Florida's Winter Garden area offers a variety of pet-accommodating campgrounds within a short drive of urban amenities. Located in Central Florida's lake region at approximately 121 feet above sea level, the area experiences mild winters with average temperatures between 50-70°F and humid summers reaching into the 90s. Camping options range from urban parks with full hookups to more secluded state parks with waterfront sites that provide opportunities for wildlife viewing.
What to do
Kayaking at Lake Louisa State Park: This park provides excellent kayaking opportunities on multiple lakes, including Lake Louisa, Hammond Lake, and Dixie Lake. "We were easily able to roll our Kayaks to Dixie lake from our campsite. We stayed at a site in Dixie loop sites 1-30. Hammond lake was across the road from our campground," notes a camper at Lake Louisa State Park Campground.
West Orange Trail biking: This 22-mile paved path is ideal for cycling near Winter Garden. "Our favorite activity is biking to the trail head for the West Orange rails to trail which is located downtown @ 3 miles from campground. This rail to trail is 22 miles long and can be extended another 9 miles if you link to South Lake Trail," reports a visitor at Winter Garden RV Resort.
Horse shows at Clarcona Horse Park: Watch equestrian events just minutes from Winter Garden. "There are horse events, fun to watch, food truck available for breakfast and lunch day of event," shares a visitor at Clarcona Horse Park, which sits adjacent to the West Orange bike trail and offers camping for $17 for seniors over 55.
Swimming at Wekiwa Springs: Cool off in the crystal-clear spring water year-round. "The park offers hiking, biking, day swimming, a food grill, a canoe/kayak launch and rental, plus tons of wildlife! The campground was quiet and the restrooms fairly clean," says a visitor at Wekiwa Springs State Park Campground.
What campers like
Peaceful lakefront sites at Trimble Park: Campers appreciate the quiet setting and water access. "This is a beautiful, small campground with 15 campsites most of which are waterfront. I stayed in site 11 that was positioned so I had a magnificent view of the lake and the little gator that lived at the waters edge. I paddled my inflatable kayak around lake Carlton and the adjoining lake that has the boat ramp," explains a reviewer at Trimble Park Campground.
Wildlife viewing: Many campgrounds offer opportunities to see Florida's native animals. "We were rewarded with peaceful treks. On one such hike, we were able to spot a bobcat in pursuit of dinner, which was a delight to see firsthand," shares a camper at Lake Louisa State Park Campground.
Proximity to attractions: Camping near Winter Garden provides convenient access to Orlando's theme parks. "This was the perfect location for our touristy vacation! The Orlando Kissimmee KOA Holiday is great park to visit when staying in the Orlando area. Most shopping and restaurants are within a 5-10 minute drive. And all the tourist attractions are within 30 minutes: Walt Disney World 15 minutes, Universal Studios 23 minutes, SeaWorld 17 minutes," reports a visitor at Orlando/Kissimmee KOA.
