    Yellowstone Lakeside RV Park

Friendly owner and nice place to stop a short distance from Idaho Falls

We are full-timers in a 36 ft Class A with a Cherokee Trailhawk tow and having been fairly remote for a while, needed to hit a few big box stores to stock up in things. The CG is undergoing and expansion and is the area we stayed in, which got rather sloppy when it rained. We were in site W-5 for 2 days in late July. This area is all gravel and only a few of the sites were complete enough to be open. The sites all looked very level, but are open. All of the pull-through sites, existing and expansion, are oriented such that every other pair pull through in opposite directions and share utilities, which results in slide-outs only being a few feet apart in most cases. The new back-in sites along the periphery are roomier in between. There is a little road noise from US-20, but not excessive. AT&T coverage good, with 4 Bars of LTE with service up to 14.5 MB/s. They have a tower right across the highway. The CG WiFi was decent with speeds up to 1.8 MB/s, but generally in the 100s of MB/s. We were able to get DISH coverage on all three western satellites at our site. There were 13 OTA channels to be had with our fixed omni antenna.

    Jefferson County Lake

Most beautiful RV campground near Rexburg

We just discovered this campground because we drove by it. I have no idea why it never comes up when you do a Google search for campgrounds near Rexburg. We are so glad we found it. It's by far the most beautiful RV campground in the whole area. Each spot has a concrete pad, a fire ring and a picnic table. It has water and electric but no sewer or dump station. However, Lakeside RV a block away has a dump station for $5 and there is a Sinclair nearby that also has a dump station for $5 and they refill propane tanks and I hear they have the best prices around. It's 10 minutes south of Rexburg. You can stay as long as you want but you can only book for 6 nights in a row in one spot. Then you can book another 6 nights at a different spot. We stayed for 11 nights. They have pit toilets that are surprisingly clean and don't smell, but no shower or laundry. We stayed in sites 8 and 12 and both were wonderful with shade trees and a beautiful view. I loved waking up in the morning to see a beautiful lake out my bedroom window. The lake is actually an aquafer (underground spring) so it's super clear and clean unlike most lakes. One side of the lake has a beach and my kids and I swam in the lake and they especially loved the big slide in the middle of the lake. We floated with tubes and noodles. They have kayaks and paddleboats to rent for $15 an hour. There is a walking path around the campground and a lovely little river that travels alongside the walking path. Each year in September they have Buddies Not Bullies event on the beach. We happened to be her for the event. They had lots of old cars and cool cars and you can vote on your favorites. My boys loved the burnout contest. They had music, a free bounce house for kids, food trucks, free HotWheels for kids, and the radio station was here.  My kids thought it was fun. The campground closes for the winter in October but they leave the walking trail open. $30 a night was cheaper than any other place around and this campground is far more beautiful than any other one in the area. Definitely will be back.

    Wakeside Lake RV Park

    Wonderful One night stay

It was a great location. Our site was large and shaded by beautiful mature trees. Very helpful and friendly staff/owners. We had a minor issue when we got there after hours. We tested the number provided and they were super quick to get back to us and help us problem solve. The only thing I didn’t love was that we had to share an electrical juncture box with our neighbors. So there was one 50 amp and one 30 amp on the box. They had already plugged into the 30 which we needed also. Neither of us had a dog bone attachment. I think maybe that just needs to be specified when booking and offering full hookups. We got the situation sorted because of kind neighbors and helpful staff. I would definitely stay again though. My kids loved playing in the lake.

    Grand View Campground (Targhee NF)

    Hike to waterfalls

The campground is within walking distance of Lower Mesa Falls and an easy but longer hike to Upper Mesa Falls. All the usual amenities in this campground- picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets(really clean!), plus steel prep stand tables. No cell service for me here, but I think some other campers had service with a different carrier. Definitely do the hike to the falls to save yourself a parking fee($5), or be sure to take your Interagency National Parks card and the parking fee will be waived. Not far away is the Bear Gulch hike, which is very pretty, but you will likely have to share the trail with mountain bikers and dirt bikers, so be prepared.

Targhee National Forest Warm River Campground

    Great location

I stumbled across this campground while driving Mesa Falls scenic by-way. This campground has 27 sites, both tent, RV and a group site right along the Warm River. It also has a day use area. This campground had new vaulted toilets but no showers. Within the campground was the trailhead for The railroad grade trail (great for mountain biking) which I was told use to take train passenger to Yellowstone’s old faithful. Tubing was very popular and the campers next to us insisted that we borrow their tubes so we could try it out for ourselves, very refreshing during our hot August stay.

I snagged the last tent site #21 across the bridge in the northern half of the campground. This large secluded tent site up on the hill had a very small tent pad, fire pit and picnic table and enough room to put up my hammock. This site is next to two double sites. Unfortunately during the 5 nights I stayed some of the RVers close to us ran their generators beyond the 10pm curfew and one RVer felt the need to pull out his noisy leaf blower and blow leafs and dirt everywhere.

There is tons of things to see and do in the area, Mesa Falls, Island Park… but the hidden gem is the close proximity (less than 25 miles) to Yellowstone National Park - Bechler Ranger Station. Bechler Ranger Station is in the far SW corner of Yellowstone National Park. This area has more streams, creeks, lakes and waterfalls than any other area in Yellowstone. There is a historic Soldier Station there that is about 100 years old and there are lots of hiking trails to beautiful waterfalls. You can see cave falls right from the parking lots. I would definitely return to this campground next time I am in the area.

