The camping region surrounding West Boxford, Massachusetts offers a unique blend of coastal and wooded landscapes at elevations ranging from sea level to approximately 300 feet. Seasonal camping opportunities typically run mid-April through mid-October, with temperature ranges from 65-85°F during summer months. Winter closures are common throughout the region due to harsh New England weather conditions.
What to do
Boating access: Tuxbury Pond RV Campground allows campers to access their pond for recreational activities. "We chose this campground because we got a booking discount on the Dyrt app... boating pond, Horse shoe & Basketball court," notes Sara D. at Tuxbury Pond RV Campground.
Golf opportunities: Several campgrounds provide golf access within a short drive. Hidden Valley RV and Golf Park offers direct golf course access. "This campground is 1300 acres owned and operated by the Simonsen family in Derry, NH. The main attraction of this campground is the golf course of 9 or 18 holes. There is a pro shop, golf cart rentals, etc," writes Christy C. at Hidden Valley RV and Golf Park.
Beach proximity: Most coastal campgrounds are within 1-2 miles of beaches. "We rode bikes to Salisbury Beach and my young adult son rode his longboard to the beach," shares Ray C. about his stay at Beach Rose RV Park.
What campers like
Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain high standards for bathrooms and common areas. "Beautiful campground, clean facilities, decently priced. The pool, playground, bathrooms, and basketball court were all open and well maintained," reports Kristen L. about her experience at Tuxbury Pond RV Campground.
Pool amenities: Swimming pools provide an alternative to beach swimming. "Great campground, though spaces are small, place is clean, nice pool and staff is very friendly, helpful and responsive! It's only about a mile from the beach," says Ray C. about Beach Rose RV Park.
Family activities: Many campgrounds offer organized activities for families. "This is a great park to enjoy the fall colors. This park has a private feel with a gated access and keypad and buzzer to let you into the park," describes The G. about Thousand Trails Moody Beach.
What you should know
GPS navigation challenges: Some campgrounds have issues with mapping applications. "A little tip about GPS: if you're using Apple Maps, it will likely take you to a turn that is not the campground entrance, there's even a hand-written sign on someone's lawn that has directions to the entrance," warns Sara D. about navigating to Tuxbury Pond.
Reservation systems: Many campgrounds use third-party reservation systems with varying policies. "You do not get a choice during the online booking to choose the campsite to reserve & the site # is not included in the confirmation email," notes Sara D. about Tuxbury Pond's booking process.
Site variations: Campgrounds often have a mix of seasonal and transient sites with varying quality. "Half of the park is seasonal campers (which is a lot more cramped and more junked up) and the other half is for transients. The two sides are separated by a tree line where the tent sites are located," explains Nancy W. about Sea Coast Camping and RV Resort.
Tips for camping with families
Playground access: Several campgrounds offer well-maintained play areas. "Very happy with the facility and will be returning for sure," comments Tara K. about her experience at Woodmore Family Campground.
Entertainment options: Many campgrounds provide scheduled activities. "The live band was cool but we had golf carts & parked vehicles pretty much surrounding us & some right on our campsite, it was a little awkward. Then around 8, there was a gentleman that started setting up for a comedy show," shares Sara D. about entertainment at Tuxbury Pond.
Swimming beaches: Sandy Beach Campground provides lake access with swim areas. "The sandy beach is nice but the swimming area is quite weedy," notes Tammy in her review of Sandy Beach Campground.
Tips from RVers
Site selection strategy: Many RV parks have specific sections better suited for larger rigs. "The 30 amp sites are very close together. The campground layout is quite unusual, with campers parked lengthwise along the road. This means that you share the space where you sit outside with the camper behind you," explains Arno W. about Thousand Trails Moody Beach.
Site leveling considerations: Look for parks with level sites to avoid setup challenges. "Our site (#124) was one of the new sites which they had just completed. It was a gravel back-in which was plenty long and level," shares Nancy W. about Sea Coast Camping and RV Resort.
Off-season advantages: Visiting during shoulder seasons provides more space and availability. "We were there in the off-season (May) and didn't have any neighbors so it was pretty quiet," notes Nancy W. about Sea Coast Camping.
