Paddy Creek Recreation Area accommodates pets in both tent and RV camping settings across its primitive campsites. This free campground features picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets while maintaining a pet-friendly environment throughout the grounds. Lane Spring Recreation Area also welcomes pets and provides both electric hookups and primitive sites, with 30-amp connections available at select locations. Many campgrounds in the region, including Montauk State Park, Haven Hollow RV Park, and Three Springs RV Park, allow pets while offering additional amenities such as water hookups, picnic tables, and trash facilities. Campers must keep pets leashed at all times, though each site offers sufficient space for pets to explore on-lead. Paddy Creek maintains a voluntary payment system based on donations, creating an economical option for campers traveling with animals.
Most pet-friendly sites near Edgar Springs connect to hiking trails accessible with leashed dogs. Lane Spring Recreation Area sits alongside a creek that provides a cooling spot for pets during warmer months, though water conditions can vary seasonally. Mark Twain National Forest surrounds many of these campgrounds, offering extensive trail systems where pets can explore natural surroundings. Campgrounds generally maintain quiet hours when barking should be minimized to respect other campers. Sites near water like Paddy Creek offer cooling opportunities for pets during summer months when temperatures can rise significantly. Haven Hollow RV Park features maintained grass walking trails throughout the property that are ideal for daily pet exercise. Campers should note that no off-leash areas exist within these campgrounds, and owners must clean up after their pets at all locations. Cell service can be limited or non-existent at some locations, particularly at Paddy Creek, making emergency veterinary contacts difficult without driving to higher ground.
"Access to swimming, fishing, and hiking trails. We were surprised with how many sites were taken up, but there were still quite a few available."
"Dollar General and a gas station located in nearby Roby. No cell service at cg. Had to drive up the hill to get a signal."
"Very well maintained & marked grass walking trails throughout the property. Easy to find. Not too far interstate. Easy to back in site."
"Supplies close by in Rolla. WiFi wasn't very good and cell was spotty even with the booster.
No showers or toilets on site so you need to be self-contained."

The camp area looks new, cute playground, small fenced dog park type area, showers, laundry, fire pits and picnic tables. Very little trees or grass. Would love it if they played up the Route 66 theme they have going. Very convenient for our fishing trip!
Good area only a mile off the highway so it made a great night stopping point. Had great access for our starlink. They have a little dog park, kids park, and it was all clean and well maintained. Easy access and some nice pull through spots. Water, sewer, and electric hook ups. Fire pit and picnic table at site. Since it’s close the highway it was a little loud with traffic. 57$ a night for premium spots, 42$ a night for non premium
We stayed one night in campsite 65. Onondaga Cave is amazing with the new lighting; it just reopened July 4, 2024. The river is still fantastic fun, especially for our grandkids ages 9 and 12.
Avoid campsite 65 when it rains. We had over an inch of standing water on the concrete pad when we arrived. 18 hours after it stopped raining, we still had some water on the concrete pad.
Other than the water, Onondaga Cave SP has been one of my favorite places to camp in Missouri for more than 20 years.
We have stayed at Blue Springs for three consecutive years in a row. We have children in tow, and love all of the amenities. We park close to the creek, we drive to the Meramec River and sometimes enjoy petting a horse or goat. Last year we zip lined. It’s close to the caverns and other awesome sites. Clean shower houses and a pool cap off the nice experience
Lake of the Ozarks State Park campground is located in Kaiser Missouri about 5 miles down highway 134 off of highway 42. This campground is about 1.5 hour from Columbia and Springfield Missouri. It is approximately 3 hours from St.Louis and Kansas City Missouri .
Lake of the Ozarks State Park includes two different areas which are both located on Lake of the Ozarks.
The one reviewed here is located in Kaiser and includes Public Beach #1 , a marina/gas dock , horse stables/trails, hiking trails, beach, fishing dock, shore fishing and campground.
The other is located in Osage Beach about 20 minutes away and includes Public Beach #2, grand glaze marina/gas dock, shore fishing and hiking trails. No camping is available at the Osage Beach location aka PB 2 or grand glaze.
Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground is a wonderful place to set up camp for the weekend and is one of my all time favorites. The State Park is clean and well maintained with plenty to do for everyone.
The camp sites range from primitive to full hook up 50amp and you will see a range of camping types from tents to class A's . The sites are well spaced out despite how the reservation map appears on the State Park website. I would however suggest staying at the campsites on the outer edges as the interior sites are a bit more cramped.
This area includes bath and shower houses that are of average cleanliness for a State park (typically worn but clean). As well as 3 playgrounds for the kids. Also on site is a Beach so bring a Towel and swimming suit.
A few things to note . If you come in the winter or spring the lake will be low and your lake side campsite will be Lake view instead. You are located about 15 minutes from a grocery store however a camp store is available also bring bug spray.
Your ideal sites are lakeside 160's I stayed at #163 and it was wonderful open with not a lot of tress for the dogs to get tangled in.
This is a true gem at the lake and even though I only live 15 miles away we visit many times throughout the year.
This was a pretty campsite with lots of trees and simple deer trails throughout. Sites are well spread out. The lake itself was filthy and smelly. Lots of trash and rotting fish on the shorelines. The campground website said they had WiFi throughout the campsite, however it was only available at the front office. No cell service. We had planned to stay for a week to school and work remotely, but had to cut our time here short because of no connectivity. If we hadn’t had the need for WiFi, this would have been a fine campground to stay at, as it is centrally located to many sightseeing locations.
Sties were level, kid and pet friendly, quiet campground, 30/50 amp electricity, no water hookups, firewood avail for fire pits, also had nice picnic tables. Inexpensive.
This is a great state park. Sites are level and have cement pads with full hookups. Not much shade now but they have planted trees between sites. Bathrooms are clean. There is also a lodge with store and restaurant just down the street. There are cabins there that can be rented also. And the real treat is the wild horses. Came right up to our site - but please do not feed or try to pet. The rangers will have to move them if they get to used to people.
Also local river rafting companies will pick you up at your site
Echo Bluff State Park in Ozark National Scenic Riverways near Eminence, MO is a brand new “old camp”.
Opened in 2016 the history is rather interesting. From 1929 until the 1980s, Camp Zoe was a children’s summer camp, founded by Russell S. and Margaret McMahan Louis County teachers. There is one of the structures still on site with plaques and information. More recently, it was home to music festivals — and an open-air drug market. I didn’t find any plaques in relation to that. However when the government gained control of the land in a court proceeding it was decided to bring more business into Shannon County by opening a very nice campground for people not wanting to rough it.
And “BAM” you have very pricey accommodations from lodge rooms, to cabins and two story condos. The campground is pretty nice too but lacking in shade and privacy. There are walk-in (uphill) sites and nice wagons provided to transport your gear. Not my favorite style of camping. Completely full and busy, which is why it got a 4 instead of 5 star. This may be your type of camping and you would say a 5 star. Reserve ahead, I mean way ahead.
There is a huge pavilion that can be reserved that overlooks the area. It has a large fire pit and mega size grill, one of the trails meanders below the pavilion. This would be a nice venue for an extended family get together.
This is a very nice, new, recreation creation. The playground was given two thumbs up by my granddaughter. Then the river, which you can see from the lodge and playground was given 12 paws and 2 thumbs by dogs and grandkids alike. Crystal clear ice cold water that you can walk across to the sheer wall of rock. Bring your water shoes, the rocks aren’t fun to walk on.
A very cool feature , if you are lucky , you will see the wild horses that roam the area. They are not for petting, so use caution.
Aside from the abundance of people we enjoyed Echo Bluff SP.
Camping opportunities near Edgar Springs, Missouri concentrate around Mark Twain National Forest, where elevations range from 600 to 1,400 feet with moderate humidity levels during summer months. The mixed oak-hickory forests create dense shade at many campsites, while the region's karst topography produces numerous springs that maintain cool water temperatures year-round.
