    Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

    Typical Fairgrounds Campground

This is a typical fairground campground with open grassy areas for campsites surrounded by barns and tracks. The fairgrounds is located just off I-94 which makes for easy entrance and exit to the campground, but, means there is lots of road noise. Close by are plenty of stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. In fact, there is a gap in the fence that runs around the fairgrounds allowing you to walk to a Walmart, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and more.

We arrived without a reservation and the women in the office was very helpful providing a map with all available sites during our stay and letting us choose which one we wanted. One of the first things you notice is that a number of people are here long-term so we went to the back area hoping it would be quieter and less crowded. A number of the campsites are “buddy” sites meaning your patio opens to your neighbors so be careful which one you pick. This is pretty undesirable when the neighbor is a total stranger so we chose a site where we didn’t have anyone next to us.

They offer 50 amp full hook-up sites, 50 amp/water, and 30 amp/water sites with pull-thru and back-in options. There is a dump station located in the middle of the park which is easy to get to. The roads are wide and a lack of trees makes this campground accessible for any size RV. The sites are level but some lack grassy making the patio pretty dusty or muddy. Unfortunately, where we were was pretty muddy just after a light rain. This campground works best for RV’s and not tents. For tenters there is a designated section that is set in a corner of the park with large trees for shade but not much privacy between you and others. A water spigot is in the tent area and there was one picnic table. The camp office sells firewood but we only saw two fire pits in the whole park. Be aware that noise from the interstate and nearby train tracks may make for a restless night. Bathrooms are centrally located in the campground and were old and tired but relatively clean. On-site laundry is available.

Apparently, management is having some issues with campers not obeying some of the rules. One of the sad things about this campground is that campers have to be reminded to clean up after their dogs. Apparently, it is such an issue that we got a letter stating that if you don’t pick up your dogs poop you would be asked to leave. How sad is that? There is free WiFi which worked pretty well. Upon checking in, we had to sign a piece of paper stating that we would not download copyrighted material or stream movies or we would be asked to leave.

My favorite aspect of this campground is that they had a community garden that you were welcome to pick from. We got tomatoes, Swiss chard, peppers, broccoli, and more. Overall, this campground was fine for the few nights we were here and close to the attractions we wanted to visit. We never felt unsafe even though it was close to major cities. We chose this campground because we wanted to go to Ann Arbor and Dearborn and it was a very convenient location.

    Pros:

    ·        Good location if you want to visit Ann Arbor and Dearborn

    ·        Close to interstate for easy access

    ·        Long, level sites that will fit any RV

    ·        Community garden you can pick from vegetables

    ·        Stores and restaurants are nearby (some within walking distance)

    Cons:

    ·        Lots of road noise from I-94

    ·        No trees for shade or privacy

    ·        Would not recommend for tent camping

    ·        Many campers are long-term

    ·        “Buddy” campsites with patios facing each other

    Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA

    Small basic campground near Toledo

Our site was $59.95 a night.

We were in Site# 504. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep. The site was easy to level. We were charged $25 additional for my jeep since we were towing the trailer. We also were charged $10 because we arrived at 1:25 PM and check-in is at 2 PM. The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience. We drove ourselves to our spot (no escort).

Our site was shaded with lots of trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring. They sell wood for $6 a bundle.

There is free WiFi, although not strong. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They pickup your garbage at your site daily before noon.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool but it is currently closed due to maintenance (although it just looked closed- no signs of maintenance being done).

There is a Playground. They also offer horseshoes, corn hole, giant jinga.

They have a basic general store. There are not scheduled activities for kids.

There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site.

The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes. This is an RV park with tent camping and cabins to rent.

They have one shower house. The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine. There are approximately 4 washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.50 to wash and $2.50 to dry a load.

They have a small fenced in dog park.

There isn’t tons to doin the actual city of Perryville. But Toledo is a 20 minute drive.

    Holiday RV Campground

    Nice Park

Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud.

Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    East harbor state park

Very clean. Close to everything you need close to ferry clean showers camp monitors were friendly sites are paved. 50/30 amp hookups Our site was just a standard electric site. They do have 150 full hook up sites or more. We made our reservations late we were not really concerned about water or sewer as we planned to use the camp ground facilities anyway. Fresh water is available to fill your holding tanks. Dump stations are easily acceptable as are water filling stations Big Boopers restaurant is a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If you do t feel like cooking it’s about a 10 min drive. Campground has very good WiFi. We have Verizon had very good reception inland and I. The islands. Bass island is a fun day trip. Sites were level left to right. Had a slight pitch front to back.

