    Perry KOA

    Another hurricane victim

Another KOA on our trip to circumnavigate Florida. Another KOA recovering from hurricane damage. But, they do have some things open: the rv sites are open, the dog park (a nice large dog park), the hot tub. They have propane and a limited store. There are also tent sites and cabins. Lots of large live oaks with Spanish moss survived the storm as well. It is about an hour from the Suwannee River State Park where you can see Manatees in the clear waters of the spring.

    River Park RV Park

    Visiting family

We chose this park because it was close to family we were visiting.

    Pros:

    Full hookups

    Laundry mat

    Showers

    Dog park

    Close to interstate

    Cons:

    Uneven sites

    Very close together

Tiny concrete pad, very little grass

No picnic table or fire ring

If you sit outside, your just looking at the side of the RV right next to you.

Lots of fulltimers with pretty rundown sites

Overly concerned about the grass while letting the rest of the park run down

Nothing worth getting pics of here

We will try a different park when we go back.

Madison RV Resort and Golf Course

    Enjoyable, quiet and well-kept

Very nice resort. We don’t golf (this was the closest place to our grandkids!) so I can’t speak about the golf course. The RV resort is wonderful! Friendly and polite staff and neighbors. Clean laundry and bathhouse. A large dog park. My only suggestion would be to divide the park into “little dogs, big dog” sections. Big rig friendly. We would most definitely recommend this resort!

    Jennings KOA

    Good Overnight Spot

Overnighted here on the way to FL Keys.  Pulled in way after hours.  Campground was easy to navigate.  Site was a pull through and very narrow but it worked for one night.

Bonus was a large dog park right across the street.

    Love this bright cherry KOA!

I love KOA because they are consistent… And I have a membership that gives me a bit of a discount. I find they are a good value as a rule. This one was really a surprise for the area which did not look that special but the KOA was so bright and cheery and wonderful. We’ve enjoyed it. They had great pull through a dog park lots of amenities and a super great park.

Guide to Monticello

Monticello campgrounds generally sit within the gently rolling hills of North Florida at elevations between 130-200 feet. Winter temperatures typically range from 40-65°F while summer months regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity. The area's sandy soil drains quickly after rainfall, creating favorable year-round camping conditions even after brief thunderstorms.

What to do

Walking trails: Tallahassee RV Park maintains wooded paths surrounding the property. "Beautiful trails" notes Chrissie K., who visited the campground. The natural setting provides opportunities for wildlife spotting and morning exercise.

Golfing options: Madison RV Resort and Golf Course offers an on-site 9-hole course with affordable packages. "We enjoyed golfing on their 9-hole course. WiFi is better than normal for this sized CG and we got two bars on Verizon," according to MickandKarla W. Golf carts are included with certain stay packages.

Water activities: At Reed Bingham State Park Campground, campers can access multiple water recreation options. "Wonderful shady spot. Pull thru. Plenty of room on all sides. Very clean restrooms and laundry. Nice beach to walk to," writes Lauren W. The 375-acre lake accommodates fishing, swimming at designated beaches, and paddling.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Tallahassee RV Park receives praise for its generous camping spaces. "Very pretty RV park. Level gravel sites and roads. WiFi, cable, full hookups. Lots of trees and shade. Nice area to walk dogs. Will stay again," says Bill B. The pull-through sites accommodate larger rigs without difficulty.

Easy highway access: A Stone's Throw RV Park sits directly off Interstate 10, making it convenient for travelers. "This RV park is right off I-10 making it great for overnighters. All the sites are pull-through making late arrival less stressful," writes David A. The proximity allows quick setup for those arriving after dark.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained amenities at campgrounds near Monticello. "Very clean park that can accommodate big rigs. We found it to be pretty spacious and the pull through are awesome," notes Alyssa S. about Tallahassee RV Park. Most established campgrounds provide regularly serviced bathhouses and common areas.

What you should know

Weather impacts: Summer heat requires planning for shade and cooling. Monticello temperatures regularly exceed 90°F between June and September with high humidity. Evening temperatures typically remain above 70°F during peak summer months.

Seasonal pricing fluctuations: Rates increase significantly during football seasons and local events. "Was about double the nightly rate ($90!!!!) due to a FSU football game over the weekend but the place was only about 25% of capacity," reports Bob W. about his Tallahassee RV Park stay.

Train noise considerations: Reed Bingham State Park Campground and other regional campgrounds have railroad tracks nearby. "Trains didn't run every day, but when they did, they have been during daylight hours. Otherwise, this was a quiet park considering its size," explains MickandKarla W. Most campers report the noise isn't disruptive when using air conditioning or fans.

Tips for camping with families

Adventure activities: Ragan Family Campground offers numerous child-friendly attractions. "This place is awesome. A kids dream. Water park, lazy river, a park, fishing, and family activities. 10/10. Will be back," reports Brandi M. The campground schedules regular organized activities throughout peak seasons.

Playgrounds and recreation: Reed Bingham State Park includes multiple outdoor play areas. "They also enjoyed the playground, climbing tree and mini-golf nearby. We went on some short hikes in the park," writes Christy C. The park maintains seven multi-use trails under one mile each.

Camping education: Several dog friendly campgrounds near Monticello offer junior ranger programs during summer months. Rangers frequently conduct wildlife talks focusing on local species like gopher tortoises and birds. These programs typically run 30-45 minutes and are suitable for children ages 5-12.

Tips from RVers

Arrival timing: A Stones Throw Lamont, Florida accommodates late check-ins. "We do not like traveling far off our route to stop for the night. We also prefer to pay for FHU and this was $42 for us with military discount. This park is literally 1/4 mile off of I-10," explains andrew. Most campgrounds provide after-hours check-in procedures.

Space considerations: Campground layouts vary significantly across the region. "Only place to park it was in the site next to us that was already utilized but it was a van type camper. Not sure where we would have parked if it had been filled with a regular sized RV," notes Douglas T. about parking challenges for larger rigs at A Stones Throw.

Hookup options: Full-service sites remain available year-round at most pet-friendly Monticello campgrounds. Water pressure typically ranges from 40-60 PSI, and electrical service includes 30/50 amp connections at most established sites. Sewer connections may require longer hoses at some locations.
