    Pierz Park

Too many kids driving golf carts.

First the negatives. No internet, medium phone signal. The campsites are too small and too crowded. The adults let their young kids drive their cold carts and atvs back and forth from the campground to the beach all day long. I counted one particular one make 34 trips in less than 6 hours. I used to golf and I occasionally used a cart but usually I walked. Kids and young parents are way too lazy now, because it's a small campground and short walk to the beach from the farthest site. I think they do it for 2 reasons, they are bored, and they can. There is only one road in and out so there is constant traffic, and the road is gravel so prepare to eat dust. The sites aren't paved or even gravel, you park on the grass. Now for the positives. Some sites have 50 amp, most just 30 amp or less. Water hookups at most. No full hookups or dump site. There is a beach and swim area on Skunk Creek. A playground by the bathroom and showers. That building is clean, showers are free. Lots of shade from all the trees. Mosquitoes are few, flies plentiful. It is a quiet park after 10pm, but although they say closed after 8pm there was traffic all night long. Ask for a site in the back to avoid headlights shining on you all night long. Rates are $40/night for the pull through site we had w50 amp service. It has a few seasonal sites, all located at the rear. There is a golf course right next door across the creek. That is where the office is located. The town is small, only a gas station and small grocery store, so bring what you need. A Subway and nice drive-in are close by. Oh, the water is in me/my dogs opinion not for drinking. I wouldn't suggest weekends here unless you're into hearing every conversation your neighbors have or want to sleep in. Maybe the week days are better? They do allow leashed pets.

Park’s designers hav never been in an RV

The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. This place pushes all of my buttons for things not to do when building an RV park.

Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You’re trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there. Additionally, the site number pedestals for each site are right against the corner of the driveway where you have to back around them without being able to see them. Number pedestals for all sites are also right against the road, limiting the amount that you can swing your tow vehicle to the opposite side of the road to back into the site.  I will guarantee that not one person on the design team has ever backed, a travel trailer or fifth wheel into an RV site. The owners should have checked the credentials of the designers they hired. If they did, they were lied to. If they didn’t, then they just didn’t care about their customers.

Finally, one of my all-time favorites, all of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill. These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level  so that your sewage can flow downhill.

If you were here to spend an evening gambling at the casino, the place is roomy and well maintained. If you just want to spend the night, and not spend half of it trying to get into your site and set up, there’s got to be someplace close that would be better to go. We won’t be back.

    Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

    Father Hennepin State Park Campground

    Great getaway from the city

Right on Lake Mille Lacs, one of Minnesota’s largest. Walking distance from the bakery and bar! Newer, updated facilities. Boat access. Lake side sites (if you book early enough). You can hit Mille Lacs State Park if you want to knock them both out on one trip! This park seems to attract a lot of long term campers, as I’m sure it’s pretty reasonable to stay at the lake all summer. We went mid-July I think and the trees were literally raining caterpillars… it was tough to want to hang out in our tree canopy-covered site. Sooo.. we ventured outside of the park more at this one.

There was a festival going on in a town west of here that had a couple rides and a really fun patio bar. If you do decide to venture out at night, ask the bartender for the limo driver’s number; he’s the city’s “uber”!

    Banning State Park Campground

    Winter camping

This is a great place for winter camping! The campsites are large enough (despite the snow) to set up suitable winter tents, and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In the park, there's a lot of ice climbing and cross country skiing. If you take a short walk from the main parking area towards the bathroom, and follow the trail alongside the bluff, you'll find awesome spots to climb and likely a lot of dedicated adventurers. Nearby the campsite you have a great water source, and a lot of peace and quiet at night despite being close to a residential area and town.

    Moose Lake City Park

    Will come again!

We stayed in site 27 and it was perfect for our truck, 40ft fifth wheel camper, and utv trailer. Its nice that the campground allows utv/atv access. If you are double pulling with a atv/utv trailer it is very challenging to use the dump station!!

Only downfall was all the goose poop and bugs, but thats to be expected on the lake. The weekend host and his wife were very nice people!

    Grand Casino RV Resort

    Rocking RockTember Music Festival

We booked our stay at the RV Resort so we wouldn't have to drive two and a half hours back and forth during the two day Grand RockTember Music Festival. *Please note when there's an event, book early!! This RV Resort has 271 RV/Camping full hook up sites that include a picnic table and fire pit. The sites are very close together with little to no privacy, but it did a fine job as we were there for the concert. Guest Services were super friendly when we checked in, and they give you a pass card to enter & exit the Resort. There is 24 hour security, and shuttle bus service to the casino, although we enjoyed the 1/2 mile walk to the amphitheater. All the sites are back in only, and are a tight squeeze for bigger rigs. They enforced the quite hours well, and we got a good nights sleep. There's a heated outdoor pool, and small convince store in the guest services building. They have a pet walking area, and kennels if you want to spend time at the casino. The bathhouse offered private toilet stalls and showers, and we squeaky clean!!! If you like to golf, don't miss the 18 hole Grand National Golf Course next door. We enjoyed our stay, and will be back again.

    Cross Lake Recreation Area

Crowded but clean. Gets quiet after 10 PM.

Could just be the current political budget restraints but I tent camped Gull Lake RA for four nights never saw a Ranger. Here there is a security gate you have to go through before you enter and multiple Rangers. Could be that were so close to town here. highway traffic noise even at furthest site. I will ask about dispersed camping and try to report back. They have shower facilities here just like a gull lake. Yes that means noisy Motorhomes, and travel trailers at all sites.

