Sun Outdoors New Orleans North Shore

      Very nice camping resort

Beautifully kept resort with nice full hook up camspots, fences in dog park, pools for adults and kids, camp store, bar, grill, lake and hot tub. Also have nice facilities for showers and laundry that takes credit cards ( yay, no need for quarters). The only downside for me is they played music so loud at the outdoor bar that my ears hurt and could carry on a conversation. Our site next to dog park which was cute but a lot of excited dog barking from sun up to sun down.

      Baton Rouge KOA

Exactly what you need when visiting Baton Rouge!

We have stayed here for 4 consecutive years for the Louisiana Marathon weekend in January and couldn’t ask for a better home base for one of our favorite race weekends.

They offer regular pull thru spots with both 30 and 50 amp full hook ups and deluxe with a fire ring and patio space. The campground and bath house are kept clean and there is even a dog park for your furry camping friends.

Bay Hide Away RV Park And Campground

      Roomy sites and great service

We were arriving a day early and stuck in bad storms. Thank goodness they had space! The sites were very roomy and level. Utilities were near each other for easy set up. The park had a good sized dog park and lots of green space to play frisbee golf or walk.

      Punkin Park Campground

      Nasty place

There are derelict travel trailers laying around.  It smells of sewer.  When it rains it is very muddy,  with ankle deep water.  One of the managers drives around on a golf cart,  harassing the tenets.  Knocking on doors in the middle of the night.  There is a dirty old man,  who lives there, he preys on women. The managers outside dog has heartworm,  keep your pet safe.  You have to pay $10 per person a day to use the pool.  They charge $10 per person per day to fish in the lake,  no fish.

Bay Hide Away RV Park And Campground

Boutique B&B experience in a small RV park

With less than 50 spaces, this beautiful little park, just 4 miles from beautiful white sand beaches, is tucked away from the roads and surrounded by a wonderful mixed forest of hardwood and pines. Walking trails are meticulously maintained and provide a wide variety of walking choices throughout this park. There is a pond surrounded by the trails filled with lily pads that was starting to bloom as we left a week ago. There is even a“contemplation bench” on the edge of the pond perfect for sitting and just taking in the beauty of the surroundings.

The RV spaces are of different sizes to accommodate different sized rigs but all are well spaced, extremely level, and very well maintained. Each space has their own fire ring and picnic table. All of the full hookup utilities are in an excellent state of repair and maintenance. Roads are well maintained and ruts or pot holes are quickly filled with gravel and graded when they appear.

Aesthetics are important to this park. From the moment you drive in, you are greeted by the very attractive office facility which has a small store of RV essentials and a good selection of shirts and hats sporting the parks’ logo.

Amenities: Where to start- as I said with regards to the facilities, all of the amenities are meticulously maintained. The park has well priced onsite propane refills. You simply drop off your tank and it is returned to you at your site filled promptly. The laundry and bath facilities are spotless and a pleasure to use. The clubhouse with both indoor and outdoor facilities is amazing! The covered outdoor seating area has a great welcoming fireplace and wonderful ambiance that just feels like home to all who enter. The pool is very nice with wonderful deck seating, lots of shade umbrellas and very nicely landscaped. The enclosed dog park is a great place to give your pups their off-leash time as well. It’s well grassed and maintained and provides a safe and secure place to spend time with your dog(s) any time of day. The WiFi is adequate and is constantly being evaluated for improvements. Just this last year, fiber optic internet was brought into the park and the owners plan to upgrade the service even more this next year. I forgot to mention, you can have your mail forwarded here and they deliver it to your site daily! We just can’t say enough about our experience here.

Experience: Bay Hide Away has the look and feel of a boutique B&B only for RVs. Randy and Lea, the park owners and seasoned RVrs, go above and beyond to make a stay there a true experience. A wide range of activities for nearly all interests are provided from game nights, periodic“steak dinners”, pot lucks, craft sessions, weekly Happy Hours, holiday parties and dinners, and frequent tours of the local area for nearly every taste and interest.

Signature experiences such as“We meet to eat” at select local restaurants, weekly men’s breakfasts and women’s lunches provide a great way to get to know your neighbors. It’s a rare night that you don’t see several folks gathered around fire pits enjoying this place and sharing with others. Randy and Lea go above and beyond to help guests with any maintenance activities that may be required as well. Randy and Lea are seen daily in their golf cart in the late afternoon and evenings making the rounds to nearly every site sharing news and laughter with the guests that they all know by name. It just doesn’t get any more personal than this. Randy and Lea have made our stay here the standard to which our stay at other RV parks will be held.

Afterthought: COVID-19 was a sobering experience to all of us. Randy and Lea acted quickly and responsibly to shut down activities, manage access to the shower/laundry facilities and to set a standard for social distancing within the park. All the while still checking up on their guests on a daily basis. They quickly managed reservation changes to accommodate“sheltering in place” for those that needed that support. Thank you again Randy and Lea for this most wonderful experience.

      Jude Travel Park

      Decent

Has all amenities. Pool very cold. And hot tub is boiling. Once you check in it’s really hard to get ahold of anyone in the office. They were very kinda and accommodating for checking in. No change for laundry and clothes lines are not allowed. Cats everywhere and a ton of dog poop in the front area next to the pool. The owners dog was running around and scared the life out of ours.

