Best RV Parks & Resorts near Flowery Branch, GA

Lake Lanier serves as the focal point for multiple RV parks in the greater Flowery Branch region, with lakefront sites available at several Corps of Engineers campgrounds including Bald Ridge Creek and River Forks Park. Most RV areas feature water and electric hookups with some offering full-service sites including sewer connections, particularly at private parks like Twin Lakes RV Park in Cumming and Wesley Oaks RV Park. "If you have a boat you won't find a better campground for accessing Lake Lanier," notes a frequent camper about River Forks, which provides spacious pull-through rv pads accommodating larger vehicles. Margaritaville RV Resort in Buford offers premium lakefront sites with concrete pads, while many Corps-managed campgrounds provide more rustic settings with gravel sites featuring picnic tables and fire rings.

Advance reservations are essential during summer months and fall weekends when lakefront sites fill quickly. Several campgrounds feature challenging access roads and turning radiuses that can be problematic for larger rigs. One RV owner reported, "It was so tight that the 5th wheel was only 1 inch from hitting the cab and the axels on the RV were in a bind." Most campgrounds in the area provide sanitary dump stations though few sites offer full hookup rv connections directly at the campsite. Big rig spots are most abundant at Margaritaville and Twin Lakes RV Park, while older Corps facilities like Duckett Mill and Shoal Creek may present navigation challenges with steeper grades and tighter turns. Year-round camping is available at several locations, though amenities and water access points may be limited during winter months.

    Shoal Creek Campground

Beautiful lake front AND lake view camping spots; friendly staff

This was our first RV camping experience -- testing out a new pop-up camper during a two (2) night stay. Reservations were made through Campspot -- about $120 with fees. Communication with the main number for the campground went through the Margaritaville Campground nearby. Separate direct lines to the camp office and security were provided after arrival. Overall communication was good with both, and the staff were always polite.

We skipped our first night reservation due to high winds. We had concerns about damaging the pop-up roof during first-time setup. We decided, instead, to visit the campsite we'd reserved and pick up our paperwork. Site 56 was our first choice, and we were NOT happy with it. I selected the wrong size on the Campspot website -- a 20' campsite. It was not big enough to park both the camper AND the tow vehicle, AND the camper would've been facing away from the lake anyway with water and electrical hookups.

The next morning, we called to arrange for a different site. The camp office was very accommodating and blocked off four (4) available sites to choose from. We moved to site 55, which was a large circular pull through. Probably too big for our pop-up camper, but also probably too close to trees for a larger trailer or even a 5th wheel. The campsite was large, with the picnic table, fire ring and sand pit away from the camper. There was lots of room to set up and enjoy the beautiful lake views.

Electric and water hookups worked just fine. The camp office lent a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter free of charge. We had no issues with either service. The showers and bathrooms were about 2-3 sites down and up the road from 55, and they were reasonably clean for what they were.

I WAS disappointed that the main gate was broken, and the key code locks on the showers and bathrooms were duct taped shut. However, I did not feel that the campground was all that insecure, and there did not appear to be a lot of traffic coming through. Security DID come through overnight on Sunday morning -- probably due to some noise at 1-2 of the campsites across the cove from ours. Things quieted down after. The camp host was cleaning bathrooms on Sunday morning, and he was very polite when we talked. I saw him regularly coming through to check on campsites and clean up.

Overall, we liked this campground and will be going back. I will likely request to scout out some different sites in person before selecting one, as I don't want to be in a position to have to give up my spot when it's very busy.

    • private with plenty of tree cover
    • quiet
    • large site area
    • friendly gate person
    • good cell reception with t-mobile
    • clean restrooms
    • good water pressure

    Cons:

    • 30 amp issues on pole with EMS readings. 50 amp was fine
    • steep hill to get to the lake

Hard Labor Creek State Park Campground

    One of the BEST!

We were back at HLC this past weekend and, as always, top-notch park! We have tent camped for several years but recently upgraded to a new (to us) pop up and we had a blast!

We camped at site 26 (one of the newer sites) and it had full hookup (our PUP does not have a bathroom but does have a galley). The site has electric (50 amp and 30 amp service) as well as free cable TV!!

The sites at HLC are well spaced and the bath houses are spotless!!

The park staff is amazing and the camp hosts are always cleaning up and are available if you need anything!

HLC is our go-to spot for a weekend getaway because of the above-mentioned reasons and it is close to home!!

    Winding Waters RV Resort

    More vacation than camping

Winding Waters is a new, huge, and beautiful RV resort. This is not a campground, but a resort-style RV park with no shortage of amenities and activities. Nightly rate is very reasonable for all the bells and whistles you get. If you are just looking for a cheap, relaxing overnight with no frills, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a fun family vacation spot to bring the kids, look no further.

Just outside Atlanta, the location is prime and beautiful, along the Etowah river. You can fish, kayak, or just relax. There is no shortage of activities for children. The resort's pool is a huge beach-style pool with a hot tub and even a huge waterslide. There is a large playground and huge dog run. They have a large clubhouse and ball courts.

We booked one of their cheaper sites, a classic pull-thru site. To say the least, it was the TIGHTEST pull thru site we have ever booked. We have never had to adjust and shimmy around in a pull thru site before, the whole point is to pull in once and bam you're set up. We could barely even squeeze our tow vehicle (10ft bed dually) into the designated parking spot without sticking out. Even the back in sites would have been a little more roomy. But hey, for all the amenities (that we didn't even use since we were just stopping over for a night) the price isn't awful. For a bit more, you can get your own private dog run or patio furniture.

