Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Baskett, KY

John James Audubon State Park Campground welcomes pets with designated dog-friendly camping areas throughout its Kentucky grounds. The campground's sites accommodate tents, RVs, and cabins while maintaining a pet-friendly environment. Only one trail in the park allows dogs, which has proven frustrating for campers hoping to explore more of the natural area with their pets. The bathhouse facilities remain consistently clean, an important consideration for campers with animals. Diamond Lake Resort Campground and Scales Lake Park also permit pets across their camping areas, with full hookup sites available for RV campers traveling with animals.

Pet owners appreciate Miles Landing Campground's spacious sites that provide adequate room for pets to relax beside campers. The campground features well-maintained grounds where dogs can exercise on leash. Harmonie State Park Campground offers multiple pet-friendly accommodation types including tent sites, RV spots, cabins and glamping options. Campers should note that during busy holiday weekends, the concentration of pets can create noise issues with some dogs barking. Local wildlife encounters require keeping pets properly restrained at all campgrounds in the region. Most facilities require pets to remain leashed at all times when outside vehicles or camping units, and owners must clean up after their animals.

    Scales Lake Park

    Excellent Primitive Site

This was our first time camping and I must say I absolutely loved our site. We were on a primitive site number 109. Though the ground was a little rocky the lake views were spectacular. There was a porto potty in walking distance. When we first arrived it was pretty clean but after the weekend it was really bad and ran out of toilet paper. But the bathroom facilities by the slide were great you just had to drive to it from the primitive sites. Water slide was a blast and loved the petting zoo, also the volleyball court was a fun addition too. Though a little close to the road. All in all we will definitely be staying there again.

Warrick County Park Scales Lake Park

    Peaceful But Plain

A very peaceful place to camp with helpful rangers. There was a free petting zoo which was great but the animals seemed very discontented. The trails were interesting but vacant of trail markers and some plaques were vandalized from years before. Firewood is $8 a bundle and parking is $3 a day. Well priced and serene, but I would recommend this for people without children or someone looking for a camp away from any kind of excitement.

    Scales Lake Park

    Friendly family place

Nice beach, trails and playground. Friendly camper. Pet friendly. Would've given 5 stars but our site was tight. Squeezed between 2 sites, out the front door fight to neighbors sewer hose.

    Scales Lake Park

    A wonderful place for family

My wife and I camped here in February of 2020. This is a very well maintained park. We had just bought our 29' motorhome. It was too cold to do much, but the campground is nice. There is a petting zoo for the kids, a nice pool with a large water slide, 1 shower house that was very clean. Clean restrooms. A large lake for fishing and swimming. Walking trails, wood available for purchase. They even have cabins for rent, and lots of primitive sites. I recommend this park to all!

    Scales Lake Park

    Excellent Park

What a gem of a park! From the stunning trails to the pristine lake, this place is a nature lover's paradise. The shower facilities are top-notch, ensuring a comfortable stay for all campers. One thing to note is the strict parking rule at camp sites, but don't worry, there's overflow parking available for visitors. It's enforced for everyone's safety and convenience. The highlight for many is the petting zoo—an absolute must-visit for campers of all ages. It's a fantastic experience that adds an extra layer of fun to your stay. While there's no on-site camp store, fret not! You're just a short drive away from a local dollar store and the famous Tastee Freeze. Trust me, their ice cream is out of this world, and the food is equally delightful. I highly recommend treating yourself to a visit. Overall, this park offers everything you need for a memorable camping experience. Can't wait to visit again!

    Scales Lake Park

    Nice but Close to Neighbors

We camped here in the middle of October. The sites are very close together, so when the campsites are full you don't feel like you have much privacy or personal space. It was nice having full hookups for our camper, and there are plenty of hiking trails to get out and explore. Scales Lake is beautiful, my daughter enjoyed the playground and the petting zoo, and we'd probably like to come back, just maybe not on such a busy weekend.

Guide to Baskett

Southern Indiana and Kentucky offer diverse camping experiences within close proximity to Baskett, Kentucky. The area features rolling hills with elevations ranging from 400 to 600 feet above sea level. Camping options span from lakeside settings to wooded retreats, with late spring through early fall providing the most comfortable weather conditions for overnight stays.

