    Riverview Campground

    Beautiful Views

Riverview campground is a clean, quiet, family friendly campground. It overlooks the Ohio River and provides amazing views at sunset. The stargazing is also great. There are 30 amp and 50 amp sites with water, and a dump station is on site. Firewood is also provided. This was the perfect place to spend the weekend!

    Eddy Creek Marina Resort

    A Resort RV park

Eddy creek RV park is very well kept, clean, and somewhat secluded on Lake Barkley. Only open from April through Oct, the RV camp area is behind a code locked gate, which helps to keep the park private. There is a dump station, laundry facility, bath house , propane available and Echo Charlie's restaurant that serves typical American food that includes large servings!  I didn't see any tent sites, only RV sites, most with newer looking decks, level sites, electric and water hookup to each site.  The beach is private, the pool is private, everything is within walking distance, but most people were using golf carts, as it is a good distance from the RV area to the restaurant or the pool.  Bicycling would also be ideal, most areas are paved or at least compacted gravel.

Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

    Old and small

The sites are very small but spread out. Our 35 ft class a barely fit. They do show length limits for sites and they definitely max limit. There is electric (30 amp) and water at the site but it was 75 ft from my sites. Extensions are needed. The staff is friendly and the roads are paved but there are signs directing where to go. Great bathrooms and plentiful. Also coin operated laundry. Fairly close to the freeway.

    Hillman Ferry Campground

    Clean and Rustic

The best part of this campground is the beautiful rustic old timey feel. There are updated modern bathhouses dispersed throughout. The camp store is well stocked. There is a very nice boat ramp and several boat parking areas. “T” area is our favorite with full hookups and beautiful pine trees. A premier and amazing mountain bike trail system is accessible directly from campground!! The Canal Loop Trail and North South Trails are well known and revered by area mountain bikers and hikers. No WiFi or internet service. Cell signal in prior years have been spotty. Very family friendly and lots of kids riding bikes and playing everywhere!

    Canal Campground- Lake Barkley COE

    And then some.....

Canal Recreation Area is right by Grand Rivers, Ky and Patti's Settlement. That right there is enough said as far as outdoor activities go. Then you have Canal Rec Area that just adds too the vacation.

Book early because the best sites stay full, but really they are all pretty good sites. The different areas cover just about anything you are looking for in a site from big rig pull through sites, tiered tent sites, water and beach access sites and boat ramp sites.

There is a trail within the campground to walk, a day use area, newer showerhouse/laundry facilities and dump stations. The area is large enough to jog, bike and golf cart. If your not interested in the nearby entertainment there is enough to do right on site to keep you occupied for your entire vacation be it a day or a week+

    Indian Point RV Park

    Overnight only

The campground sits on three level overlooking Lake Barkly. There are only 5 pull-thru sites with full hookups on wide open ground, no shade. There are 16 water and electric sites. The 150+ sites are long term rental properties. There is a swimming pool, play ground, boat ramp, and game room. Dump site at entrance. More a retirement community than a RV camp.

    Eagles Nest RV Park

The nicest RV Park in Buchanan, TN

Eagle’s Nest RV Park is a hidden gem right next to Kentucky Lake and Paris Landing. It has all concrete pads with full service utility kiosks. Each campsite has plenty of room and comes with its own patio and cable TV connection. The park has a laundry room and shower / bathroom for park guests. Nearby convenience stores have firewood, propane, and anything you might need. The main attractions nearby are KY Lake, Land Between The Lakes, Paris Landing State Park and the Big Sandy National Wildlife Refuge.

    Redd Hollow

Tent and Small Camper Camping, Basic Sites

Well kept campground offering a more basic camping experience as compared to the larger campgrounds at LBL. Gravel pads with concrete picnic tables and fire rings. Be mindful when picking a site that some of the fire rings are damaged, some are the older short (12" tall tops) style and still others are brand new and have the adjustable cooking grate.

The actual gravel pads that we saw were for the most part in good shape. One or two sites suffered a bit from heavy wash running across them and rutting or washing gravel off the pads.

About half the sites are on the left hand side when you drive in and you can pick from sites tucked back in the woods a bit or sites nearer the water. Farther into the campground the road passes the vault toilet and boat ramp and goes uphill to higher up sites still. Sites in the woods with a longer walk to the lake but potentially better views and breezes.

We found that campers here did not limit themselves to staying on the defined tent pads. They would park on the pads and set up tents around the true camp site. Not a super big deal but it made getting down to the water a little awkward because you had to walk a little too close to someone else's tent for my liking.

The Forest Service could stand to go in and add some of the timber framing or bigger rip-rap bordering around the sites and maybe a splash of the smaller sized gravel to help level out the pads. You do need watch to make sure you get a level site.