    Wakeside Lake RV Park

Good shaded pull throughs, hospitable staff

Stayed one night here and checkin was a breeze, all sites are pull through and they have laundry (honor system for payment). Utilities worked great and we were able to requested late check out. The shaded areas were huge being that it was 95F out, good to escape the blazing heat!

    City of Blackfoot RV Park

Simple spot to stay in Blackfoot

This is for RV parking with electrical hookups for 20 bucks at the airport. 18 hookups and awesome dog park. Also a bike ride away from a very nice park on the lake with lots of play space for kids during the day. No toilets or showers but a simple stay and there is Wal-Mart everything else you need right in town. Blackfoot Wal-Mart does not allow overnight parking. There is water hookup during season. Also free dump station at fire station.

    Stoddard Creek Campground

    Beautiful park in the wood

We stayed at this campground for one night on July 22, 2018.

There are two levels, the lower one is for non-reserved and sits along the sometimes dusty road, and the upper is reserved and very green. The upper is much nicer with some of the cleanest best smelling pit toilets we've ever seen. We considered additional nights as it was so nice. Our neighbors were planning on one night as well but had remained for 6 nights.

We had a very nice pull through site #6, with a level graveled area for the large picnic table and separate stove stand.  The fire pit was also located in this area but safely away from the table. The green meadows, surrounding trees, and excellent maintenance made this a beautiful campground.

As a note both AAA and Google routed us to exit 180 and we drove for 4 miles on sometimes paved, sometimes gravel road to arrive. When we got within a quarter mile of the campground, we came to exit 184 which was right at the campground (no gravel travel required)

Guide to Hamer

RV parks near Hamer, Idaho sit at 4,800 feet elevation in the high desert plateau of eastern Idaho, experiencing hot summer days that typically cool significantly at night. Most campgrounds in this region offer convenient access to both Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, with sites generally open from spring through fall, though some provide year-round camping options for travelers.

What to do

Sand dune recreation: The St. Anthony Sand Dunes offer thrilling OHV adventures near Egin Lakes. "It is a great place to ride sand dunes. Individual campsites with electrical hookups. Very accommodating," shares one visitor. The dunes reach up to 400 feet high with dedicated parking for campers.

Fishing opportunities: Several lakes provide good fishing spots within a short drive. "Bring your fishing and swimming gear," recommends a camper at Egin Lakes. The shallow waters make for family-friendly cooling off during hot summer days.

Golfing access: For travelers wanting to mix outdoor recreation with golf, Yellowstone Golf Resort at Aspen Acres RV Park offers an 18-hole par 3 course. "Nestled in an Aspen grove with a 18 hole par 3 course surrounded by rolling hills of farmer's fields," notes one reviewer, making it a peaceful setting for both camping and golfing.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Many campers appreciate the generous site sizes at RV parks in the region. At Idaho Falls Luxury RV Park, "The concrete pads were level, long, and wide, and the sites were very roomy, with great tables and green grass," according to one reviewer. This provides ample space between units.

Clean facilities: Consistently clean bathrooms and showers rank high with visitors. "Cleanest and nicest bathrooms and laundry room ever," reports a guest at Yellowstone Lakeside RV Park. Many parks feature individual bathroom facilities that resemble home bathrooms rather than typical campground facilities.

Helpful staff: Friendly service makes a difference for travelers. One visitor to Wind Willows RV Park noted, "The management was so friendly and gave us really good tips on where to go and what to do around there." Many campground hosts go beyond basic service to enhance the camping experience.

What you should know

Seasonal variations: While some RV parks remain open year-round, others have limited seasons. Wakeside Lake RV Park operates from April 1 to October 31, and Yellowstone Golf Resort's season runs "May 15 to October 15," according to their listing information.

Road noise: Highway proximity can affect some locations. A camper at Wakeside Lake RV Park observed that while "It has a lake view that is beautiful," the location's proximity to major highways means some road noise should be expected.

Shared utilities: At several parks, neighboring RVs share utility connections. "The only thing I didn't love was that we had to share an electrical juncture box with our neighbors. So there was one 50 amp and one 30 amp on the box," explained one Wakeside Lake RV Park visitor, suggesting travelers bring adapter options.

Tips for camping with families

Water recreation options: Several campgrounds offer water access for families. At Wakeside Lake RV Park, a parent shared, "My kids loved playing in the lake," making it a good option for families wanting water activities.

Limited playground access: While some online listings mention playgrounds, availability varies. A visitor to Wakeside Lake RV Park noted, "My only complaint was that their website says there's a playground and I could not find one. My kiddo was entertained enough by the water though so it worked out."

Entertainment alternatives: Wind Willows RV Park provides access to family attractions. "Right across the freeway from Bear World (super fun for kids and adults), 20 minutes from Heise Hot Springs, and Rexburg Rapids water park," writes one visitor, offering options for days when camping alone isn't enough.

Tips from RVers

WiFi connectivity: Internet quality differs between parks. At Snake River RV Park, a reviewer reported, "Wifi terrible. General store was poorly stocked," suggesting travelers bring alternative connectivity options.

Level sites: Most RV parks in the Hamer area feature level sites with good surface conditions. "The sites are level gravel and full hookups, 30 Amp," notes a visitor to Wakeside Lake RV Park, though surface materials range from gravel to concrete depending on the facility.

Rig size considerations: Most parks accommodate larger RVs, but specifications vary. At Snake River RV Park & Campground, "The spaces are very big and flat," according to one reviewer, making it suitable for larger motorhomes and fifth wheels.
