Mammoth Cave Campground — Mammoth Cave National Park

    Nature Lovers Paradise

Site 46B is an exceptional site. Extra large with unobstructed views of the woods away from the roads So much to see and do beyond the cave! This campground is set in the woods with lots of hiking and biking trails within walking distance. Yes, the caves are amazing but don’t forget to explore the surface through hiking, horseback riding and kayaking. The campground has lots of tent campers to big rigs and everything in between. Big rig generators can put a major dent into the campground experience unfortunately but it’s still a beautiful family friendly experience. Bath houses were very clean. Sites are level. The dump station leaves a lot to be desired. It’s a two person operation. One person to use their foot to hold drain open and the other to deal with hose. Wish they offered electric at sites but still one of my favorite campgrounds. Very clean friendly and accessible to activities in the park.

    Louisville South KOA

Close to Louisville and Bourbon Tours

The Louisville South KOA is approximately 25 miles south of downtown Louisville in Shepardsville, KY. The location is easy to find off the exit of 65(which also has a Walmart and other stores nearby to resupply).

The campground has both pull through gravel sites, back-in, and tent sites. The sites were close to each other but provided plenty of space for the average sized rig. Many were longer than other KOAs, which enabled the tow vehicle and TT to be parked. Full hook-ups and 30/50 amp services at the sites, some leveling required. The campground store is well stocked and the employees are very friendly.

There is a pool(no hot tub-filled in with stones), play/game area, bounce pillow, and 2 miles of hiking trails around the campground. While the campground was nice, there is a lot of“stuff”(old broken trailers, mowers, etc) laying around the edges and in need of mowing between the sites. These items tend to take away from the overall welcoming feeling of the campground.

This being said, the wifi was strong and it is very convenient to sightseeing around Nashville, especially for the price of$54 per night.

    Buffalo Trace Park

Beautiful lake and well maintained park.

We stayed a few nights at this campground in October.  The campground is made for smaller sizes but we were able to negotiate the main ring road with our 37' travel trailer.  The spot that we had reserved was in an area were we could not get into but we went to the gatehouse and they gave us another spot that was on the main ring road that we were able to park in with no issues.  Cell service was great with Verizon and AT&T service.  The lake was beautiful and the park was well maintained.  Wished the beach, paddle boats, and petting zoo was open...  Still had a great time.  We will surely come back next year when everything is open!!  Had 30 and 50 amp service with water hookups and a dump station at the exit.  Make sure you have plenty of leveling blocks.  We used all of ours and was not level.

    Camp Carlson Army RV Park

    Small quiet dispersed

Very quiet. Two fenced dog runs that were slightly overgrown when we first arrived but were cut when the rain allowed. Paved roads throughout but very few paved sights. WIFI and cell service very limited would advise a antenna for long term. Office personnel were extremely helpful and understanding. I had truck problems and it extended our stay so I just had to move trailer to different site. Ft Knox is just a few miles away.

Overall this is a great FamCamp. Will definitely stay again.

    Cave Country RV Campground

    Cave Country

This RV Park is clean and well maintained. The dog park is beautiful with well trimmed grass and large. They have a nice swimming pool, picnic tables, and fire rings. Nice large gravel pull through site and level. The Mammoth Cave National Park is 10 miles with many other attractions nearby. We stayed for a week and loved it.

    Dog Creek Campground

    Dog creek campground visit

Pleasant campground. Trailers and RVs get water and up to 50 amp hookups. Our 4 night stay has warranted a portable waste tank purchased as they have 2/3 hookup. Very nice sites. 1/4 of them line the waterfront. Ours was a spacious pull through. No real camp store, but an honor system “shed” with firewood, produce, and canned goods. No hiking trails, but they do have a beach, playground, and boat ramp inside the park. Very quiet park. Volunteer “hosts were very nice. Warned us of the dry campus and leash laws. Convenient enough for a trip to Mammoth Cave without trailering primitive in the National park itself. Good stay!

    Lake Shelby Campground

    Small and quiet

Came here in our 40’ class A. Very weird at first as the sites are 20 feet long, but they allow front ends to stick out. Very nice park on a lake. All new electrical and water, all sites have 50 amp despite the website stating only 30 amps as recent update. Nice showers, regular campground showers. Good wifi, cable and cell service. Good for a night or two.

Deam Lake State Recreation Area Campground

    Nice Campground, Pretty Lake

This campground is very family-friendly and fun. There are horse trails, a beach, and great water for swimming/kayaking/canoeing. It is pet friendly as well. The bath house in our area was older but fairly clean. We felt like there was good spacing between the sites, and we weren’t too close to our neighbors. Beautiful in the Fall!

Guide to Lebanon Junction

Camping options near Lebanon Junction, Kentucky center around Green River Lake and Nolin River Lake, with elevations ranging from 580 to 650 feet above sea level. Both lakes offer water recreation opportunities with summer temperatures typically reaching the mid-80s. Most campgrounds in this region maintain seasonal operations from May through September, with limited winter camping available.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Moutardier Campground sits on Nolin Lake which campers note for its fishing potential. "Many people were fishing from their boats, kayaks, or from the shore. Also lots of fish jumping," according to one reviewer who visited the area.

Hiking trails: Wilson Creek Recreation Area offers access to hiking paths. "The old 4 wheeler trails now make good hiking trails and cool off at the gravel beach at the end of the road," notes a visitor. Most trails in this region are relatively flat with moderate difficulty levels.

What campers like

Lake views: Campers consistently mention the water views at Wax Campground on Nolin River Lake. "Sunset over the lake was spectacular and we loved watching all the birds here. Wildlife watching: The natural setting attracts various wildlife. At Wax Campground, one camper reports: "We even saw a giant Pileated Woodpecker! There were also herons, mourning doves, ravens, and more!"

Site layout: Many campgrounds in the region have thoughtfully designed sites. "The sites are strategically stacked in each loop. Close but angled so you see a lot of your neighbors but a lot of scenery too," explains a Moutardier Campground visitor describing how the Army Corps of Engineers has designed the sites.
