Rippling Rivers RV Resort accommodates larger motorhomes with spacious sites and full hookups. "Open, level gravel sites and some concrete pads scattered throughout this pretty new campground. We stayed in a full hook up 50 amp site, and experienced no power issues despite 2 days of freakishly high winds."

Between May and October, most RV parks in the region maintain regular operations, with limited options during winter months. Power limitations can affect air conditioning use during peak summer demand, particularly at older facilities like Munising Tourist Park Campground. Based on reviews from The Dyrt, visitors should be prepared for variable cell service throughout the region, with parks farther from town offering minimal connectivity. Dump stations are available at multiple locations including Bay Furnace and Picture Rocks RV Park, though some may charge non-guests a fee. Many campgrounds near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore fill completely during summer weekends, requiring reservations months in advance. Pet-friendly options exist throughout the area, though policies vary regarding leash requirements and designated pet areas.

    Kingston Lake State Forest

    Good State Forest CG

Kingston SF in Pictured Rocks NP buffer zone. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good (70 yr olds in 17’ trailer). I rate primarily based on desire for at least a moderate wilderness type experience w at least some camp site privacy. Cleanliness and care of campground are also taken into consideration. Overall Rating: 4.5. Looks to be on a piece of land that stretches out into Kingston lake. Price 2023: $20 Usage during visit: 3/4 full Site Privacy: pretty good Site Spacing: most sites are very well spaced. Site surface: Dirt covered Gravel Reservations: First come Campground Noise: Quiet Road Noise: None Through Traffic in campground: No. Boat ramp is at cg entry. Electric Hookup: No Sewer Hookup: No Dump Station: No Potable Water Available: A hand pump Generators: ? Bathroom: Pit toilet. Clean Showers: No Pull Throughs: A couple Cell Service (AT&T): No bars Setting: Amazing lake setting. Weather: Partial sun o my Sept 2 visit Solar: Not for fixed panels Host: I didn’t see one. Rig size: 25’ max. Looks too tight for a big rig. Sites: Along lake or Water View: 1-7, 11- 16 , 8,11. All sites, I would be pleased with any site here. Not super private, but so many are right along the water and most of not all have a view of the water . Site 5 looks to have a water view from the campground road. But, it is the most private.

    Little Bay De Noc

    AbsolutelyBeautiful

We were by ourselves on the first loop site #6. Short walk to sandy beach. (Less than 25-30Yds). Deer in camp when we arrived. $21/night. 1/2 price for those with senior National park pass. Nice fire ring with grill and picnic table. About 1/3 of the 38 sites are first come, rest reservable. Only 2 other campers in area end of September. Could fish, swim or do boating from the site. Need gen if you want electric. No dump station but private campgrounds close and perhaps would let you dump for a fee. Several trails. Lighthouse at end of peninsula about 11 mi away. Fairly level sites. Tent pads with pine needles. Big rigs likely would fit but very narrow and tight squeeze. Length and slides not an issue as sites are large.

    Munising Tourist Park Campground

Nice campground, but it can't handle all the electrical draw for every site

This is a busy campground right on Munising Bay on Lake Superior. Reservations for the busy season need to be made months in advance, and even reserving 6 months before our arrival date, we got the last spot. We have a 22 foot travel trailer, so we can fit onto most any site, but this campground draws some huge rigs pulled by tractor trailers.

The people in the office are great. The beach on the bay is spectacular. Overall nice campground at a very good price.

But this is an older campground, and the electrical system can't handle the power draw from the big rigs. People at the end of the power line - beware! Bring your surge protector to protect your electrical system.

We were fine until day 3 where the temps hit 88 degrees, and the big rigs were running their double air conditioners, while we were running just our fridge, water heater and a fan. Draws about 6 amps. We didn't have enough power coming to our site even for that, and the surge protector shut everything down. Thank goodness it did it's job and protected the electrical system on the trailer. At one point the power coming into the site was only 98 instead of 120ish.

