Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Marksville, LA

Paragon Casino Resort's full-hookup RV sites welcome pets with spacious areas between campers, along with dog-friendly cabin accommodations. Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area Campground also accepts pets at its rustic camping area surrounded by swamp and woods. Most campgrounds in the region require pets to be leashed at all times, with waste disposal facilities available at established sites. Guests can enjoy walking their dogs along the boardwalk that connects Paragon's casino complex, campground and the Tunica Indian museum and ceremonial grounds. The campgrounds maintain clean facilities, with Gator Grounds RV Resort particularly noted for spotless grounds and bathrooms where pets are permitted throughout common areas, though not in pools or water features.

Dog owners camping at Chicot State Park find miles of pet-friendly hiking trails through wooded areas where dogs can explore on-leash, though wildlife encounters require vigilance with many alligators reported in the water and snake sightings on trails. The Spring Bayou area allows fishing with dogs nearby, though mosquitoes can be overwhelming during warm months and proper protection is essential for both humans and pets. Gator Grounds offers more developed facilities for pets with landscaped areas between sites and grassy spaces for walking dogs. Local veterinary services are available in Marksville and surrounding communities, with the closest emergency vet clinics in Alexandria, about 30 minutes southwest. Weather considerations include extremely hot summers where shaded sites become premium for pets, and occasional heavy storms requiring secure shelter options.

River View RV Park & Resort

    Great place!

This is the second time I have camped here and both times have been great! The park is on the banks of the Mississippi River just south of the bridge on the Vidalia. LA side. Great walking, biking, running path that you can follow under the bridge. Dog Park, playground for the kids, and pool. The staff always seem pleasant and there are plenty of squirrels, which my French Bulldog loves to chase. He’s a squirrel dog in his own mind! 🤣

River View RV Park & Resort

    Very nice RV park

This is a very nice RV Park. It’s big. Almost 150 sites, with water, sewer and 30/50 amp electric. There are also a few tent sites with electricity. It’s well kept-grass is mowed, grounds and facilities are clean. There is a playground, a dog park, pool and hot tub. Showers and bathrooms are nice. Laundry room, small grocery/gift shop. And a guest lounge. There is a paved walking trail along the river. There is also a public boat ramp about 1/4 mile away for access to the Mississippi. Internet was sport. With this many Class A motorhomes and people streaming media the server can’t keep up.

    Relaxing and charming!

We enjoyed this campground so much.  Helpful staff, clean campground and beautiful scenery on the Mississippi River looking over to Natchez, MS.

They have a dog park, fenced in area, to let them run and play.

River View RV Park & Resort

    Big Rig Friendly

Nice wide roads in the park so easy to access your site. Pool area is very nice. There are tables, chairs, rocking chairs and recliners for your use. There is a large shaded area if you don’t want to sit in the sun. The lawns throughout the park are very well maintained. Very level sites with shade. A very nice enclosed dog park along with many paths to walk your dog. Utilities all work well. Like most campgrounds, there are lots of cigarette butts on the ground and dog poop. I don’t understand why people can not pick up after themselves! WIFI is spotty along with the over air channels. There were many dead large limbs in the trees above our site. We had a bad rain storm and many fell onto our roof. Luckily, we had no damage.

    Lakeview Park

    PRETTY, BUT NOISY

Don't get me wrong, I am not antisocial, but when I go camping I really want the natural quiet of nature. It was pretty busy, with many people gathered and partying. Kids driving crazy on golf carts. Otherwise, the property is pretty. The sites are easily accessible (our camper is approximately 30 ft). The showers were not available d/t covid 19, but were there. Our site 12 was level and had full hookups. Pet friendly. Large trees. Store on site and snack shop near the beach. Very kid friendly.

Kincaid Lake Campground - Temporarily Closed

    Great weekend getaway

We spent last weekend at Kincaid Lake Campground in Kisatchie. We stayed on Loop A. It was a much busier campground than we expected. Loop B was completely full when we arrived and Loop A had around 5 or 6 spots open. The camp host was very nice and stopped in to check on us about 30-45 minutes after we arrived. Each site had water and electric. Spots for the camper are asphalt and there is a picnic table, grill, fire pit and lantern post at each site. The campground was clean and well maintained. It was pretty quiet day and night, even though there were lots of families with small children and pets. We will definitely be back!

    Indian Creek Recreation Area

    BEAUTIFUL, AND FULL

This campground has just reopened Tuesday, after being closed due to "the virus ". Typically there's no problem getting a campsite during the week, but let me tell you, it's full here now! We are in site number 52. Water and electricity only. Bathrooms and showers are open , but not too clean. Our site is good sized and quite level. A concrete table is on site, as is a decent sized fireplace. Pet and kid friendly. There are boat launches and kayak loading areas at most sites. There is a small beach area for campers and a larger beach area open to the public. Hiking trails are a car ride from this site.

The Wild Azalea Trail is south west of Alexandria, Louisiana on the edge of the Valentine Lake Recreation Area. There is a trail head with parking on the grass, nicely mowed but if it has rained it could be muddy. Primitive camping is permitted adjacent to the trail but campsites must be at least 30 feet from the trail center line.

