Best RV Parks & Resorts near Islamorada, Village of Islands, FL

Several RV parks serve the Islamorada area of the Florida Keys, with options varying by size and amenity levels. Encore Fiesta Key RV Resort on Long Key offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections year-round. The gravel sites accommodate big rigs, though spaces are positioned relatively close together. Nearby, Jolly Roger RV Resort in Marathon provides 162 full-hookup sites with both 50-amp and 30-amp electrical options on level pads that support larger motorhomes. Blue Fin Rock Harbor Marina & RV Park in Key Largo features full hookup sites with 50-amp service in a waterfront setting that allows boat-in access for RVers with vessels. "Overall this is a great park to camp. RV spots are quite long and have decent amount of space on the side. Perfect for those huge toy haulers with pop out patios."

Advance reservations are essential throughout the Keys, particularly during winter months when northern travelers migrate south. Most parks maintain waiting lists during peak season from December through April, with limited availability for last-minute arrivals. Sites with water views command premium prices, often double the rate of standard interior spots. Cell service varies between 1-4 bars depending on location and carrier, with Verizon typically providing the most reliable coverage. Many parks restrict certain dog breeds and limit pets to two per site. Dump stations are available at most facilities, though some smaller parks like Jolly Roger lack this amenity. According to one visitor, "The grounds are secure and it was easy to check in and out," though another noted that "If the staff makes an error with dates of your visit and the owners show up to stay at their site, you will need to pack up."

    Curry Hammock State Park Campground

Small, Clean, Privacy AND Some Views

Curry Hammock, Marathon, FL: Our favorite of the state parks in the Keys. (Though, I do hear that the new section at Bahia is spectacular.). Here, cleanliness, views and privacy are great.
    (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

(70 yr olds in 17’ trailer. Our rating of a campground is influenced by the following: The general ambiance- sort of wilderness feel the campground gives us. A selection of campsites which offer some visual privacy and/or a view from sites. Cleanliness of whatever facilities are offered is important and usually noted in my review.

Overall Rating: 4.25 because of nice ocean views from some sites and vegetative barrier between most sites.
Price 2023: $36 in 2023 Security: Two gates w code for entry Usage during visit: Site Privacy: Most sites are pretty good. (Site 10 picnic area is the least private of all. See below.
Site Spacing: Close Site surface: Paved Reservations: Yes . Competitive . Campground Noise: Quiet Road Noise: Well off the highway. Through Traffic in campground: None Electric Hookup: Yes Sewer Hookup: Yes Dump Station: Yes Potable Water Available: At site Bathroom: Much pride must be taken in their cleanliness! Superb

    • Showers: Clean. Hot water heater must be some distance. Be patient.m as hot water is coming. Pull Throughs: None Cell Service (AT&T): Varies from 1 to 3 bars. Setting: Along the shore with lots of low growing plants between sites. Recent Weather: Rain, wind and more of each. Unusual for this time of year. Solar: Yes Host: Two for this 28 site campground is pretty nice. They do a good job as this is such a clean campground all the way around. Rig Size: Probably all sites can handle a big rig. Sites: Ocean Side and most have a nice view of the ocean : 9,11,13,15,16,17, 19,21,22. Views are not always available from chairs or the picnic table due to low growing vegetation . Also, apparently these sites have a nice cooling breeze in the summer. Our view in # 11 had a great view. #1 is not super private due to line of site to the bathhouse. #10 is the least private picnic area of all. Most sites have nice vegetation in between. 10,12,14,18,20: Some or all of these sites can see the ocean from the front window of their RV.

Long Pine Key Campground — Everglades National Park

    Long Key Campground serenity

Beautifully manicured park with blacktop pads spaced far enough apart for a fair amount of privacy. Beautiful scenery, great bird watching, lots of stars visible at night. Good Verizon cell service.

