    Live Oak Landing

    Nice resort RV park

$60 per night. Don't usually stay at resort parks but not much else available last minute. Nice level pads with some space but no privacy or shade. Interspersed with cute cottages. Great bathhouse. Recreation room, boat launch, canoe rentals, laundry. They pick up your bagged trash and will deliver wood. Picnic table, fire pit, grill. Dog park onsite.

    Live Oak Landing

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, but still conveineant

This campground is off the beaten path near Destin (about a 30 minute drive), but is still very convenient.  It's got all the amenities and then some. Cabin rental, ice, pool, fishing, boat dock, clean bathrooms, playground, etc.  There is a nice gas station/small store just up the road too.  It's on a dead end road, so there is little traffic.  Even saw a couple of small gators by the boat dock! Very nice place, would stay there again!

    Grayton Beach State Park Campground

Best destination on the emerald coast!

Great site and beautiful lake view on site 16. Access to the beach was a bonus (most public beach access are closed due to covid19). They have convenient kayak and paddle board rentals at the beach access for the lake. They also have a great nature trail that offers wonderful views of the sand dunes. Very close to seaside and some great restaurants if you don’t feel like cooking. Site had a picnic table and metal fire ring with flip over grill surface for cooking. They sold ice and firewood at the entrance (locked after office closes for the night). Book early and check site availability often this place stays pretty busy. Bathrooms were clean and serviceable.

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground

    One of the best.

Great campground with full hookups! Longer hike to the beach than Henderson State Park but everyone seemed to have adapted with beach cart trailers behind their bikes. Beach tram runs when not on COVID shut down. Some sites are close together but the south loop sites had more privacy. Great biking in the park and along 30A. Also has many nice cabin rentals. Beach is absolutely beautiful!

    Grayton Beach State Park Campground

SO happy we chose a cabin!

So, we are usually tent campers but on this night we decided to try a cabin rental and we were SO happy with the decision. The tent sites had little shade and I think it would have been very hot in the summer sun! The campsites looked to be pretty private which was nice to note. The beach was wonderful- a very enjoyable place to spend time :)

    Beautiful well kept state park

Amazing state park on the water. The campground is modern with nice clean bathrooms, laundry machines, vending machines, park store with cart rentals and other items. The spaces are close together but great. Nice level gravel pads, full hookups including sewer, and most have fire pits and picnic table.

    Southern Hospitality at its Best!

Staff: once again the entire staff is a living definition of southern hospitality. The moment you step on the property you are greeted with staff that actually want to be there, everyone from office, store, clubhouse and maintenance. They do an amazing job at setting a welcoming and accommodating atmosphere for all patrons. 5 STARS! Accommodations: Grounds: well maintained and clean; Pool Area: Clean and pool is HEATED. Cabins: clean and have a pinterest beach vibe! Pet Area: clean, double gated, lighted with bench poo bags supplied! Pet friendly. Pier and beach area very clean with swings and super comfortable lounge chairs to soak up all the sun and breeze. Pier is great for fishing and benches along the pier provide a great way to view sunrise and sunset. Club house: during our stay they hosted an amazing THANKSGIVING dinner and a paint night; also features a large screen tv and seating areas for those occasional rainy days. On the weekends they have breakfast on the grill, best breakfast I've had in a long time(shout out to the cook and staff:) Playground area is lighted with a box of sand toys and various other toys to keep the kidos busy. Atmosphere: There is NO OTHER campground in the area that beats the atmosphere at this campground. The staff and the care they take to make sure everyone's experience is the best is hands down the best in this area. I honestly can't think of one thing that would have made our stay more enjoyable. This is the second time I've stayed here.

    Henderson Beach State Park Campground

Quiet and secluded for the beach

My family and I stayed here for one night in July 2020 as our midway point from GA to Texas. We stayed in site 44 and it was private and near the bathrooms. All the sites had gravel, a picnic table, and and a fire pit as well as a clothesline. There’s a path to the beach from the bathhouse. The bathhouse was very clean and there were men and women restrooms as well as private bathroom/showers.

We fit 2 tents at our site. It was so humid and muggy I cowboy camped on the gravel with my picnic blanket and sleeping pad. Everyone else slept in the tents without the rain fly’s for some ventilation. It was a nice, clean, and quiet park and we felt very secluded in our site. There was WiFi and cell service (2 bars for Verizon).

Each site has electric and water. There’s a dump station near the entrance/exit of the park. Overall, lovely experience and I would definitely stay here again.