Trout fishing access points: Montauk State Park Campground offers premier trout fishing with a dedicated hatchery and stocking program. "The Current along with the Jack's Fork River make up the Ozark National Scenic Riverways National Park. Since it is one of Missouri's trout parks you will find a majority of campers are there to fish," explains Kyle H. Anglers need to purchase a $3.00 trout tag at the lodge.
Historic site exploration: Maramec Spring Park features remnants of a 19th-century iron works operation alongside camping opportunities. "The park has a country store, and a museum with the remains of an old iron furnace," notes Joel R. The fifth-largest spring in Missouri produces approximately 100 million gallons of water daily, creating excellent conditions for day hikes.
Swimming holes: Boiling Spring Campground provides access to a unique swimming experience. "There is a spring on the opposite side of the river that is fairly easy to swim to that is a thrill to swim through. It's ice cold!" reports Elisha P. The spring maintains consistent cold temperatures regardless of seasonal air temperatures.
Natural water features: Mark Twain National Forest Lane Spring Recreation Area receives high marks for its water access. "This is a beautiful Forest Service Campground located 13 miles south of Rolla Missouri. It is situated along the little Piney River which offers good fishing for wild rainbow trout. There is also a good swimming hole for the warmer months," notes Marty C.
Quiet, secluded atmosphere: Paddy Creek Recreation Area provides peaceful surroundings with minimal development. "Quite, friendly area with very primitive camping. Creek is spring fed so water is always cooler then most creeks," explains Aaron T. Sites feature vault toilets but no water sources or electric hookups.
Multiple river access options: Boating and floating opportunities exist at numerous locations. "My family and I stayed here over the weekend and had such a great experience!! Our camp site was right on the river with a beautiful view of the spring. We did a 5 mile float which was the perfect length and very scenic," shares Aundrea at Boiling Spring Campground.
Seasonal closures and conditions: Several campgrounds operate on limited schedules. "Lane Spring Recreation Area is open seasonally from about April until the end of October," according to Marty C. Montauk State Park maintains year-round operation but becomes crowded during peak fishing seasons.
Limited connectivity: Haven Hollow RV Park offers better cellular service than forest locations. "WiFi wasn't very good and cell was spotty even with the booster," notes Deborah C., though the small park compensates with full hookups and farm-fresh eggs for $2.
Flash flooding concerns: Low-lying sites require weather monitoring. "The campground is subject to flash flooding," warns Joel R. about Maramec Spring Park. Similarly, at Paddy Creek Recreation Area, some sites sit close to waterways that can rise rapidly during heavy rain events.
Kid-friendly water activities: Montauk State Park Campground provides structured programs for children. "We didn't take advantage of it, but there were a lot of activities aimed at kids. Great mix of modern campground and nature experience," shares Dan N. The park store stocks essentials and rents fishing equipment.
Educational opportunities: Families can experience living history demonstrations at select parks. "Like Alley Spring, I could spend all day in this park. The spring is beautiful and the surrounding water works are really neat. If you can get a spot, I suggest going during the frontier days," recommends Charlotte B. about Maramec Spring Park.
Safe swimming areas: Lane Spring Recreation Area offers gentler water access points. "The campground is in the middle of a forest with a large creek running around it. The sound of the creek running right behind my camp site felt so soothing," reports Erin. The shallow creek areas provide safer conditions for younger children.
Site length limitations: Dog friendly campgrounds near Edgar Springs typically accommodate smaller rigs. "Parking pads are short and lined with huge boulders. Worked fine for our 16ft TT big rigs probably not so much," explains Cheryl M. at Paddy Creek Recreation Area. Most national forest sites cannot accommodate units longer than 35 feet.
Hookup availability: Three Springs RV Park & Campground offers full services for those requiring utilities. "Toilets and showers are clean. All the hookups are available. Area is well lit at night. Everyone is pretty quiet," notes Sarah S. The campground allows pets while providing more developed facilities than forest service locations.