Be aware that the pads are small. Only a few sites will fit a large RV and you will have to park you car in overflow parking if the sites are full. Our 35’ class A fit nicely and we were able to park our tow vehicle in an adjacent site since the park was only about half full but we wouldn’t be able to do that during peak season.

    Larry & Penny Thompson Park

Quiet and Peaceful Campground, trees, greenery and option for long term

This is a very nice campground which is part of the Miami-Dade County park system.  It is close to the Encore Everglades park (about 4 miles) so we stayed here after we departed.  The campground is divided into pods and each pod has about 15 or so sites.  We were in pod 4 site 20 (420 lol).  We booked this camp with the intent to stay for a month or longer as my husband had an opportunity to Captain boats in Miami.

The park was very quiet.  Most of the campers were retirees, a few families with kids, but we were there in early January.  The grounds are nicely maintained with lots of places to walk and open space with trees.  They don't allow dogs off-leash and although it is adjacent to the rest of the Larry & Penny park, dogs are not even allowed in the main park, at all.  We did however find a few dog parks within four miles or so which were nice.

They have a very nice pool which was open daily Wed- Sunday 11am - 5pm.  It was raining and rather dreary during our stay so we didn't use the pool.  They have a nice Clubhouse and it looked okay with tables, chairs, books, puzzles, but again very quiet.  Not many activities except for a few and we didn't stay long enough to participate.  After a week, we decided to make moves back home to Lake Tahoe.  It was unseasonably cold, raining so no boat work and not an ideal spot for the dogs.  They don't have WiFi and since we were planning a longer stay, purchased the Starlink system since I work remote during the winter.  Starlink worked great, but costs $500+ to get started and then $120 or so a month.  If you are looking for an affordable long term/monthly stay, it is great.  The rates were $850 a month for full hook-ups.  They had last minute space available, too.

If you are in the area, check out the Miami Zoo.  We were there when they had the "Zoo Lights" a super fun evening event.  They have other events at the Zoo and lots to do nearby.  You are closer to town than Everglades Encore, but still close to the agricultural area.  I recommend but not as fun or as many activities as some other places.

    Encore Sunshine Key

    Great for families

Overall this is a great park to camp. RV spots are quite long and have decent amount of space on the side. Perfect for those huge toy haulers with pop out patios. Full hookups with 50/30/15 amp availability at all sites. Gravel spots to park your RV in and most sites are pull through. They have several activities going on throughout the week for both children and adults. Have a pool but no hot tub. Make sure you get to the pool early though as it closes at sunset. They do have a beach and place to dock your boat. No general store on site but there is a gas station that is about 50 feet from the main entrance. They have all the RV essentials that one would need.

    Southern Comfort RV Resort

    Best Park in Florida City

This park is located right off Route 1 in Florida City. For the area this is a large park. I believe over 150 sites. The sites are decent in size. The park fills up quickly come the winter time with the “ Snow Birds” but the park overall is wonderful. There is a bar/Tiki Hut on premise and a big swimming pool open year round. This is a pet friendly park but with a breed and size restriction, so call ahead if you have Fido with you.

Flamingo Campground — Everglades National Park

    Open Oarklike Concessionaire Run

Flamingo in the Everglades: Open parklike with new and what are the absolute largest of campsite signs I have seen in 5 years of traveling. No excuse to be in the wrong site at Flamingo! I had to laugh and wonder that if they are that big, blind drivers must be frequenting Flamingo. On a serious note, the brand new visitor center is a 5 star. Spending time there will not be regretted,. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

Long Pine Key Campground — Everglades National Park

Private Sites, Beware of Poisonous Snakes

Long Pine : Sites are more private here than the one other Everglades established campground (Flamingo). More trails here. Flamingo is closer to water activities. We saw a rattlesnake this trip. Previously, we had a water moccasin under our trailer I figure having been disoriented during a torrential downpour. (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good

A selection of campsites which offer some visual privacy and/or view from sites. Cleanliness of whatever facilities are offered is important and usually noted in my review.