If there are say 30 sites here, only about 15 were occupied over Labor Day weekend. Way less than what we expected for a holiday but it was exactly what we were hoping for, avoid the crowds at the larger, more amenity-filled campgrounds.

Last thing regarding the lake. The back end of Redd Hollow is shallow. Nice place to wade for kids. However, when they start pulling the lake down what were water access sites become gravel and mud bar access sites. In the dead middle of the summer the back end of the cove is probably full of water. Early spring and late summer early fall it is not. I suspect you can use the boat ramp year round though.

    Kenlake State Resort Park

    Waterfront

Big RVers probably should stay away when this campground is full. We watched a fifth wheel almost get stuck on their way out. Sites are shallow but wider. Some sides further from the water can house the big rigs but most of these sites are for smaller campers and tents. Contains a shower house, sewer, water, electric, and some great views.

This campground is all about location as it is right along the river and central location for hiking and adventuring. Most certainly will be back as we only stayed one night on our way back home.

Guide to Benton

Camping options near Benton, Kentucky concentrate in the Land Between the Lakes region with shoreline access to both Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. Many parks remain operational from spring through fall, typically closing from November through March due to seasonal conditions. Several campgrounds offer concrete pads, though most feature gravel sites requiring leveling equipment during wet weather.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley provide prime fishing spots accessible from several campgrounds. Cypress Lakes RV Park features "a little Lake in it to fish. Not far off the interstate makes it handy," according to Karen S.

Water recreation: Venture River RV Park sits adjacent to a water park, making it ideal for families seeking swimming options beyond natural waterways. Brandon T. notes, "We would stay here again and bring the cousins to play at the water park."

Wildlife viewing: The area supports diverse wildlife observation opportunities. At Birmingham Point Campground, visitors report notable wildlife sightings. MickandKarla W. mentioned, "We enjoyed the lake view from our site plus we saw deer and eagles in the CG during our overnight stay."

What campers like

Lakefront views: Many rv sites near Benton, Kentucky offer direct water views. Amanda from Birmingham Point Campground states, "I can't get over the views," highlighting the scenic appeal of waterfront camping locations in the region.

Friendly management: Campground hospitality stands out as a consistent positive across multiple locations. At Outback RV Resort in Eddyville, Hannah K. reports, "We can't say enough great things about Outback RV Resort in Eddyville, KY. From the extremely gracious and kind owners & staff, to the super friendly and inclusive campers."

Clean facilities: Visitors consistently mention well-maintained amenities as a highlight. Wanda E. at Outback RV Resort notes, "Showers and bathrooms immaculate. We will definitely stop again in the future."

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most campgrounds in the region close during winter months. Outback RV Resort operates "from April 1 to November 1," while Birmingham Point Campground runs from "Mar 15 - Nov 15."

Site spacing concerns: Campground density varies significantly throughout the Benton area. Cypress Lakes RV Park receives mixed reviews on this front, with Camp W. noting, "I was not sure if I was pulling into a campground or a mobile home park. Many seasonal sites and very busy with activities."

Limited pull-through availability: Pull-through sites remain scarce at most campgrounds near Benton. MickandKarla W. reported that at Birmingham Point, "Of the 76 sites total, the only pull through was site 25. We had to maneuver to get out of the site with our running over the railroad tie border."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds maintain dedicated play areas for children. At Eagles Nest RV Park, facilities include concrete pads and family-friendly amenities. Andy S. describes it as "a little slice of heaven located just 1500 feet from Kentucky Lake and 10 minutes from Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area."

Swimming options: Look for campgrounds with pools or beach access during summer visits. Delci L. mentions that at Cypress Lakes RV Park, "Kids enjoyed the playground and the reservoir is really beautiful. We wish the pool had been open…it's still in the process of a renovation. Shaved ice was a nice consolation prize for the kids."

Planned activities: Some campgrounds organize regular events for younger visitors. Bonnie F. notes that Cypress Lakes has "many activities for the kids. Will be going back, I really enjoyed it."

Tips from RVers

Site length limitations: Carefully check length restrictions when booking rv campsites near Benton. MickandKarla W. advises regarding Birmingham Point that "We wouldn't go in there with anything over 38'. The sites here vary a lot on how close they are to each other."

Flooding potential: Some sites experience drainage issues during heavy rainfall. At Duck Creek RV Park, Joan H. warns, "The last night of our stay there was a rainstorm and we woke up to ankle-deep water pooled around our trailer."

Navigation challenges: Interior roads at many campgrounds require careful maneuvering for larger rigs. At Outback RV Resort, MickandKarla W. observed, "The CG roads are on the narrow side but passable. The gravel site with a picnic table and fire pit was long enough for our 39' 5th wheel and our F-450."
