Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Dadeville, MO

Stockton Lake campgrounds welcome pets throughout their Corps of Engineers (COE) managed sites. Cedar Ridge Campground provides spacious spots with electric hookups where dogs can accompany campers at tent and RV sites. The private, wooded sites at Orleans Trail and Hawker Point campgrounds create natural buffers between camping neighbors, allowing pets more room to relax on-leash. Fellow campers are friendly while remaining respectful of others and their pets. Ruark Bluff East and West campgrounds maintain pet-friendly policies with picnic tables and electric hookups in most sites. The Happy Camper allows pets and provides water hookups, electric service, and sanitary dump stations for RV campers traveling with animals.

Several walking paths near the camping areas offer pet exercise opportunities along Stockton Lake's shoreline. Hawker Point's C19 site sits just 50 yards from a private cove where pets can access the water, though the path is somewhat steep. The D loop at Orleans Trail features more spaced-out, wooded sites ideal for campers seeking privacy with their pets. Springfield Route 66 KOA, located about an hour south, offers more amenities including cabin camping options that accept pets. Pet owners should note that Masters Park and COE Stockton Lake Masters no longer permit camping, though fishing areas remain accessible. Most campgrounds lack designated dog parks but provide ample natural areas for leashed pet walks.

    Springfield - Route 66 KOA

    Great Service But Smaller Sites

Of all the KOAs I have visited I was very eager to check out this one.  Close to Springfield and not to far from the turn off to Wilson Creek Battlefield this one just kinda made sense for a visit.

When I ventured to check it out I quickly noticed that the site spacing was not the best when it came to the RVs, it looked claustrophobic.   When it came to the tent sites I felt a bit more like I could breathe and stretch out.   Kind of strange that this was the case as usually the RV section at a KOA is more accommodating, in my own personal experiences.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the overall amenities were pretty inclusive.   Some of course obvious upgrades coming at additional charges while others were standard.

In true KOA fashion there is WIFI, which I personally always welcome because I work remotely and sometimes do not have the best of signal.    Additionally they had standard features such as a dog park area, playground for the kiddos and a pool, although the pool is not open year round like some.

A few things that were a bit less common however, they had a pet play room which was pretty cool and though I don't travel with my pets found it to be a very friendly touch.    I also noticed that in addition to snacks you could pick up in the store they also had pizza during certain times if you were not wanting to use your own kitchen or the common space camp kitchens.

I was pretty impressed overall but with all the good there were those claustrophobic rv sites I just couldn't get past and the pricing of a KOA always hurts the pockets a bit more even with them being nice and the common kitchen area I was attempting to use and had a few issues, this could have been just when I was visiting so I don't want to completely hold that against them but it was having issued.

    TIPS:

    * Visit Wilson's Creek Battlefield to explore, learn and hike.  When you come to this KOA it obviously does not have any hiking, but the battlefield offers a lengthy system of trails .* Bass Pro's home is Springfield, MO so you will not only find the largest Bass Pro there but also a unique museum of all animals which is quite spectacular.

    Springfield - Route 66 KOA

    Great place to stay

My wife and our children stayed here in the summer while we traveled for work and we were extremely pleased with both the grounds and the staff. They have great amenities and clean facilities as well as washers and dryers. They were so accommodating. The only drawback is a train close by. They have a small gated dog park and I huge open field. They have a seasonal swimming pool, kids playground, game room and few more things to keep the kids busy. Good WiFi and a shop that sells/makes/delivers pizza to your campsite. We will be visiting again in the future definitely.

    Big Red Barn RV Park

Very convenient, super clean and quiet

We overnighted here on the way to Hot Springs, AR.  Convenient to Interstate 49, but virtually no traffic noise and none while inside the van.  We arrived after the office had closed - there was a prominent note on the door as to which site to use.   Electrical hookup was fine - we did not use water or cable.  There were about a dozen other  campers - most appeared to be long termers.  The CG was VERY quiet - very peaceful.  They have an off-leash dog park area which our dogs loved and used it 3-4 times the nite we were there.  The bathrooms were toasty warm and VERY clean.  Lavatory hot water got warm quickly, plenty of soap and towels.  The office has various items for sale, from snacks to RV gear.  Would not hesitate to stay again - in fact, may do so next week on our return trip.

