    Scales Lake Park

    Small tight spaces

Recently tried out Scales Lake...not my 1st choice. Sites were very small and close together. There were several different spots/clusters of camp sites. Some where full hook up, some primitive, some just electric, and all mixed together. The fire rings were very small with no grates to cook on. There was 1 bath house, very nice and clean and cooled, but not assemble to all camping sites. Also there were 2 playgrounds and a petting zoo. Lake has a small beach for swimming, slide with its own catch pool separate. Fishing allowed.

The streets in the town are extremely narrow, making it hard to get into the park.

Lake Lincoln Campground — Lincoln State Park

    Uniquely interesting

Lincoln State Park is right down the road from Santa Claus , Indiana and Holiday World. Needless to say it was a little busy, but not as bad as the Rudolph RV Park in town.

The RV/camping area was well laid out and the sites were nestled in quite close to one another. That being said it was a smaller campground and surrounded by trees and lake on two sides, roadway on the other.

Probably the main thing I didn't like about it. The day use area was a fence row away. Which while convienant to walk to, sorta cut down on the whole camping in the woods privacy thing.

Direct access to the trail system/lake boardwalk and the cabin area was co-located on the same trail. The trail was sort of well marked, though there were a few trails leading off with no markers.

The beach, boat rental and general use area was well maintained and had some cool old buildings in use. There is an amphitheater that has a good venue of events.

The general use pit toilet was fragrant, old and in need of a good cleaning. There were newer facilities but seeing as it was right in the middle of the area you would think a little sprucing up would be in order.

Very nice lake! CLEAR water, a lot of water activities going on.

Directly across from the park is another park area with historical stuff if you like that kind of stuff.

    Grayville KOA Grayville IL

    Excellent KOA in Grayville I-64

We stayed here on the way to and on the way home from The Kentucky Bourbon Trail. It is a fairly new KOA with so many enjoyable amenities, family fun, food, ice cream, mini golf, full hookups and shady spots if you ask for one. We want to go back and stay at a patio lot with a swing. Staff is friendly and helpful. Nearby services, fuel, farm store, etc.

    Top Flight State Park

This is a huge state park! There are lots and lots of campsites in this state park bordering the Wabash River. Sites are divided into smallish areas some for tents, some for RVs and some mixed. Lots of trees for shade. Bathhouses in each area with showers and toilets. Very clean & well maintained. Some areas with children playgrounds. The park has multiple picnic areas and shelters. There are a couple of ponds. There is a boat launch at the Wabash River. There is a good size swimming pool (though closed at my visit for the pandemic). Park sells firewood for individual fire pits at each site. Electric hookups at most tent sites. Water spigots near each bathhouse.

    Lynnville Park

    A STOP ALONG THE ROAD

While traveling from St. Louis to Kentucky we happened upon Lynnville RV Park just off I-64. We checked in through the honor system as the store/office closed at 5p; we filled out a registration form put $22 in it and put it in the mail slot-have to say I have not seen that before. The grounds were clean and maintained, it sits along a river so there were many there with boating and fishing gear-there were a lot of campers there but it was a very quite night. It's a nice little campground, the sites had fire rings, grills and picnic tables; some sites are actually on the river. We will probably stop there again on the next trip to Missouri.

    Scales Lake Park

    Primitive would be my choice

Scales Lake Park is right outside Boonville, In on South Parklane Dr.

I drove through the RV park, it was okay. The main area had little shade, definitely go for the outer sites if you want some grass and shade. The showerhouse was centrally located next to the playground and there was a laundromat of sorts included.

Water sports and a bike/hike trail, so plenty to keep you occupued. The paved road that runs all the way through to the closed gate, is good for biking or jogging if you don't want to run the trail.

My favorite part was one; the handicap primitive site had a handicap accessible fishing deck and two; near that was McCool Point. A secluded primitive site with a stairway down to your own little boat tieoff. Sorta cool :)

    Burdette Park

    Little bit of everything

Burdette Park is right outside Evansville, In. And BUSY.

BMX track, HUGE swimming pool/water park with slides and several other outdoor activities.

I didn't love the RV park , the sites are very close together, very little privacy.

Some of the primitive sites have a lot of privacy, some are a little close, but if your with a group it would work well.

There are Chalets to rent, Shelters and for a big crowd the Discovery Lodge.

The Burdette walking trail was about 3miles long, not a lot of shade but very well laid out.

I did not go to the pool, but saw it on the way up the hill to the camping area. It is HUGE and looks like a lot of fun.

Lastly there was an actual BMX track. Practice Wednesdays, Races Friday per schedule, big thing since the 80's.

    Vanderburgh 4H Campground

    Fantastic

Was looking for a quiet area, and not some drive-through campsite, this fit the bill. Great groundskeepers, good trail for dogs, nice view of the pond from the main RV area, has decent showers and laundry room, and plenty of entertainment close by. If you don’t need full hookups, they have 30a’s in back and by an old ww2 bunker.