    Tunica Hills Campground

    Campground was great!

Ms. Brenda is the best! This campground has all the amenities! Hot water is tricky but the coffee pot makes up for it. There’s a microwave as well. Most of all the sites are separated by the ravines. We hiked down to the creek from the site and also went on trail C at tunica. I wouldn’t recommend trail c if you have small kids unless you wear them in a pack. Brenda has wood you can purchase if you forgot or run out. We were right next to the bathroom, sink, and shower.

Guide to Marksville

Camping opportunities near Marksville, Louisiana exist along the diverse waterways that intersect this central Louisiana region at an elevation of about 50 feet above sea level. Most campsites sit among lowland forests with cypress trees and bayou vegetation that create distinct summer humidity patterns. Primitive camping options at Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area provide natural alternatives to the more developed RV resorts with different levels of site preparation and accessibility.

What to do

Fishing at multiple locations: Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area provides rustic fishing spots with minimal facilities but abundant wildlife. "If you like alligators, snakes, and other swamp critters, you will love it here. Secluded, with just 10 sites. Electric and water," notes a camper at Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area Campground.

Wildlife viewing from kayaks: Indian Creek Recreation Area offers water-based exploration with multiple launch points for personal watercraft. "We were able to launch our kayaks from our RV site," reports one visitor to Indian Creek, where the large reservoir provides calm waters suitable for beginners and families.

Hiking and mountain biking: Chicot State Park maintains extensive trail systems through varied terrain. "Miles of trails for hiking & biking. Even a paddle trail out on the lake... Lots of birds here," explains one visitor to North Campground — Chicot State Park, though they warn about "wasps, ticks, and chiggers" that require proper preparation.

What campers like

Spacious sites with privacy: Gator Grounds RV Resort provides well-maintained spots with landscaped separation. "It was incredibly clean and spots are all over level ground with gravel. Easy to book online," explains a reviewer at Gator Grounds RV Resort, where the spacing between sites creates a less crowded environment.

Entertainment and amenities: Paragon Casino Resort campground offers recreational options beyond standard camping. "The casino has a shuttle service to take you back and forth to the casino and it runs all day and most of the night. The casino itself has a movie theater, spa, entertainment venues, an arcade for families, restaurants and a coffeehouse," shares a camper at Paragon Casino Resort.

Water features for families: Seasonal water activities enhance summer camping options. "Summer is awesome because of the outdoor AND indoor water park. Fall has been great because of the nice fire pits and we are now a huge fan of their Halloween celebration," notes a Gator Grounds visitor, highlighting year-round appeal beyond just summer water activities.

What you should know

Weather impacts: Summer heat affects comfort levels across all campgrounds from May through September. "The only down side is that it can get a little crowded and noisy on busy weekends," explains a visitor to North Campground at Chicot State Park, where weekday stays often provide quieter experiences.

Insect preparation essential: Bug protection should be considered mandatory equipment. "The cleanliness of the primitive camp sites is unsurpassed. Beautiful views of the lake can be seen from almost all primitive sites. We were visited by raccoons one night, but they were easily & quickly scared away," explains a camper at Indian Creek Recreation Area.

Variable campsite quality: Site conditions can differ dramatically even within the same campground. "We camped at site 363, not too bad, definitely needs upgrades. Not enough space between campers to even light a fire. There are miles of beautiful hiking trails, but beware of snakes!" warns a camper at North Campground — Chicot State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Beach areas for children: Several campgrounds maintain designated swimming zones with monitoring. "The cleanliness of the primitive camp sites is unsurpassed. Beautiful views of the lake can be seen from almost all primitive sites," reports a visitor to Indian Creek Recreation Area.

Playgrounds and recreational facilities: Structured play areas supplement natural spaces at developed campgrounds. "There was a playground area, a laundry facility, and shower room," notes a visitor about Indian Creek, where families can balance natural exploration with built amenities.

Halloween events for seasonal camping: Fall camping includes special programming at some locations. At South Campground — Chicot State Park, a visitor shares: "Very clean well maintained camp sites and cabins. Fishing, canoeing and hiking trails are available as well as splash pad for the kids."

Tips from RVers

Full hookup availability: Several campgrounds offer complete utility connections but with varying quality. "This campground has large paved pull through sites with full hookups (electricity, water, and sewage). There are picnic tables, a playground, a swimming pool, a clubhouse and laundry facilities," explains a visitor to Paragon Casino Resort.

Leveling requirements: Site preparation varies widely between locations. "Slightly unlevel, needed blocks on the right side. There was some trash left in the burn barrel, a few beer caps, and cig butts on the ground, but otherwise, basically, ok," notes a visitor at Indian Creek Recreation Area regarding site conditions that RV owners should prepare for.

Dog friendly campgrounds near Marksville exist at multiple facilities with varying rules. "We stayed in site 109, which is a full hook up site," shares a reviewer about Indian Creek, one of several pet-friendly campgrounds near Marksville where designated walking areas accommodate dogs.