Mille Lacs Kathio Petaga Campground — Mille Lacs Kathio State Park

Winter camping- very quiet with the electric hookups

This is one campground in Minnesota that offers a handful of electric hookups for winter camping. The beauty of this campground, is that while the campsites available are in a row, there's plenty of space between sites and some of them are even pulled through. Making it easy for RVs to pull in and hook up.

The vault toilet is not easy to find from where the electric openings are in the winter. While these spaces are right next door to a shower house with toilets, this is closed in the winter. The vault toilet is several rows over and down, making it hard to find if you don't already know where it is. But it was clean, and it was available.

The campfire rings seemed clean, and each had a picnic table as well. We loved the pull-through site because then we were a little more protected from the road, although it's not busy this time of year at all. So it was very quiet except for our neighbors, and they didn't make much noise at all.

There are trails nearby that are easily accessible on foot from the campground, and you can make loops that come back to the campground as well.

There are two campgrounds at this park, but this is the one that has availability in the winter time. Ironically, they also have a couple of walk-in spots that are also open this time of year. If you're willing to brave the temps without an electric hookup. Not hard to find, not hard to access, but no electric hookups at these sites.

Guide to Isle

RV sites near Isle, Minnesota offer diverse camping options within central Minnesota's wooded lake region. These campgrounds sit amid the region's numerous lakes and rivers, with most located between 45-50° north latitude and elevations around 1,200 feet. Winter camping is limited by Minnesota's severe cold temperatures, though some locations remain open year-round with special accommodations for ice fishing enthusiasts.

What to do

Ice fishing excursions: Hidden Bay RV Resort attracts winter camping enthusiasts. "I'm talking winter camping on the lake on the Ice in an 'Ice castle' catching walleye. Had a great time fishing in the camper (Ice Castle) well plowed roads, nice showers. Lots of other ice fisherman in January and February," reports Michael V., who caught numerous slot fish during his winter stays at Hidden Bay RV Resort.

Golf getaways: The campground at Minnesota National Golf Course provides full hookup RV sites within the course grounds. "The 27-hole golf course was in good shape and fun to play. McGregor is about 15 minutes away and has grocery, gas, hardware store, and restaurants," notes MickandKarla W. The course features both challenging 18-hole play and an easier 9-hole Savannah course.

River tubing: Several campgrounds offer river activities, particularly along the Rum River. Country Camping Tent & RV Park provides tubing opportunities with convenient amenities. "The tubing is a plus. Key thing is the river is very clean and sandy bottom," writes David G. about his experience at this family-friendly campground.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate larger camping sites in the area. At Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River, Spencer C. notes, "HUGE sites! You can either relax in the pool or even take a ride down the rum river in a rented canoe, tube, or kayak. Max trailer length that I've seen here is 70'. Anyone can fit in here!"

Pet amenities: Several campgrounds offer dog-friendly features that go beyond basic pet policies. Janet R. discovered exceptional pet facilities at Banning RV Park: "There was a huge dog walking and play area that was grassy and beautifully clean—and, of special interest, included a complete dog playground with all the standards elements of a dog agility course!"

Proximity to attractions: Campgrounds near Isle provide good access to regional destinations. The St. Cloud Campground & RV Park serves as a convenient base for exploring the area. "On the outskirts of St Cloud, this campground was very well maintained and clean. They have a pool, lodge, bath house and laundry facilities," according to Amanda S., who noted the sites were "much larger than data KOA."

What you should know

Water hookup challenges: Some campgrounds have unusual water connection setups. At Banning RV Park and Campground, Sam C. encountered unexpected issues: "We were quick to learn that water hookups were shared with other sites and required 'y' connections at the spigots. Ours source ended up being 75' plus from our RV. Thankfully I just happened to be carrying the extra hose."

Site layout considerations: Minnesota National RV Park requires specific equipment lengths. "The utilities are in the back of pad in this CG, so you may need 20+ feet of electric, sewer, or water cord/hose depending on your rig's configuration. The sewer grade is a bit up hill," notes MickandKarla W.

Cell service quality: Mobile coverage varies significantly by location. Bret S. reports from Minnesota National RV Park: "This is a relatively new (2016?) campground built right next to the Minnesota National Golf Course clubhouse. We got 3 bars LTE on Verizon and no CG WiFi."

Tips for camping with families

Heated pool access: Rum River RV Park and several other campgrounds offer swimming pools that appeal to families. At Country Camping, Beasty B. found "great playground and heated pool the spaces were well kept and spaced apart 10-10 would most defiantly go again! A ton for the kids to do!"

Playground equipment: Many RV parks cater to families with dedicated play areas. Elizabeth W. recommends St. Cloud Campground: "Nice facilities including 2 bathroom facilities, playground, volleyball court, dog walking area, baseball field, a lodge with games and a store, and a hall where they hold bingo and other events."

Indoor recreation: Several campgrounds offer indoor options for rainy days. Country Camping features an "indoor game room" alongside outdoor amenities, making it versatile for changing weather conditions, which can be common in central Minnesota.

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Some RV sites require attention to leveling equipment. At Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort, MickandKarla W. observed, "We drove to FHU site 38 and backed in one and done. Our utilities were at the back of the site, and we needed about 35' of electric and water hose. The sewer was more central, and I needed about 18' of sewer hose for our rig."

Site selection strategies: Some RV parks have better sites for specific needs. At Banning RV Park, Crystal W. found that "our site was a fairly level pull through, full hook up site." This contrasts with other reviewers who encountered uneven terrain at the same campground.

Satellite reception variables: RVers using satellite internet should consider tree coverage. MickandKarla W. noted at Minnesota National RV Park that "the 44-50 loop more towards the golf course had fewer trees to block satellite," while they needed to maneuver their Starlink dish at their more wooded site to "get a good north shot of the sky."