    Ted Ranch Campground

No thrills, largely rustic, family oriented, friendly

This campground is pretty rustic with water and electricity at some sites, no showers or restrooms, a dump station for one at a time, Porta potties scattered around, small beach, small boat launch, mostly appears to be seasonal sites without sewer or rustic sites. Some but not a lot of shade, rolling fields being made into smaller sized sites. Dogs and dogs pens are allowed, and they do not appear to have parents who are attentive or keep them from barking. Friendly staff and family of four owners.

Guide to Carleton

RV campgrounds near Carleton, Michigan offer a variety of landscapes from lakefront settings to rural countryside locations within driving distance. Most campgrounds in this region maintain operating seasons from April through October, though select facilities like Camp Lord Willing RV Park remain open year-round. Summer weekends typically experience higher occupancy rates, particularly during June when mayfly hatches can occur at waterfront locations.

What to do

Water activities at lakefront parks: Sterling State Park Campground provides direct Lake Erie access with a boat launch, fishing piers, and a sandy beach that's regularly maintained. "The park also has several public access areas and beaches. Hiking and biking trails are also present," notes camper Edward C.

Biking trails: Sterling State Park offers a bike path that connects to historic sites. "There is a bike path that will take you all the way to the Historic Rasin River Battlefield and then to downtown Monroe," explains a reviewer.

Family entertainment options: Harbortown RV Resort provides numerous recreation opportunities beyond camping. "This campground has everything! Go carts, playground, disc golf, pool, ext... Just a one night stay to visit a friend. If you have kids it is perfect!" writes Noel L.

Fishing spots: Multiple camping locations offer fishing access, with ponds and lake access. The region is known for bass and walleye fishing opportunities, particularly at lakefront campgrounds with designated fishing areas.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain well-kept bathrooms and amenities. At Harbortown RV Resort, visitors appreciate the upkeep: "The best, cleanest, well maintained, under control campground we've ever been to," reports Len B.

Pool facilities: Cedarlane RV Resort offers multiple swimming options for different age groups. "They have a great splash pad and wading pool for kids. There is a new Tiki Hut to get adult drinks," notes Jeffrey C.

Large sites: Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park accommodates various RV sizes with spacious sites. "The roads are wide and a lack of trees makes this campground accessible for any size RV. The sites are level but some lack grassy making the patio pretty dusty or muddy," according to a visitor.

Concrete pads: Military Park Camp Perry Lodging and RV Park features well-designed sites. "RV site is paved with electric hookup and water hook up on site. Waste dump on RV site as well. Very clean and maintained," says Tim W.

What you should know

Weather considerations: Strong winds are common at lakefront locations. "Finally, I've never been to this park when it wasn't very windy," mentions Edward C. about Sterling State Park.

Seasonal insect activity: Mayfly hatches can impact camping experiences in early summer. "First two nights were perfect but then the may flies hatched (in mid june) and covered everything," warns Kourtney D. about Sterling State Park.

Site variations: Holiday RV Campground has a mix of established and newer sites. "Older sites have plenty of shade. Newer areas have no trees," explains Denise F.

Noise factors: Highway proximity can affect some camping experiences. "Another big issue is how close it is to the expressway which is noisy and there are trains that go by during the night," cautions Trent T. about Harbortown RV Resort.

Tips for camping with families

Multiple playgrounds: Holiday RV Campground offers extensive play areas. "Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds," notes Sean N.

Kids' activities: Cedarlane provides numerous child-friendly options. "My daughter had fun doing the gem mining and playing in the pool and splash pad," shares Ashley R.

Beach considerations: Haas Lake Park RV Campground offers multiple lakes for family enjoyment. "Haas Lake is quiet, clean and has friendly staff who are ready to help anytime," says Christian C., while another camper notes, "This location has 4 lakes. There is plenty of nature."

Site arrangements for groups: Some campgrounds offer community-oriented layouts. "The round area's with the sites on the outside and common area on the inside make for a great group type setup," explains Gary E. about Haas Lake Park.

Tips from RVers

Electrical connections: Some campgrounds require adapters for power hookups. At Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA, visitors recommend bringing appropriate electrical adapters for the available hookups.

Pull-through availability: Many locations offer easier access sites. "Very large pull thru sites, laundry, pool, firewood, lots of convenience," notes Gordon D. about Harbortown RV Resort.

Site selection strategy: At Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA, experienced campers recommend a walk-through before selecting a site. "I would suggest to come in the park and drive through and pick a spot that you like before making reservations," advises a reviewer.

Hookup quality: The region offers various hookup options across its RV campgrounds. "Sites are nice and large paved slabs, most trees are immature offering little shade," mentions Nicole A. about Sterling State Park.