    Kimmys At Caplinger

    Best Family Campground in Missouri

Kimmy’s is amazing!  Always friendly and clean. Lots of activities for any outdoor adventures. Hiking kayaking swimming and lots of laughs come with Kimmy’s crew. They go out of their way to make your stay wonderful! If the pond on site is not big enough Stockton Lake is just minutes away or maybe you enjoy kayaking the Sac River is very close as well. Shuttle service is right up the road if needed. Keep your eyes peeled you may just find a message rock or two. We frequent Kimmy’s several times each summer and by far our absolute favorite campground in Missouri. And they are pet friendly too!

    Quiet, country, friendly, pets welcome

This is a great, friendly campground, off the highway about a mile, so no highway noise. Very pet friendly. Long wide sites that have grass, patios and picnic tables. Open year round!

    Lambert's Cafe RV Park

    Okay for an Overnighter

After reading a couple of reviews on this new campground (CG), we called about availability and got someone at Lambert’s Cafe who was not much help. We arrived at this new RV park addition to Lambert’s Cafe from I-57 with no issues. Coming in from I-57, we followed the signs for Lamberts and J.T. RV Park on the left side of the road. The entrance to the RV area is the second entrance into Lambert’s main parking lot. You follow the signage back to the CG which sits off to the right and behind Lambert's. This CG is first-come-first-serve. There’s a sign at the kiosk that states sites 6, 7, 8, 9, 27, 28, 29, 30,& 31 are for stays of one week or longer. We selected and parked in site 25 with FHUs, and then went back to the kiosk and paid our$40. The sites are narrow and very close to each other but this was on a Sunday and the park was fairly empty. There were about five transients overnight along with the four long-termers so having someone next to you was not an issue. There is no fire pit, picnic table, cable, or WiFI. One of the long-termers told me there’s a plan to put in a shower house, restrooms, and other amenities. We do not know if this is factual as we did not see any camp-host type of person during our stay. The CG is in an industrial area and we heard backing beeps at about 2:00 AM for a few minutes but other than that it was not bad for this type of area near a main road. We noticed a long-term resident taking their dog out and not picking up after the pet, which seemed to be common based on the'land mines' we noted while walking our dogs around. There is a dump station here that is a $10 fee if not staying in the CG. Lambert's Cafe is within easy walking distance. We had good water pressure at 50 psi and 4 bars on Verizon. This place is pretty much a parking lot with no trees so no problem with satellite. We got a good variety of OTA stations as well. This CG was a little on the pricey side for what you get unless maybe you are a huge Lambert’s Cafe fan. No surprises at this new RV Park as the sites are pretty much level and the roads easy to navigate. However, this place worked for an overnighter.

    Osage Prairie RV Park

    At Best an Overnighter

We read raving campground (CG) reviews on Osage Prairie, especially how nice the owners were. Based on reviews, we decided to spend three nights here to break up our way south for our annual RV maintenance appointment. Check in was easy and the lady was very friendly with a sense of humor. We were then escorted to pull through site 14 with FHUs. The way the long pull throughs work is that another trailer can back up to you. It was nice that the utilities and picnic tables were on opposite sides. We were told we probably would not get anyone in behind us. About 30 minutes after arrival, a small trailer came in without reservations and was placed right up behind us. We concur that the lady owner who checked us in was very nice. The other owner who escorted us to our site was, in our opinion, a little on the sarcastic side, especially after we had cut our turn on their grass getting into our site. This CG is an A-Typical overnighter where they cram you in. The park filled up every night after our Thursday arrival but we do realize they are in the business of making money. Good news is there were grass areas between sites so you can get slides and awnings out. WiFi was below average for a CG this size. No cable or OTA but after moving our satellite dish around to avoid trees we got it to connect. We got three bars on Verizon. The park is convenient to get on/off I-49 (exits 203 and 202A are both fine) but you’re going to get highway noise day and night. The CG is about 1/2 short termers and 1/2 long timers, and several of the long timer rigs gave the CG that “trailer park” look. I picked up numerous cigar and cigarette butts off our site to include trash in the little grill. We did not enjoy the older Dodge diesel trucks starting up at 5:00 AM to head out to work or wherever they were going. On a more positive side, they have a nice stable with one horse, which you can pet but not feed or ride (guess someone tried to ride him once upon a time). Shower and laundry facility looked clean. They have a little gift shop in the office containing a few camping supplies and leather goods. Again, from previous camper reviews, we thought Nevada (Nee-vay-dah) would be worth touring around but we were not impressed. We grocery shopped at Woods and Walmart and both were on the low side of okay. Our final “not impressed” came when we saw long timers letting their dogs do #2 in the tent area and not pick it up. Then they locked their 3 dogs in their trailer and left early Saturday and had not returned by the time we left the following Monday morning. Their poor dogs barked on and off all day and night. We informed the owner and he said he had told them in the past to not do that anymore. This place is definitely about the frosting, not the cake. We should have just stayed one night and moved on, but we stayed too long and experienced too much. We won’t be back.