So while the big boys further up the line were running 2 air conditioners, we weren't getting enough power to run a water heater, fridge and a fan. We had to put our water heater and fridge onto propane and do without even a fan in 88 degree heat. Thank goodness our fridge and water heater can run on propane, and the lights work on DC, but the fan runs on 110, so it didn't work.

The people in the office were apologetic, and they said we should have power when it cools down and there aren't so many air conditioners running. That was small comfort when we were paying for a 50 amp site for our 30 amp trailer, and we couldn't even run a fan. At least the surge protector kept us from damaging the trailer electrical system - we hope!

Twelvemile Beach Campground — Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

    Gorgeous, off the grid.

This place is a gem. 50 minutes from Munising, makes the perfect camping spot for a pictures rocks trip.

Beautiful beach with all the privacy in the world. The best part about camping here was the Beach!

Another really nice amenity was the lantern posts next to the picnic table and the grill grate attached to the fire pit. Can’t recommend this place enough.

Some tips: DO NOT take 721 trail off Adams trail. Apple maps told us to take this route. It’s really only meant for atv’s and specialized off road vehicles. It would have saved 3 minutes off our total drive time. The local tow truck told us he comes here 3 times a week while he towed us out. And there’s no signal. It was pretty scary.

No running water in restroom, so pack some Clorox wipes.

Bugs are pretty bad on the non-lake side so try to get a site near the water.

Twelvemile Beach Campground — Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

    A much coveted campground

Gorgeous primitive sites in Pictured Rocks. No cell service for many miles. We stayed at site 19 lake side. A large private site with many trees. A short walk behind our site lead to a gorgeous overlook of Lake Superior. Great location near all of the beauty of Pictured Rocks. Campground had pit toilets, water, and lots of bear safe trash cans. There is no shower so bring your camp soap and shower or wash up in the lake. We picked up wood near Grand Marais, but you can find it for sale coming in from Munising too. Summer south winds may bring the stable flies. We had real problems when hiking and they were annoying at our site as well. If you have a screened in pop up, bring it. Be sure to check out the natural wonders but also the adorable town of Grand Marais. We hope to be back in fall when the flies may leave us alone.

    Manistique Lakeshore Campground

    Amazing small campground

There are a limited number of sites here, 6 for tents and the rest for RVs. We have a travel trailer and this was the easiest set up we’ve ever had. Each site has a long, paved, level pad for your camper and vehicle. The electric and water post is very nice organized. Sewer available at all electric sites. Tons of big rigs here bc the spots are spaced appropriately and easy to maneuver. Bathrooms and showers are the nicest I e ever used at a campground. But the jewel are the lake front campsites. We literally walked out our door to the sand beach. Our fire pit was located so we could chill and watch the lake while the kids jumped the waves in the long shallow sandy areas. Dunes are also behind some sites, which is fun for the kids to roll around in. Super dog friendly. Close to grocery and restaurants if needed, but still feel isolated despite the proximity to the highway. The sounds of the waves on the lake put us to sleep at night. A perfect camping paradise. The only downside is that this campground is always booked, so it’s hard to get a reservation. We booked in December for the following June, and all lakefront spots were booked already. A last minute cancellation meant we could snag the lakefront spot, and it’s amazing. Don’t hesitate if there’s a spot open, just book it!

    Fayette State Park Campground

    Beautiful State Park

Isolated, quiet park on Lake Michigan. Nicely spaced and shaded sites. Some level, many not so great. Big fire rings. Picnic tables. Electric hookups only. Bath and shower facilities very new and nice. Spotty phone service. Historic ghost town within walking distance of the campground. Many buildings open during the day with displays of what life was like when the town was occupied. Great history lesson and very interesting. Although town buildings were locked at night, you could still walk the streets. Spooky but fun! Sunsets on the lake are spectacular. Many hiking trails around the park. Not strenuous and fairly short. However, trails could use better markings.