    Away from it all

This campground only has a few full hookup sites maybe three, otherwise the sites have electric and there is a few water hookups along each of the loops to fill your potable tank with. This campground is easily three miles back from the front gate. It's quite, and peaceful. There are bath houses in between loops so there's a few and always one near by. My fiance and I have stayed here for a little over a month, sadly I was not able to try their pool out due to it already being closed for the season when we arrived. So far all the staff and maontance people have been super nice. One gentleman even gave me a ride to the front gate to pay for additional camping nights. Their is a nature center for the kids with a bunch of humming bird feeders. i myself travel with my plants and have a feeder as well. No where else have I seen so many hummingbirds there's a few at my feeder every day and I've captured really amazing pictures. I'd come back here in a heart beat.

Best sites are for seasonal campers

The best sites are reserved for seasonal campers by the month. Not many level sites as most are on a hill. Lake is nice but no swimming is allowed. Bathrooms are very small and consist of only 2 showers and useable but not that great. This was a private campground that the county took over. They need to out some money into this park and it would be a great place. If they would level the sites and put in a new and good size bath house, it would receive better reviews. But for now, it's mainly used by locals to camp for the season.

    Scales Lake Park

    Nice but Close to Neighbors

We camped here in the middle of October. The sites are very close together, so when the campsites are full you don't feel like you have much privacy or personal space. It was nice having full hookups for our camper, and there are plenty of hiking trails to get out and explore. Scales Lake is beautiful, my daughter enjoyed the playground and the petting zoo, and we'd probably like to come back, just maybe not on such a busy weekend.

Great Family camping, swimming pool, Biking , Fishing, Hiking

This campground is very well kept. There are paved roads the kids can bike on as well as mountain bike trails. Very nice swimming pool. Clean showers with hot water. Campsites are spacious. May places for large groups to camp when they put multiple sites together. Close the town of New Harmony a great place to catch a meal or just stroll through town. This campground is very clean and is kept that way by Host campers. No full hookups but there is a dump station.

    Miles Landing Campground

    Newer campground

The owner just reopened this campground 2 years ago, put a lot of work into it. Overall great place, roughly 3 miles off the interstate. GPS states there is a bridge to the campground, but not true. Can drive directly to it. Lovely area with fishing not far from the campsite. Full hookups on every site, have in trees half in direct sun. Lots of full time residents, but very clean and very friendly. Will fit any size rig, or tents. Great wifi and cell signal. We didn’t put up fish network. Simple campground with wood for sale only. Lots and lots of ticks, beware if you have pups.

    Burrell Park & Campground

    Great for Adults

We were there on Labor Day weekend. It was very quiet. I loved that our site was full hookup, very spacious, and they provide free firewood. The campground round was paved so nice for walking, hilly but nice. I didn’t have kids but I didn’t see activities available. They come around and collect your money and give you the Internet password, so if you get there in the evening you may not get it until later the next day. You have to leave the campground and go a couple of miles down the road for any needed item. Bathhouse was older but was clean. The road going into the campground was country rounds and not the best signage.

Scales Lake is a wonderful campground. It has primitive, cabIns, and RV camping. The camp has so much to do for kids and adults. Hiking, mountain bike trails along wIth pump track for kIds, a small petting zoo, and a beautiful lake front for swimming with water slide and diving boards. There is a boat ramp for fishing boats and kayaks. My husband and I live about ten miles away and we love staying at the campground. we always feel we are off on an adventure when we stay. Lake Lincoln Campground — Lincoln State Park

    Very nice State Park

Very nice state park campground with electric, (50 on some, 30 on some), and water hookups. Two clean shower houses. Two dump stations. Lake for swimming, fishing, canoe, paddle boat and Jon boat rentals. Hiking trails and fire tower. Typical camp store on site. Gas station with propane about a mile from the camp ground. Has primitive sites and cabin rentals also. The park has a large outdoor covered amphitheater with several concerts throughout the season. Most sites are pretty level. There are a few that are not. The majority of the sites have at least partial shade. Weekends are usually booked up in advance. Through the week is no problem getting your choice of sites. Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is adjacent to the State park. It has a living farm. Both are free. Admission to the state park is $7.00 per vehicle or a Indiana State Park annual pass for $50.00 gets you into any Indiana state park anytime for the year. You can book through reserveamerica.com or calling the park directly.

Ranger Review: Primus at Harmonie State Park

I recently visited Harmonie State Park near New Harmony, In. https://indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=IN&parkId=570048 Just a heads up when camping in Indiana there is a fee to visit the State Parks. I always carry cash for that , laundry and in some states bathroom use. So, the number one thing that stuck out to me about this campground was the shade. For the most part it’s level (floodplain...I saw no standing water) And all the sites are nicely shaded (we are talking full growth) and good size. The sites are electric only, no water, no sewer. There are centrally located water hydrants and a dump station on the way out of the campground. The campground wasn’t very full when we visited, but there is a plethora of activities to enjoy. An Olympic size pool which back in the day my kids woulda loved. Hiking paths (very wide), one right by the campground and a connector trail to the mountain bike trail area. There’s also a bike section on the paved roads. You could spend a comfortable week here and not be bored.

Product Review: As a Dyrt Ranger I get to occasionally try out outdoor products while camping and this trip I brought along some Primus “kitchen gear” https://primus.us/ . Primus is known for its camping stoves , the kitchen accessories are pretty sweet too. I have the Trailsporks , a long spoon , a spatula for grilling , campfire plates and a campfire knife. These are very sturdy made accessories and pack in my kit without taking up a lot of space. There are a lot of options on the site to fit your packing needs too, from family fireside to fastpacking . I’m building my fireside kitchen kit .