Nothing really near by other than the bus stuff for down town.

The do have a shuttle but Uber is usually cheaper and fast and much more flexible.

      Fairview-Riverside State Park

      Quiet, clean peaceful

We’ve stayed here a number of times and have always enjoy our stay. It’s a nice quiet and clean park on the banks of the Tchefunte River just above Madisonville. 45 minutes from New Orleans. Check out some of the local restaurants in Madisonville.

    Guide to Madisonville

Camping opportunities near Madisonville, Louisiana span the diverse wetland ecosystems of St. Tammany Parish, where the elevation rarely exceeds 30 feet above sea level. The subtropical climate creates extended camping seasons with mild winters and humid summers, though seasonal flooding can affect campsite availability along the Tchefuncte River. Thunderstorms develop quickly during summer afternoons, requiring campers to secure equipment with proper stakes.

    What to do

Fishing from boardwalks: Bogue Chitto State Park offers extensive fishing opportunities from stable structures. "Very clean, well kept state park. Hiking trails, equestrian trails, tubing, camping... they've got it all," notes James L. The park also features "beautiful boardwalk on the Tchefuncte River, though, with great fishing," according to Brandon R. from Fairview-Riverside State Park.

Kayaking the waterways: Hidden Oaks Family Campground provides river access for paddlers. "There's a river that runs right through the campground. We were able to ride bikes and kayak," shares Cat R. The campground layout specifically accommodates water activities with convenient launch points.

Wildlife observation: Fontainebleau State Park hosts numerous native species in protected habitats. "We love this campground cause has lots of wildlife," explains Danny. Another camper noted, "Tons of wildlife to be seen. The raccoons are smart, and not scared of humans," according to Megin F., highlighting the opportunity for animal sightings.

    What campers like

Clean bathroom facilities: Tickfaw State Park maintains well-serviced restrooms year-round. "Bathrooms were clean every time I went, which is just as much about the guests as the staff," mentions Jason N. The park offers "Handicap bathrooms are decent but lights are motion censored so can turn off on you while you are in the shower," warns Maggie C. at Fairview-Riverside.

Swimming options: Sun Outdoors New Orleans North Shore provides multiple water recreation areas. "We spent last Sunday-Thursday at Reunion Lake RV Resort and we really enjoyed it! We missed the big crowds and pretty much had the place to ourselves," reports Jessica B. The resort features multiple swimming pools and a lazy river.

Seasonal activities: Fireside RV Resort organizes regular events for campers. "Great place to chill in water while camping during the summer!" says Michele P. The resort also features "the adult swim up bar and lazy River are spot on!" according to Cat R., making it popular during warmer months.

    What you should know

Site drainage issues: Several campgrounds experience standing water after rainfall. "I want to give them a 5, but they have a water problem. It doesn't take much rain to have standing water in many sites," warns Dean and Dodie B. about Fairview-Riverside State Park. They add, "Lots of the pads are old and narrow. You find yourself stepping out your coach into sloppy mud."

Reservation timing: Land-O-Pines Family Campground fills quickly during popular weekends. "We went for Halloween weekend and there were a lot of activities and trick or treating for the kids," explains David D. Halloween events at campgrounds near Madisonville often book months in advance.

Wildlife encounters: Alligators inhabit waterways throughout the region. "This place is crawling with gators in the lower portion on the lakes. Hey this is south Louisiana," Larry reports about Bogue Chitto State Park. At Tickfaw State Park, Cat R. mentions, "Had a couple of snakes show up creeping under our camper. After that I just couldn't enjoy it."

    Tips for camping with families

Holiday weekends: Adventures RV Resort hosts special themed events. "I have only been to Yogi Bear for Halloween but it's the best Halloween fun ever! Everyone decorates their campsites, there's hayrides and haunted houses," shares Amanda B. The park offers scheduled activities specifically designed for children.

Kid-friendly amenities: Dog friendly campgrounds near Madisonville typically include playground facilities. "The tent camping section has defined/private tent sites with picnic tables, and parking next to each site," explains Mary S. about Tickfaw State Park, adding that it has "fishing ponds, bike riding, canoeing, and primitive hiking."

Splash features: Several parks offer water recreation beyond natural waterways. "During the summer months, there is a splash pad that kids really enjoy," notes Paula W. about Tickfaw State Park, while Sun Outdoors New Orleans North Shore provides "multiple swimming pools with swim up bars, café, lazy river," according to Nancy W.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Fontainebleau State Park Campground requires careful planning for larger vehicles. "Be careful booking a pull thru site if your unit is over 25', they're horseshoe shaped. We could not fit on a pull thru site, and Betty at the entrance was awesome and found us the perfect back-in site," advises Martha S.

Level pads: Many pet friendly campgrounds near Madisonville have variable site quality. "Very nice state park with pretty river side views. The staff is very active in keeping the park clean and maintained," reports Jason N. about Fairview-Riverside, noting the "paved pads for RV. (larger RVs like ours use the entire width but smaller rvs get some patio.)"

Laundry facilities: Several parks offer complementary or low-cost laundry options. "Free laundry for campers" is available at Tickfaw State Park according to Therese A., while Fairview-Riverside provides "3-4 complimentary washers and dryers (not common)" as noted by Jason N., an uncommon amenity for state park campgrounds.