Overall Rating: 3.5. Lower rating than the camping experience deserves. Reasons:? Poor cleanliness of facilities as is often my experience in concessionaire run campgrounds. The interagency pass only attains a 10% discount. Our stay and other retirees I have spoken with limit our stays. Note the campground was only full on weekdays! Price 2023: $ 34 w interagency pass Usage during visit: 1/2 to 3/4 mostly Site Privacy: Low growing shrubs give great privacy between most all RV sites Site Spacing: Good Site surface: Grass Reservations: Yes Campground Noise: Inner loop roads are short with limited # of spaces in each. Encore Sunshine Key

My favorite part of the keys

There's only good to say about Sunshine Key RV resort. It's absolute paradise in the keys. Somewhat secluded and surrounded by nature and the ocean. The water isn't too deep surrounding the key which means beautiful blue warm water year round. The sunsets and sunrises are perfect. Road noise is minimal. Comcast service available at every site for remote workers such as myself. Friendly staff and neighbors. I will definitely book Sunshine Key for 3 months next winter.

Flamingo Campground — Everglades National Park

    Better than we expected!

After some of the reviews we read here, we had some trepidation. Much of the ‘cons’ that other people experienced, we did not. We stayed in T loop since we wanted electrical hookup. This loop is designed for RVs and travel trailers, electric hookups at each site, but you needed to fill your water tanks from the spigot at the bathrooms. There is a dump station to make your deposit on the way out. Sites are all pull-thru and very level. Each site has a fire ring with grate, and a picnic table (very heavy and hard to move). There is a smattering of trees throughout, but not enough to offer much shade. There is a good amount of space between sites so you are not crammed in like sardines, which we have experienced at other National park campgrounds.

At this particular time of year, we experienced little to no bugs and there was a constant slight sea breeze which helped to make it feel a bit cooler. We were here the second week of February and it was plenty hot (80s) and humid for us northerners. The area we were in was very quiet, mostly us “older” folks. Very peaceful here at night, and a great location for stargazing since the campground has very few lights. Some previous reviews mentioned pesky vultures, we never saw any. I can’t speak to the conditions of the bathrooms in this loop as we had our own and didn’t need to visit them. Bring your bikes, fishing gear and kayaks as those seem to be the major activities here. It’s long way from major stores, so be sure to bring whatever supplies you might need. The store at the marina has some basics, but you won’t want to buy many groceries there.

Glad we went, but now that we’ve been there, probably won’t feel the need to go back, but it’s a nice place to get to at least once!

Guide to Islamorada, Village of Islands

Campers visiting Islamorada in the Florida Keys find themselves positioned along a coral archipelago with an average elevation of 4-6 feet above sea level. The subtropical climate features year-round temperatures ranging from 65°F to 85°F, with higher humidity levels during summer hurricane season. Camping options near Islamorada span from Marathon to Key Largo, with most facilities requiring advance booking 6-11 months ahead during peak winter season.

What to do

Snorkeling at Bahia Honda: Located near Encore Sunshine Key, the clear waters surrounding Bahia Honda State Park offer excellent visibility for spotting marine life. "We loved our stay here! We had a spot on the water and enjoyed a beautiful view of the water! The staff were friendly, professional, and helpful. The campground is very well kept. It is located in a great area of the keys, so it is a nice drive to Key West, or you can visit several trails close by," notes Darla.

Fishing from marina docks: Several rv sites near Islamorada offer fishing opportunities directly from their premises. "We love coming here and just walking around the water area you see tons of fish and lobsters," writes Julie M. about Fiesta Key RV Resort. Many marinas allow catch-and-release fishing without requiring a separate license when fishing from private property.

Wildlife spotting: The Florida Keys host diverse marine life visible from campground shores. "Tons of manatee hang out in the marina at the resort. You can get great pictures of them," shares Kirsten J. Many campers report seeing rays, small sharks, and tropical fish while walking the shorelines at dawn or dusk when marine activity increases.