What campers like

Private, wooded sites: Orleans Trail campground offers more seclusion than other Stockton Lake options. "All of the sites in the D loop are more spaced out and wooded than in the other loops," notes Hayley G. about Orleans Trail campground.

Morning lake conditions: Many campers mention the lake is calmest before midday. "Best time is in the early morning before the lake gets rough," advises Phillip G. about Crabtree Cove, highlighting the wind patterns that affect water activities.

Clean facilities: Ruark Bluff East maintains well-kept grounds and amenities. "The park is very clean and the camping spots are always clean and ready to go. Very cheap and they have public showers and restrooms near the entrance," reports Rebecca C. about Ruark Bluff East.

Affordable rates: The Happy Camper offers economical overnight options. "It's $20 a night and they have water and electricity. They offer a military discount!" shares Erin J., noting the value for travelers passing through the area.

What you should know

Limited cell service: Many campgrounds around Stockton Lake have spotty connectivity. "No cell service for the teens!" mentions Michelle G. about Ruark Bluff as a positive feature for families wanting to disconnect.

Seasonal operation: Orleans Trail has specific operating dates. "My family has been camping here in October- after winterization, thus no water- for decades," explains Kenna P., noting the different experience during off-season camping.

Train noise considerations: Springfield - Route 66 KOA has nearby train tracks. "There is a train track very close to the site...If it wasn't for the trains coming by blowing their horns, this would easily be a favorite spot," advises Steven N. about the otherwise pleasant campground.

No firewood sales: Some campgrounds expect you to bring your own supplies. "They do not sell firewood and tell you to go to the woods to get your own - Disappointed in that," notes Jennifer M. about Cedar Ridge Campground.

Tips for camping with families

Look for playground access: Springfield Route 66 KOA offers family-friendly amenities. "This KOA is clean with wonderful parks and a nice pool. It was a great place to stay while driving to our destination," recommends Courtney G.

Consider tent-specific areas: Crabtree Cove offers different camping experiences based on loop selection. "The campground is setup in 2 loops, non electric and electric, so if your a tent camper your not surrounded by noisy air conditioners running," advises Bryan C.

Dog friendly campgrounds near Dadeville: The Happy Camper welcomes pets in a more intimate setting. "Our dog Lilly went and had a great time so dog friendly. Come here to relax, especially if you don't want to stay at a big RV park," shares Erin J. about this pet-friendly option near Stockton Lake.

Cabin alternatives: For families seeking more amenities with pets, Springfield Route 66 KOA offers additional options. "We got the glamping tent. There was a lot of cats hanging around. And a train every couple hours but we did enjoy it," notes Randel B. about the alternative accommodation options at this pet-welcoming property.

Tips from RVers

Water access planning: Cedar Ridge Campground requires preparation. "Sites are power only, water and dump separate. Campground has private boat ramp and parking away from public use so things stay secure overnight," advises Cody about Cedar Ridge's RV setup.

Site leveling considerations: Check campground reviews for leveling information when bringing an RV. "It was a KOA Patio site (a cement patio area with a table, chairs, and fire pit) that had city water, sewer, and electric. The lot was well cared for and my spot was incredibly flat/level," shares Steven N. about his experience at Springfield Route 66 KOA.

Pet-friendly campgrounds with hookups: Most dog friendly campgrounds near Dadeville offer varying levels of amenities. Josh S. notes about Cedar Ridge: "We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of space some of the sites have between them. Some spots are right on the lake water and some are off in the woods a little bit more, which does somewhat provide a dispersed camping experience."