What to Do

Fishing opportunities: Lake Lincoln at Lincoln State Park allows electric motors only and has boat rentals available. "Boating & fishing are popular, but electric motor only. There's boat rental," notes Cynthia K., who camped there in September 2024.

Explore historical sites: The region has significant historical significance, particularly related to Abraham Lincoln. "Lots of history in the park & in the area. Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is directly across the road from the state park," mentions a Lincoln State Park visitor.

Visit local attractions: The area offers convenient access to theme parks and local communities. "Close to Holiday World. Awesome trails. Stop in at Jenk's Pizza in Dale for dinner," advises Keith M. about camping options near Santa Claus, Indiana.

Hiking trail options: Harmonie State Park Campground offers multiple trails through wooded terrain. However, one camper cautions, "They just need better walking trails," suggesting some trails could use improvements.

What Campers Like

Peaceful settings: Smaller, less crowded campgrounds offer tranquility away from busy tourist areas. "Probably one of the smallest campsites I've been to and it's never been crowded when we went which is nice for our family," shares MISTY P. about John James Audubon State Park.

Clean facilities: Many campgrounds maintain high standards of cleanliness. At Miles Landing Campground, campers appreciate the "bathrooms were probably the cleanest, nicest shower houses I've seen at a campground," according to Jacinda L.

Family activities: Several parks feature amenities specifically designed for children. "There are 3 playgrounds throughout the campground. They have various events through the summer season with a big Halloween event in the fall," reports a visitor to Harmonie State Park.

Spacious sites: Many campers value having adequate room between sites. "The sites were very spacious and far enough apart that you had room to spread out," notes a recent visitor to Miles Landing Campground.

What You Should Know

Pet restrictions on trails: While many campgrounds welcome pets, trail access may be limited. At John James Audubon State Park, Drew C. cautions, "The only problem that I have with it is if you have a dog there's only one trail that is dog friendly."

Highway noise concerns: Some campgrounds have sites positioned near roadways. At Vanderburgh 4H Campground, visitors should know that "if you pick a campsite along the right side of the area, the other side of the fence is highway 41 so you will get traffic noise at all times."

Seasonal considerations: Many facilities operate with reduced services outside peak season. "The beach is closed after Labor Day. The camp store is in the pavilion by the beach & has limited hours after Labor Day," reports a Lincoln State Park camper.

Wildlife awareness: Local wildlife requires keeping pets properly secured. "Lots and lots of ticks, beware if you have pups," warns a visitor to Miles Landing about potential pest issues.

Tips for Camping with Families

Halloween events: Scales Lake Park and several area parks offer special Halloween camping weekends. "We stayed the weekend before Halloween... They had a trunk or treat in the pool parking lot and although there weren't a ton of vehicles, it was definitely enough for the kids to have fun trick or treating."

Petting zoo experiences: Some parks feature animal encounters for children. "There is a small petting zoo at the park and in the morning they let the animals out to feed on the grass. So expect to see them in the campground. Harmless and unique," shares Keith P. about Warrick County Park Scales Lake Park.

Swimming options: Several parks offer swimming facilities. "Olympic size pool open during summer-has water slide, diving boards, separate baby pool with shade awning, and concessions," notes a Harmonie State Park visitor describing summer amenities.

Playground availability: Check which campgrounds have playground equipment. "Two playgrounds, little petting zoo for kids. Beach area with small fee. Full hook up sites," reports Jessica D. about Scale Lake Park's family-friendly amenities.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Diamond Lake Resort Campground, RVers should consider site location carefully. "Sites are close, as in any resort style campground. Full hook ups, good cell service, WiFi is an additional cost," advises Dave B.

Size verification: Always check site dimensions before booking. "The sites seemed short, but people were able to park very large rigs in them. Check the site dimensions before booking or call the office to make sure you'll fit," recommends a Lincoln State Park visitor.

Hookup variations: Different campgrounds offer varying levels of hookups. "All sites are pull through, and within 2 feet of the drive. Good spacing between sites, I didn't feel like I was right up on my neighbors," notes Jon P. about Burdette Park.

Level sites: Most dog friendly campgrounds near Baskett feature relatively level camping pads. "The sites are level. The connections are easy to access," reports Eric R. about Vanderburgh 4H Campground, making it suitable for RVs requiring minimal leveling.