What campers like

Waterfront access: Proximity to water ranks highest among camper preferences. At Grassy Key RV Park & Resort, "We had a water front space and the view was amazing. Very quite place and the people working there were very nice," writes Ronald C. Waterfront sites typically cost $15-30 more per night than interior spots but provide direct ocean views.

Community amenities: Shared facilities enhance the camping experience. "Great location to most of the Florida Keys. Super dog friendly and everyone seems to be loving it here. Has everything you need or want here," notes Josh W. about Fiesta Key RV Resort. Many campgrounds host weekly farmers markets, social gatherings, and organized activities during winter months.

Extended stay options: Longer-term arrangements appeal to winter visitors. "We decided to go east during Snow Bird season. So we have been playing ping pong through out in the keys. Fiesta Key Resort is a very nice resort, we were going to be here for 2 nights and extended to 6," shares Diana R. Monthly rates typically offer 30-40% savings compared to daily rates, with discounts deepening for multi-month commitments.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Securing spots requires significant advance planning. At Rustic RV, "We attempted to make reservations here 11 months in advance (as soon as they opened up) and were shut out. Lucky for us, we checked on a whim two days before our stay and there was a cancellation for an oceanfront site," explains Lee D. Last-minute cancellations occasionally create openings, so persistent checking can yield results.

Site specifications: Campground layouts vary considerably between properties. "The sites are gravel spots to park your RV in and most sites are pull through. They have several activities going on throughout the week for both children and adults," notes Jonathan R. Interior sites typically measure 30-35 feet in length, while premium waterfront spots may extend to 40-45 feet to accommodate larger rigs.

Pest awareness: Tiny biting insects present challenges in certain seasons. "No seeums were too bad for normal screens so I used my mountain tent with finer mesh screens. No breeze could penetrate so I suffered all night in the heat," warns John H. Mesh screens smaller than 20 gauge provide better protection, and campers often bring portable fans for circulation within tents or screen rooms.

Tips for camping with families

Pool facilities: When beach conditions aren't ideal, pools provide reliable alternatives. At Jolly Roger RV Resort, "The pool can get busy and a little loud but nothing crazy where it makes you want to leave," notes Shanner K. Most park pools close at sunset rather than maintaining evening hours, so plan water activities accordingly.

Activity schedules: Many resorts maintain regular social calendars. "We loved Fiesta Key! Some of our favorite parts of this resort were the weekly farmers market, the Easter egg hunt on Easter, the restaurant, snorkeling from the shore, and the how they pickup your trash for you right at your site," shares These Roads L. Family-oriented events typically cluster on weekends and during holiday periods.

Safety considerations: Campground layouts affect family dynamics. "Our stay at Jolly Roger RV Resort was for Labor Day Weekend. We were lucky enough to get campsite number 150 and we were about 1 min walk to the water and pier area," notes Ilena R. Sites farther from water access points offer better child safety but require longer walks to beaches and docks.

Tips from RVers

Site selection priorities: Experienced RVers emphasize location over amenities. At The Boardwalk RV And Mobile Home Resort, "The lots are huge and clean," reports Derick B. Corner sites typically offer 10-15% more space than interior spots, though they often come with higher exposure to passing traffic.

Utility reliability: Water and electrical service quality varies between parks. "All our hookups were perfect," reports Glenn F. about Fiesta Key RV Resort. Power fluctuations occur most commonly during afternoon thunderstorms, so surge protectors are recommended during summer months when afternoon storms are frequent.

Access considerations: Entrance configurations create challenges for larger rigs. "The entrance is a little hidden and tight but doable. We were towing a 36' travel trailer," explains Mike M. Most parks can accommodate up to 45-foot motorhomes, though sites accommodating both the tow vehicle and trailer may be limited at smaller facilities.
