    Great Route 66 stop

The camp area looks new, cute playground, small fenced dog park type area, showers, laundry, fire pits and picnic tables. Very little trees or grass. Would love it if they played up the Route 66 theme they have going. Very convenient for our fishing trip!

A little rowdy but everyone nice

Way off the beaten path but we had a good time. The campground was clean and everyone was nice. It did get a little rowdy on the weekend but folks respected the quiet hours.

    Bathrooms decent with showers.

T-Mobile and Verizon in places. Hard to get in a camper Several sites that can take advantage of Starlink.

Doolittle Acres RV Park and Campground

    Nice area

Good area only a mile off the highway so it made a great night stopping point. Had great access for our starlink. They have a little dog park, kids park, and it was all clean and well maintained. Easy access and some nice pull through spots. Water, sewer, and electric hook ups. Fire pit and picnic table at site. Since it’s close the highway it was a little loud with traffic. 57$ a night for premium spots, 42$ a night for non premium

Great views, nice sites, okay amenities.

    Stayed 7/22/200 - $15/night

    Site 97

Lake-view sites, beaches, flush toilets and showers, all for$15/night. Don’t have super high expectations.

    PROS:

Great sites on the water. Good space with picnic table and fire rings with a grate. Site 97 was on a corner, with a neighbor to one side, and lots of space between sites to the other.

    CONS:

Showers aren’t great. Cobwebs and mold. First door didn’t even lock. Wide gaps with no curtain. No soap in bathrooms.(During COVID). Can’t expect much for$15/night, but bathrooms/showers were disappointing.

You can setup in the grass, right by the water and enjoy the beach. The ranger also told us of beach access just outside the park, across the street. Bathroom/shower house was a bit of a walk from our site, but nothing crazy. Worth it for the views. No problems with AT&T cell service.

    Bennett Spring State Park Campground

Come On An Off Day Of the Week For Maximum Enjoyment!!

This state park is one worth a stop when near Springfield. I drove north toward this park to enjoy something a bit different and found it to be very peaceful during a weekday.

I had traveled here following a busy time and expected to still have some of that lingering noise which hangs out after a big event. But by the time I reached the location it had dwindled out. Leaving behind in the peaceful outdoors were shaded sites that were well placed but slightly trashed. That isn’t the fault of the park but rather of the people who did not pick up after themselves.

After a little tidying of my site, I was home for the night in a nice tent site. I took a tour of the grounds and noticed that the showers were nice, the water was great in pressure and hot!! Restrooms were well maintained and even after the weekend they had already done their maintenance and had them looking very nice!!

Something else to note when traveling is cell service. With AT&T I had 3 bars of service, something which I was very uncertain of after driving to the location had been spotty in some areas.

The campground runs alongside a waterway and it was nice to enjoy around dusk the sounds of the water. I would have taken a dip in it had I not arrived so late in the evening, it looked so perfect for just dipping the toes in. Also I could see this being a great place to launch a small boat or kayak.

Nearby camp is one of the larger hatcheries in the state which you can visit during certain hours and see how they work to diligently populate the waterways and lakes in Missouri, pretty cool process and information. Definitely recommend!!

Guide to Linn Creek

Camping sites around Linn Creek exist on steep terrain at elevations between 700-900 feet above sea level, creating distinct lakefront and forested accommodation zones. Water levels fluctuate seasonally in both Truman Lake and Lake of the Ozarks, affecting beach access at certain campsites. Winter temperatures typically range from 20-40°F while summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity.

What to do

Trout fishing regulation zones: Bennett Spring State Park Campground designates specific zones for different fishing techniques. Anglers must purchase daily tags ($5-9) from the park store. "One of Missouri's 'trout parks' with a hatchery and release sites so fishing (which actually becomes catching) is a big draw," notes one visitor.

Lake exploration: Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area offers boat rentals for non-military families visiting with military sponsors. "Has a large array of boats you can rent. A little difficult to get to it and fairly far from towns but it's worth it," according to a recent guest.

Hiking diversions: Long Shoal Park features a 4-mile paved cycling route that connects to Racoon Ridge viewpoints. A visitor mentioned, "I took in the lake views, but I didn't have long to enjoy the scenery, as I had another 8 plus hours in the car that day."

What campers like

Private pathways to water: Pomme de Terre State Park's Pittsburgh Area Campground provides exclusive shoreline access. "Each site in the electric loop has a private path to the waters edge. Sites viewable by map next to water," shares one camper who particularly enjoyed the bluff views.

Year-round availability: Linn Creek KOA remains open through winter months but with reduced amenities. A visitor noted, "We are here in the middle of October waiting for the leaves to turn. Good access to the Lake of the Ozarks."

Family-friendly camping loops: Pomme de Terre State Park's Hermitage Campground offers wide-open spaces ideal for family activities. A camper observed, "This campground is very wide open and great for family camping, the main facilities are clean and showers are private. It has a camp store, playground and a great swim beach."

What you should know

Military restrictions: Some premium camping locations near Linn Creek require military credentials. At Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area, "Beautiful campground, though Full hookup sites are on an unappealing parking lot. Sites with electric and water only are in nice oak woods overlooking Lake of the Ozarks."

Site limitations: Not all glamping sites in Linn Creek, Missouri offer equal accommodations. A camper at Gasconade Hills Resort noted, "Pretty nice campground although the spaces were a little small and crowded. No cell service and very limited wifi."

Off-season considerations: Winter glamping options remain available but with reduced services. "Campground one is in a flat spot down by the water and it is actually rather open and built for large rigs to fit in," reported one Bennett Spring visitor during winter months.

Tips for camping with families

Bicycle-friendly parks: State parks offer paved roads for safe family cycling. At Hermitage State Park Campground, "The campground is perfect for bike riding as well," according to visitors who appreciated the layout.

Halloween events: Plan October visits around special events at Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Recreation Area. "They have an awesome Halloween Spooktacular!!!!" reports a regular visitor who returns specifically for this event.

Swimming options: Multiple glamping areas in Linn Creek provide designated swimming locations. At Pittsburg Area Campground, a visitor reported, "The swimming beach was amazing and the bathrooms well-kept."

Tips from RVers

Full hookup limitations: Several campgrounds offer full hookups but with site compromises. At Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area, "Full hookup area is a big parking lot with no shade! BUT you have great satellite signal!"

Shower facilities: Shower quality varies significantly between glamping locations in Linn Creek. Long Shoal Park visitors reported, "Showers aren't great. Cobwebs and mold. First door didn't even lock. Wide gaps with no curtain."

Accessibility challenges: Some premium glamping locations have difficult access roads. As one camper at Niangua River Oasis noted, "The bus ride down to the river is terrifying because most of the road is washed out with a huge rut down the middle."
