Navigation considerations include site slope at some locations, with one camper reporting: "We had a site that sloped down toward the lake; had to use our traction boards to level the van as best we can." Pet policies differ between parks - Jackson KOA, Welcome Campground, and Kilen Woods all permit pets, while some facilities maintain restrictions.

    Korte's Checkers Welcome Campground

    Worth a Stop

Very polite staff. Roads are nice. Facilities are clean. Sites are pull through but are set up with utilities for back in sites. $40 a night. It looked like some campers were extended stays. Good Verizon signal and right off Interstate 90.

    Tuttle Lake Park

    Nice

Clean well maintained bath house with showers. My site was 30 amp. Water and dump are separate..$20 I stayed in a 26' B+. All sites are back in on grass. Heavy big rigs could sink if wet. None are very level. Length no a problem. 3 bars at&t.quiet out of the way place on a nice lake. Lake view obscured by trees. I would stay here again

    Great holiday campaite

Park is privately owned and operated but shares a park with the city. Big events during holidays. Sites are well spaced for campers and renters alike. Jackson KOA

Alright but not the best for a KOA

We go in early in the afternoon after traveling from Madison WI.

The KOA seemed alright but I was very disappointed in the long term/ Full time RVs parked there.  Some were alright but a couple of pretty dumping ones.

They were not full and I can understand the reason.

The facilities seemed to be well maintained.  The pool and playground were very nice and the sites we stayed around were fine.  It was just those few trailers that gave it that run downed feeling. If they took care of those even made them clean the area around them and wash them it  would go up a star or 2.

The internet was iffy again and I guess we will just have to live with that though I did expect more from a KOA.

That night they did have live entertainment but we did not know about it until they started to play.  It was locals I think that lived there and was like a jam session.

    Schreier's On Shetek Campground

    Great Park, Mostly Seasonals

We visited here before the fishing opener, so while most of the spots were occupied by long term RVs, very few people around. We were told from fishing opener until the fall the place is busy. Family owned and operated park. Amenities include playground, fish cleaning house, paddleboat and canoe rentals, hiking trails.

    Korte's Checkers Welcome Campground

Great value as Passport America member

This is a small private campground that offers a quiet nights stay.  Site size was moderate with some shade, a fire ring, picnic table, on a level gravel pad.  $20 per Passport America members for FHU is sweet.  The grounds were well cared for and was not to far from the interstate but far enough away that there was little noise.

    Plum Creek Park Campground

    Nice County park.

Hiking, biking, canoeing, disc golf, playground..... All sorts of fun stuff. Clean park and facilities. Must full hookup sites are occupied by seasonal renters. The park appears full but while we were here I saw 3 other people. The daily sites are 30 and 50 electric only. There is a fresh water fill spigot on the bathroom closest to the daily sites.. There's also a dump station onsite. 2.5 miles from Walnut Grove if you're visiting the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. T-Mobile 40mbps download and Verizon 5mbps download.

Guide to Jackson

Dispersed camping options near Jackson, Minnesota include several RV parks with varying seasonal operations and amenity levels. The region sits in southwestern Minnesota at approximately 1,400 feet elevation with prairie landscapes and small lakes. Weather conditions often include strong winds across the open terrain, particularly during spring and fall seasons.

What to Do

Hiking at Kilen Woods: The state park offers multiple trail options through oak savanna and prairie landscapes. "Beautiful small park" with "prairie, river and oak savanna views" according to a visitor. "The entire park can easily be hiked in a day," noted another camper at Kilen Woods State Park Campground.

Biking in Jackson: The town features connected bike paths that campers can access directly from their sites. "We unloaded our bikes and enjoyed the bike trails that encircle and go through Jackson," shared a camper at the local KOA. These paved trails connect to town amenities and parks.

Disc golf at Plum Creek: The county park maintains a disc golf course among its recreational offerings. A visitor at Plum Creek Park Campground mentioned, "Hiking, biking, canoeing, disc golf, playground... all sorts of fun stuff" in their review, making it a versatile destination for outdoor activities.

What Campers Like

Clean facilities: Campgrounds in the Jackson area consistently receive positive reviews for cleanliness. At Emerson Bay, a camper reported "bathrooms are IMPECCABLE, someone was out cleaning the shower house at 11pm one night." Another noted Emerson Bay State Recreation Area Campground has "spaces were clean, bathrooms were nice."

Helpful staff: Local campground personnel often receive praise for their assistance. One visitor at Welcome Campground mentioned "very polite staff" while another noted "super nice lady, owner?, checked me in and was super nice." This level of service enhances the camping experience.

What You Should Know

Seasonal limitations: Most RV campgrounds near Jackson operate from early spring through mid-fall. Plum Creek Park offers more amenities but has limited availability for non-seasonal campers: "Most full hookup sites are occupied by seasonal renters."

Weather considerations: The open prairie landscape can create challenging weather conditions. Windy days are common, and summer heat requires shade planning. Campers at Kilen Woods noted "it was HOT, but there is a tree in the center of Site 7 that offered shade."

Swimming options: Beach access varies by location. At Everett Park, campers appreciate being "right on the lake" with "a nice place right on the lake" for water activities. Plum Creek Park features "a swimming beach" though seasonal conditions may vary.

Kid-friendly parks: Some campgrounds specifically cater to families. A camper noted that Plum Creek Park is an "excellent campground for kids" and features "great sites, trails, a swimming beach, and playground equipment."