We were pretty overwhelmed with the sheer amount of RVs in this place. Mostly all big rigs too. It was packed and they have so many sites. So many kids running around, and our neighbor's dog was off leash and ran over to my dog when I tried to take him potty. There are no walking paths in the resort, so people (and kids) are forced to run around on the streets, which are pretty narrow, winding, and uncomfortable to drive a big rig on. Just in general A LOT going on, very busy place. Great place if you like resort style parks, but not fun for an overnight. Since it's new there's no shade at all, so I can't imagine how hot it is in the summer and with all the big rigs blasting their a/c, they may run into electrical issues. But they planted some trees which should alleviate that a bit.

The rules list is pretty strict and extensive, with a bunch of extra fees for weird things like early check-in and personal golf carts. Make sure you read through everything thoroughly before you book. Some rules might be deal breakers for some people. Staff was very kind to us and we wish them the best with their new RV resort!

    Twin Lakes RV Park

A place to park with no bath, no amenities and mostly long term residents

The 5 star reviews are perplexing. We're not new to RVing and have stayed in plenty of lovely mom& pop parks. This is a family owned campground, but it is basically a parking lot with hookups for people who live there long term. Our site was on the side of a road about 50 yards away from the Dump Station. It was referred to as a premium, pull through rather than what it is... a pull to the side of the road. There was no grass or picnic table. I'll post pictures that show the condition of our site and how close the spots are to one another. The pictures online and YouTube videos of this park are very deceiving. The grassy areas beside and between the lakes can only be accessed by walking though other camper's sites.

** Use caution navigating the park because the roads at the back have no way to turn around if you get back there.

    Tallulah Gorge State Park Campground

    Incredible place to hike

Took my boys after studying the 7 Natural wonders of GA and this gorge is one of them. Did not disappoint. The hike to the bottom is not for the faint of heart. And the steps back up will challenge the most fit among us. But the views and experience is well worth the pain. Campground while being big rig friendly is a little tight ( we have a 42ft motorhome). If your large try to book sites 34 or 35 pull through. No sewers, but easy to use dump station next to the exit. Make sure you add this stop to your Must see list

Watson Mill Bridge State Park Campground

    Great little state park

Real friendly staff. Nicely laid out, but I guess could be challenging for really big rigs. W & E with dump station and pretty good facilities

Cell coverage a little challenging but managed to get enough download for Visible to stream Netflix. Too many trees to break out Starlink

    Trails are a fun walk.

Winter temperatures rarely drop below freezing, making seasonal camping viable with appropriate preparation, while proximity to both Atlanta (45 minutes south) and the North Georgia mountains creates diverse recreation opportunities.

What to Do

Fishing access: Twin Lakes RV Park in Cumming offers a one-mile trail that goes behind their lake. "They have several swings overlooking the lake for a very relaxing view. You're allowed to fish in the lake, but no swimming or kayaking," notes Alanna W., who stayed at Twin Lakes RV Park.

Swimming opportunities: Diamond Lure Campground offers water recreation on their private lake with dedicated swimming areas. "There's a little beach to swim in or go fishing," writes Heather L. about Diamond Lure Campground, adding that "there are gorgeous, peaceful walking trails that are decorated really well!"

What Campers Like

Concrete pads: For those looking for level, stable camping surfaces, Margaritaville RV Resort offers premium sites. "We had a pave site full hookup pull thru with lake view. Reservation policies: Many rv parks near Flowery Branch have specific booking requirements. Wesley Oaks RV Park charges "925 per month regardless of class size. 400 dollar security deposit plus a 50 dollar pet rent every month," reports Steffi L. about Wesley Oaks RV Park.

Site orientation challenges: Be prepared for sites with utilities positioned awkwardly at some campgrounds. At Sweetwater Creek RV Reserve, one camper noted, "Forget the fact that water and sewer were on wrong side. Forget that water and sewer were gross and almost touching each other."

Site variations: Within the same campground, site quality can differ significantly. At Twin Lakes RV Park, Clare P. warns that "The 5 star reviews are perplexing... Our site was on the side of a road about 50 yards away from the Dump Station. It was referred to as a premium, pull through rather than what it is... a pull to the side of the road."

Tips for Camping with Families

Beach activities: Look for campgrounds with dedicated swimming areas for children. Diamond Lure Campground offers beach access that families appreciate, with one reviewer noting, "This is such a beautiful place. Upon driving up, you see the office and the big lake behind it and it's breathtaking. There's a little beach to swim in or go fishing."

Off-site activities: Country Boys RV Park provides a convenient base for shopping excursions. "Good option for anyone making a day of the Outlets," notes JuJu D. about this KOA property.

Limited recreation: Some campgrounds near Flowery Branch offer minimal on-site activities for children. Pine Lake camper Carey R. cautions, "If you're traveling with kids though-there's not much to do other than bike through campground or fish in the pond. But locally there are parks & playgrounds."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: When booking at Twin Lakes RV Park, request sites away from common facilities. One reviewer warns, "The only downfall to our site(#H) was we were right next to the dump site. Luckily we only smelt it once, so it was too bad."

Navigation concerns: Some rv campgrounds in Flowery Branch present navigation challenges. "Use caution navigating the park because the roads at the back have no way to turn around if you get back there," warns a Twin Lakes RV Park reviewer.

Big rig accommodations: Larger RVs find easy access at certain campgrounds near Flowery Branch. Margaritaville offers "a pave site full hookup pull thru with lake view. Very easy to get in and out," according to one reviewer, who also mentions the convenience of the drink cart that comes by each evening.