Guide to Freeport

Cabin accommodations near Freeport, Florida offer access to freshwater springs, coastal dunes, and pine forests with moderate humidity typical of the Florida Panhandle. Average summer temperatures reach 90°F while winter lows rarely drop below 40°F, creating nearly year-round camping opportunities. Most cabin sites feature paved or concrete pads for level placement.

What to do

Freshwater diving and water activities: Vortex Spring provides cabin accommodations alongside natural springs for diving. "I've been here a couple of times for diving and hanging out with friends this place was great. They have rooms available, cabins available, RV spots, and areas to set up a tent," notes one visitor to Vortex Spring.

Beach access at preserved coastlines: Henderson Beach State Park offers cabin options with access to undeveloped beaches. A camper describes the experience: "You are in the middle of Destin but this place is gorgeous and quiet. The sites are luscious and private. Walking path to a beautiful beach. Very clean." Henderson Beach State Park Campground provides cabins with natural buffer zones between sites.

Fishing from dedicated piers: Twin Lakes Camp Resort features cabins near fishing docks on two lakes. "Surrounded by 2 lakes this is a nice clean camp ground. Beautiful scenery, nice & helpful people, great location," explains a visitor. Many cabins include lake views with access to fish directly from wooden piers.

What campers like

Private cabin sites: Campers consistently mention privacy between cabin sites at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground. One visitor explains, "We were at one of the few 'tent' campsites in the park. Our site was back off the road in the brush - very private even with a trail just on the other side of the bushes." The park also offers cabin options with similar privacy features.

Quality bathroom facilities: Unlike many camping locations, cabin rentals near Freeport often include premium bathroom amenities. A camper at Twin Lakes Camp Resort states, "They have, likely, the nicest shower rooms you'll encounter on the rv trail." Most cabin sites feature nearby bathhouses with individual shower rooms.

Proximity to both nature and conveniences: Live Oak Landing strikes a balance between seclusion and access. "Tucked away from the hustle and bustle, but still conveineant. This campground is off the beaten path near Destin (about a 30 minute drive), but is still very convenient. It's got all the amenities and then some," reports a camper.

What you should know

Advance reservation requirements: During peak seasons (March-August), cabin reservations near Freeport should be made 6-12 months in advance. A camper at Henderson Beach explains, "Book well in advance it's very popular!"

Variable cabin amenities: Cabin facilities differ significantly between sites. Some include full kitchens while others offer only basic shelter. Check specific amenity lists when booking.

Beach tram services: At some larger properties like St. Andrews State Park Campground, cabins may be set back from beaches. "Either ride your bike or take the tram the mile to the boardwalk and beach," advises one Topsail Hill visitor. These services typically run hourly during daylight.

Limited cell service: While most cabin sites have reliable coverage, signal strength varies. A camper at Camp On The Gulf reports, "T Mobile is 4 bars," but other carriers may have weaker signals in more remote locations.

Tips for camping with families

Secure cabin sites: For families with small children, choose cabins in established loops. Henderson Beach offers family-friendly options as one visitor explains: "This is one of our favorite places. The sites are huge and shaded. The campgrounds are clean. You can walk to one of the best beaches in the United States."

Kid-friendly activities: Camp On The Gulf offers structured children's programs at their cabin sites. "The week we were there they had a different activity for the kids each day. They had painting sand dollars, bubba the alligator show, face painting and even an Easter egg hunt," notes a visitor. These programs typically run daily during summer months.

Protected swimming areas: For safer swimming with children, select cabins near protected waters. "A small area located inside rock jetties provides the perfect area for amateur and intermediate snorkeling," explains a visitor at St. Andrews State Park. These areas offer calmer conditions than open Gulf waters.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Many cabin sites feature resident wildlife. Live Oak Landing provides wildlife education opportunities as "Even saw a couple of small gators by the boat dock!" reports one camper. Morning and evening offer best viewing times.

Tips from RVers

Electrical capacity: For RVers using cabin sites with electrical hookups, check amperage availability. A visitor at Topsail Hill notes, "There is a potable water faucet and a two plug 30 amp electrical outlet at each site."

Site dimensions: Cabin and RV sites near Freeport vary significantly in size. At Camp On The Gulf, a visitor warns, "Parking your rig is TIGHT. Like super tight." Request specific dimensions when booking to ensure adequate space.

Weather considerations: Florida weather affects cabin camping experiences. A St. Andrews visitor recommends preparing for storms: "I was here for the snow fall. The electric hook up was a saving grace. Now this is in the flight path of Eglin AFB." Cabins provide better protection than tents during seasonal storms.
