Best Campgrounds near Punta Gorda, FL

My experience was great with my pup! Primitive sites were $20 a night at time of writing.

We stayed in a primitive site(p14) with water. I was excited to discover all these primitive wites with water are right on the lake.

There’s no alcohol allowed which is a double edged sword, but I welcomed this rule as there always seems to be groups partying at public campsites. Not here.

Bathrooms are typical campsite bathroom. They have showers too for campers.

It’s a dirt road campsite, but they have water trucks that spray a few times a day to keep the dust down. So thankful for that!

RV pull sites and promote. campsites are far enough away from each other.

Nearest major grocery store is wal-mart about 15 minutes away.

Only iffy thing I’d call out is how tight the primitive campsites are to each other. It was dead when I came, but had my neighboring sites been occupied, I wouldn’t have enjoyed my time as much.

The trees and shrubs appear burned out from controlled burn or brush fire. The dead branches are still there. Sites have stones and sand. Not alot of grass or tree coverage. The park offers hiking trails and close by access for launching kayaks. This park also has a walking tour of the Korshean Settlement which was interesting. Every time we have been here there has been a burn ban so no campfires allowed. Sites are small but will work for a tent or smaller camper. Ours is 32’ and it is really tight for the site. Staff is super friendly. Sites fill up quickly especially on the weekend.

It’s a quiet campground with the Okeechobee waterway flowing right next to it. It’s located at the Loch and Dam so we have watched several boats. Large sites, very large sites. Clean restrooms, nice staff, basically like we always find at COE.

We stayed here for 3 days prior to the IMSA race at Sebring this year.  wonderful Campground, well Kept, and very crowded.  Resort style pool with a restaurant and bar,  2 level gym with all the equipment you could hope for, and lots of activities for the residents.    Lots of restaurants and shopping just down the street.

we will be back again.

Roads are narrow back by the campground site if you're in a big rig. Sites are also a little overgrown with shrubbery. The restrooms were clean. Some road noise. This campground has some history to it, which is pretty cool.

This is my first time camping in my RV anywhere. I should have suspected that an RV resort in FL in the winter would be full of retirees, but I didn't expect the number of mobile homes permanently here. At my site, when looking outside, I had a great view of the lake, am surrounded by mobile homes, and can see only one RV. Great laundry facilities and front office staff are wonderful. Flexible pricing with many discounts. Club house and swimming pool is like being in a retirement resort. There are some nice sites, and all are full hookups, but in my case, I have a small lot with a mobile home, literally about 8 feet along side of me. They have a dog park, and it is shady, which is needed in the FL heat, but not very kept up and clean. Location is nice because you are right off I-75 and can be anywhere in the Greater Tampa Bay area with easy access. However, the noise of the interstate is non-stop, and traffic in this area is really congested.

We were delighted to find somewhere to camp right in Sarasota. This is on private property, the landscaping is such that most of the camp sites are positioned so there is foliage or trees that offer a quaint sense of privacy. The are also birds that offer pleasant song, a curious raccoon, various birds or cranes, and a small alligator that lives in the lake (not to be feared). The days we were there, the camp was still being fixed up from hurricane damage. As it sits it’s a bit of a diamond in the rough, but the vision is there and I look forward to coming back and seeing all the final touches. The hospitality is stellar! Also, best campground bathroom, and free laundry facility which was greatly appreciated.

We wanted to use our generator for camping to test it out, but it would not start. Had to have a RV park nearby and called, and booked a site within 10 minutes. Very pleased with the accommodations. Pool was great, neighbors were friendly and very helpful. Park was clean and orderly. Definitely would stay here again.

We got lucky to get a site here last minute after our state park campground was closed for extended period due to hurricane repairs (without letting us know so it was a scramble to find alternatives).  The campground is nice.  We stayed in an "equestrian" site and most people didn't have horses (neither did we).  While much of the park isn't shaded (in fact there is waayyyyy too much lawn/grass in all the communal areas - would be much better if they planted trees and let forest grow back), most sites do seem to have at least some trees providing partial shade. Not much privacy between sites, but that didn't really bother us.  There are lots of walking "roads" (dirt roads) to the various lakes. All in all, we were glad to have a site and would return if needed again.

Beautiful spot. We’re here for one night, moving west at a snail’s pace to open up boondocking sites.

Camp hosts were wonderful. Down to earth and friendly. Bathrooms and trash cans tended well. Springs with fossil finds! All the sites are pretty close together but unless it's crowded I didn't care. Plenty of big trees on every site for cover, and if you don't mind wandering in the woods, there's lots of potential to gather firewood. They do offer bundles of cut/dried for a reasonable price.

I’m a tent camper and this place was almost perfect. The staff are excellent. On site store has almost everything you need. Security good. Clean bathrooms/showers. Very clean sites (too clean, I couldn’t even find any firewood). There’s a nice loop walking trail in the forest (partial boardwalk). The river is lovely with all the birds and fish (also many alligators). I won’t comment on the RV sites as they look pretty standard out in an open big field. But the more primitive riverside sites are perfect. Lots of fishing and canoe/kayak (and bicycle) rentals available. I came on a weekday in Feb and was fortunate to have only one neighbor but I understand this place gets packed on the weekends. The only negative thing I would say is the nearby highway noise. It is busy and loud even during the nights. If that doesn’t bother you, I very much recommend Fisheating campground.

The resort was nice, clean and quiet. Many amenities including pickleball. Good communication and a very secure park. The people staying there were very nice. In

Winter Quarters Manatee is a beautiful resort with a lot of activities and amenities (which include 2 heated pools and a spa). The staff have been great and the clubhouse is beautiful. Very close to beaches, Anna Marie Island, Sarasota, and Tampa. The only downside is that you are close to I75, and there is construction currently underway.

Love this place. Love the woods , always see critters along the creek. Campsites are clean and bathhouse is cleaned daily. Great hiking, fishing, bird watching or just chillaxin. Staff is always helpful. Been here many times and will definitely be back!
