Best RV Parks & Resorts near Mayer, MN

Several RV parks surround the Mayer area with full-service accommodations. Dakotah Meadows RV Park in Prior Lake features concrete pads with full hookups including 50-amp service across its spacious sites. "This is a really nice campground with cement parking pads with full hookups. The grass around the lots is very green, lush and well maintained," noted one visitor about the level sites. Codgers Cove RV Resort in Howard Lake provides sewer hookups, electric, and water for big rigs, though rates run higher at $70-80 per night according to recent reviews. St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park offers seasonal operation from May through mid-October with pull-through sites that accommodate larger motorhomes, while Cokato Lake RV Resort Cooperative Association maintains 225 sites with both 30 and 50-amp electrical options.

Advance reservations are strongly recommended for weekend stays at most parks in the region. Baker Park Campground in Medina provides electric hookups and water with a dump station on premises, operating from late April through October. Cell service varies throughout the area, with better connectivity reported at parks closer to the Twin Cities. RV wash facilities are available at Dakotah Meadows, which also offers on-site fuel pumps—convenient for travelers passing through. Most parks accommodate pets with designated areas, though rules vary by location. For those seeking proximity to Minneapolis attractions, campgrounds in Prior Lake and Medina provide relatively easy access, with visitors noting they serve well as base camps for Twin Cities exploration while still offering reasonable rates compared to urban accommodations.

    Fish Lake Acres Campground

    Quiet, Lake Views

This campground is great especially when compared with state park camping. Full hookups available, quite a few pull through lots and close to the twin cities! No wifi, so make sure you've got decent cell service and hotspot if you need internet/wifi. Verizon gets ok coverage here, T-Mobile does too. Showers/bathhouses are clean and the hot water runs forever and not coin operated or push button like some others I've been to! Bonus! Good toilet paper in the bathrooms not the cheap stuff. The lake is literally out your door and they do have a small swimming beach and boat launch. MN Horse and Hunt club is about a mile or so up a trail access that is Almosy directly across from the camp entrance. There is an ATM there along with a bar and restaurant. Be prepared to hear gunshots regularly but it's not really bothersome unless you aren't prepared for it. The trail to the club is safe to walk though. The campground ONLY accepts cash so be sure to hit the ATM before you get here. They also charge $2 extra per dog if you have them. Nightly rate for the full hookup site I had was $32 with the dog. They charge .50 c per log for firewood. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The staff are really nice and laid back. It's a really nice little campground!

    Ham Lake Resort

Well Rounded RV Park and Campground

My partner and I scheduled a 3 day / 2 night stay in a new Vintage Cruiser RV for $39.99, in exchange for attending a presentation on private membership.

We checked in Wednesday evening, and the nicest staff I've ever met helped us acclimate to RV living. We are new to this game. They patiently described how to utilize the grey and black water tanks, as well as encouraged us to check-out the canoes, row boats, bikes, horseshoes, ladder golf and many other entertainment items - for FREE!

The map provided was accurate which made locating the cruiser a breeze. There were further instructions inside as well. The RV was immaculate. Provided for our use were all linens (a public very clean bath and shower was just across the road), dish soap, dish towels, paper towels, flat wear, plates, bowls, mugs and pans.

The campground has a couple of ponds, as well as access to Ham Lake where the watercraft is launched. There is a petting arena with goats, ponies, and a llama who gave my partner the stink eye, but fell in love with me rubbing the fence and giving me all googly eyes!

The clubhouse sells bundled wood, ice, snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and provides 24-hour fresh coffee. There is also a small resupply area, and gift shop.

There are pull-through sites, back ups, 50 and 30 amp hook ups, and tent sites, covered pavilions, picnic tables and fire pits.

The campground itself seems remote, secluded and peaceful, however, you are conveniently located to two well-stocked convenience stores, as well as Wal-Mart about 15 minutes away. It's also only about 45 minutes from the Minnesota Twin Cities.

One note: We visited in August and needed gallons of bug spray.

We very much enjoyed our get away!

    Spirit of Ripley

    Small and family owned

Nice large grass pads, easily accessible for big rigs! Close to the lake(mom and I went for some bike rides around the lake) and public boat access. Each site had a picnic table and a fire ring provided. All sites have power, water, and sewer hook ups.

    Ann Lake

    Rustic & Family Friendly

This is a great little rustic campground within an hour's drive of the Twin Cities! It has several potable water sources throughout the campground, but no running water for toilets or showers. There are several vault toilets. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. You can buy firewood & ice at the Sand Dunes Stop gas station, just a 10 minutes drive away.

This is a first-come, first-served campground, so no reservations required. This does mean that there is a chance you won't be able to get a site, but I've only had that happen one time when I got there at 6pm on a Saturday. There are usually sites available.

I love going to this campground - it's family friendly, and there is a swimming beach a quick 3 minute drive away! The hiking trails aren't half bad, either! I love coming here to relax for a weekend, spend some time at the beach, and just enjoy nature. If you go in the early to mid summer, you'll also hear local whip-poor-wills serenade you to sleep.

Overall, 4 stars. The only downsides are no running water and no ice & firewood at the campground itself.

    Lebanon Hills Regional Park

    Friendly staff & quiet

Great location for easy access to mountain bike trails. Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Nice trail within the campground. Some sites are more shaded than others in the east loop so look at photos if you want shade. Sites that back up to the green space are very sunny. 87 is a great site! Plenty of space for a trailer or tent with a private “nook” for the fire pit.

