds. "The camp sites are very close to each other. But the campers around us were very nice. Only needed one night and it worked prayer for us," notes a Cottonwoods RV Park visitor.

Water availability restrictions: During winter months, some campgrounds limit water access. "No bath house until April 1 and no cell coverage (T-Mobile) but wonderful walking, hiking and biking areas, quaint MO town nearby," explains an Arrow Rock State Historic Site visitor.

Reservation requirements: Busy weekends often require advance planning. "This campground is one of two I know of. Full hookups at most sites and nearly all are tree covered. The sites were very close to each other but unless it's a busy weekend you can spread out easily," advises a Katy Roundhouse camper.

Playground access: Cottonwoods RV Park provides kid-friendly amenities. "Great playground. Several large rigs in our row, we still fit. Decorated wonderfully for Halloween. Kids are happy!" shares one family's experience.

Water activities: Some campgrounds offer boat rentals for family outings. "The fishing was great, amenities were fantastic, and the hosts were amazing. Free rentals on pontoon boats, kayaks, and paddle boats," reports a Cedar Creek Resort visitor.

Beginner-friendly camping: Several campgrounds are well-suited for new campers. "Perfect place for us to learn the ins and outs as it had full hook-ups. Staff was really friendly, and had the cutest store!" notes a family new to RV camping.

Tips from RVers

RV site dimensions: For RV camping near New Franklin, Missouri, pay attention to site lengths. "Check-in was quick and easy and we proceeded to pull through site 83 with FHUs. The gravel pad was very long and we had plenty of room for our 40' rig and F450," explains a Cottonwoods RV visitor.

Leveling requirements: Some campgrounds require minimal leveling effort. "Our pull-through site was nice and level. Only had to level front to back," mentions an RVer at Cottonwoods RV Park & Campground.

Access road conditions: Approach roads vary in quality around New Franklin. "The only thing I didn't love was the gravel road all the way in. Our truck and camper was covered with gravel dust. So if you had anything exposed, it'll get a bit dusty," cautions a Cedar Creek Resort visitor.