    Lake Elmo County Park Reserve

    Great for the kiddos

For a County Park, Lake Elmo has an impressive list of amenities. Before we even get to the campsite let's mention the filtered swimming pond. This man made pond is a sandy bottom and surrounded by a nice sand beach. Large built in umbrellas are available for sun coverage and there is a concession stand and bathrooms with showers. And yes, as I mentioned the water is filtered! No gross goose poop or green algae to deal with! Next to the swim pond is a giant playground with fun for the big and little kids. Other amenities include archery, horse trails, paved and grass trails, camper spots, rustic spots and hike in camping spots. In winter the xc ski trails are lit for evening skiing. Or let's be honest early afternoon. It is Minnesota and the suns down by 4 In the Winter! They also have a newer Nordic center that's open all year round and includes a locker room with showers. The hike in camp spot we chose was on a small lake so it had a nice breeze and made it easy to bring a kayak or paddleboard and hop right in. There is also a boat launch for your larger toys! The trails in the park are quite impressive for its size. We enjoyed a 5 mile loop off the Nordic center and right past the camp spot. A picnic table and fire pit as well as nice flat tent pad were provided. If you're coming in from out of town then you're just a 5 minute drive from Woodbury and all the amenities you'd ever need but the park feels miles away from it all.

    Minneapolis Northwest KOA

    Good Campground but Close Sites

Sites are close to each other, but easy access, clean grounds and facilities, friendly staff, and a K9 fenced area for a pet friendly campground.

    Masonic West River Park

    Riverfront!!

Amazing campsite! Sites are large and grassy! We had a lakeview site right off the paved walking/biking trail with room for a large tent and the pop-up camper. Fire ring and picnic table provided. A man drives through the campsite close to dusk to sell firewood as there is no traditional office. Bathrooms and showers are located near the dump station and dumpster. Be on the lookout for the code for the doors during your reservation process. We had missed it and had to ask a neighbor if they knew the codes so we could shower.

Guide to Mayer

Camping opportunities surround Mayer, Minnesota, a small community located in Carver County about 35 miles west of Minneapolis. The region features gently rolling terrain with elevations ranging from 900-1,100 feet and experiences warm summers with temperatures typically reaching the mid-80s Fahrenheit. Most RV campgrounds near Mayer, Minnesota operate seasonally from late April through October due to harsh winter conditions.

What to do

River activities: tubing and kayaking: Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River offers tubing excursions where campers can float back to the campground. "The river is very clean and sandy bottom. The tubing is a plus. Had one issue with power dropping so we had to pull the surge protector off," notes one visitor who enjoyed the river experience.

Quarry Park exploration: Nearby attractions include natural areas with unique features. "We stayed here to visit the nearby quarry park and that was a blast!" mentions a visitor at St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park, highlighting accessible day trips from camping bases.

Biking trails: Baker Park Reserve offers extensive paved routes for cycling enthusiasts. "There are nice paved trails around a couple of lakes/ponds for biking, and easy access to the shower and bathroom facilities," explains a reviewer who appreciated the recreational infrastructure at Baker Campground.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness consistently earns positive feedback. "Clean bathrooms with hot water, clean laundry room," reports a visitor to St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park, highlighting amenities that enhance comfort during stays.

Concrete parking pads: Level sites with durable surfaces reduce setup challenges. "Large sites. The sites are paved and have well-maintained grass. We were located near the casino road," notes a camper at Dakotah Meadows RV Park, mentioning both the convenience and occasional road noise.

Activities for children: Many campgrounds prioritize family-friendly amenities. "BIG playground area, indoor game room, HUGE sites! You can either relax in the pool or even take a ride down the rum river in a rented canoe, tube, or kayak," shares an enthusiast at Country Camping RV Park.

What you should know

Varying cell service: Connectivity differs between campgrounds, particularly at sites farther from urban areas. "Wifi is not great, less than 1MB download speeds from our site, and our Verizon service was pretty poor in our spot, max 2 bars," reports a camper at Dakotah Meadows RV Park.

Power capacity during peak times: During hot weather, electrical systems may become strained. "We had one issue with power dropping so we had to pull the surge protector off then it was fine. Also very hot and humid so everyone was running AC to the max," explains a visitor describing their summer experience.

Pricing variations: Costs can fluctuate significantly between properties. "Just passing through, great lake location but $80 was kind of high," mentions a reviewer at Codgers Cover RV Resort, indicating the premium pricing at certain facilities.

Tips for camping with families

Heated pools for unpredictable weather: Minnesota temperatures can vary, making heated swimming options valuable. "Heated pool, lake with beach, boat launch area just block away, tennis/pickle ball, mini golf, resort store with ice cream," lists a visitor describing family amenities at Cokato Lake RV Resort Cooperative Association.

Playground accessibility: For families with young children, play areas provide essential activity spaces. "Nice park for kids just a small hike away. Plus a decent amount of rentals," notes a Baker Campground visitor, indicating convenient access to recreational facilities.

Store provisions: On-site stores reduce travel needs for forgotten items. "Freezer pizzas can be cooked at the store or bring one home for later. All the incidentals and condiments you might need," explains a visitor to Cokato Lake RV Resort, describing food options that simplify meal planning.

Tips from RVers

RV wash facilities: Long-distance travelers appreciate cleaning options. "There is fuel on site as well as RV wash station. Bath house and laundry and card controlled ($5 card deposit on check in)...well maintained facilities," mentions a visitor to Dakotah Meadows RV Park.

Site selection strategy: Choosing specific sites can enhance camping experiences. "We have a pop up so we parked on a grassy spot next to the cabins that backed up to a field. It was nice to be there instead of in the thick of the big camper section," suggests a St. Cloud-Clearwater RV Park visitor who preferred quieter locations.

Overnight convenience options: For travelers needing brief stops, truck stop camping provides basic amenities. "Love's is open 24 hours and has most things you would need. There is also a Hardee's if you need dinner!" notes a visitor to Love's RV Hookup in Rockville, highlighting practical overnight options for those traversing the Mayer area.
